  1. Thank you to all three of you for you insite and honestly. I wish I had thought to ask a these questions a year ago. I think it would be great to have this posted somewhere in a newbie section. I'm sure many people could add to it, i.e. good gluten-free foods, viatmins, make-up, etc.
  2. I just got a coupon to try the new Degree Clinical Strength. I believe there is also a Secret formula as well. Anyone tried it? I'm worried about irritation but, with the very hot North Carolina summer approaching I know I will need it!
  3. I'll just chime in here. I take a subligual I bought at Trader Joe's, I like it although RiceGuy said to take the "methylcobalamin" version instead of the cynanocobalamin, which this one is. I'm feeling better but, I looked-up on the web, and of the two types and the metho. seems to be absorbed better. All I know is I feel good and Trader Joe's is on my regular...
  4. Well, as for fatty foods. I tend to gain weight with any kind of gluten-free carbohydrate food. (i.e. Wyldes pretzels, Pamela's cookies, gluten-free pantry mixes for cakes, cookies, etc., Trader Joe's brownie mix, Kinnikink pizza crusts) I know a lot of other folks will chime in here-everyone is different but carbs-even gluten-free ones-are my downfall! ...
  5. I'm trying the oil pulling and it seems to be helping OR I'm imagining it is! I am 44 and it seems like my teeth are starting to fall apart. I just had tooth replaced-only $2500 and it was considered cosmetic! Never mind the fact I couldn't chew on one side for 9 months. I don't have pitting except on my back molars but, I'm sure they look bad too!
  6. Do a search with Chicago as the engine, there are a lot of great gluten-free restaurants there! Underneath the red words there is a My Controls; View New posts and then My Assistant. Click on my assistant and then click the tab for search, fill in the box with Chicago or Chicago restaurants. I'm giving these exact directions because someone told me...
  7. I had the dark circles under my eyes, allergy eyes, and now I don't. My skin is not as dry; you could sand wood with my feet! My eyes became less red looking (irritating make-up) and my tongue actually started to look pink, not patchy and bumpy. I used to get a lot of sores in my mouth and my teeth chipped easily, neither has happened in a long time. I...
  8. Welcome to the board!! You will learn a lot, there are some very smart/savvy people here to bounce your theories off. I am also self diagnosed but, I was negative on my blood panel-of course I hadn't had gluten for a month prior so.... I think the best test is how you yourself feel. I could not believe the other things that cleared-up after being off...
  9. I wan't to post this in the kid's forum, even though I'm 44, I love boxed Mac N Cheese. The Trader Joe's Mac is just as good as the Amy's Mac and it only costs $1.88, here in Charlotte!! I "doctored" it up with tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. and My non-celiac 12 yr. old thought it was awesome.
  10. Started oil pulling today-with olive oil. I also have coconut and sesame so, I'll switch up. If it helps me with my teeth I am all for it! I had started another thread on stained teeth and one of the posters sent me here, so glad she did. I am currently having a lot of dental work done and it is really breaking the bank.
  11. I had my teeth cleaned three weeks ago and they did an awesome job. The hygenist used some kind of sand-blasting technique and my teeth, especially the bottom ones, never looked better. Now they are getting stained again. Is this another fun aspect of celiac? Come on, they are already chipped and pitted!
  12. This is a big subject around here, and I am not knowledable enough to address it. However, I am sensitive to items touching my skin. I changed shampoo's, no sodium laurel sulfate, Trader Joe's is cheap and good. I use gluten-free make-up Everyday Minerals, see thread on this site, as well as Great Lash Mascara and Maybelline eye liner. What I would do...
  13. Thanks for all the info. I never thought of just getting a charm before. By the way, I wear several bracelets on one side-a Brighton bracelet watch, a Pandora, and another thin Tiffany. I don't think they are gaudy, since they are all from the same silver/gold color scheme and they are not the hanging charm kind. If you had one haning charm bracelet and the...
  14. Thank you for posting that ,I truly appreciate the link. I learned from it and you never know who you may help by posting. I have the tingling in my arms and I possible have a B-12 deficiancy. I take b-12 vitamins but, I guess that is not enough. Maybe the sublingual?
  15. Where did you get the bracelet? Also, are you will to share your card with us? I would love to have something in my wallet. I also put celiac on my phone. I was taught by a paramedic that they are looking for the word ICE on most cell phones now. ICE should be your home# and the list any notations that you want emergency worker's to have.
  16. I subscribe to Mary Hunt's Everyday Cheapskate newsletter and she had this idea for left over rice. I had never seen it b-4 and it looked like a good idea. ( you would need to gluten-free the soy but...) Cooked rice Turn that rice into a wonderful quiche crust. Mix together 2 cups white or brown leftover cooked rice, one beaten egg and one teaspoon...
  17. Don't know if this will help you or not but, there is a fun site called Lame Advertisement. You just put in the area you are going to and get restaurant review for the area. They are not a gluten-free site, I have written to convince them to do this, but several of my reviews have gluten-free information on them. Their are also some yelpers that are following...
  18. I too had the "shedding" problem b-4 going gluten-free. After being gluten-free for at 8 months-give it some time, I really started to feel better and started to notice that my scalp felt tight and itchy. I determined I had a problem with Sodium Lauryl Sufate-it is in a lot of Shampoo's. Does your scalp feel tight or itchy? It might be the SLS-the best...
  19. *Just one note* When you find it, buy several cans of it. I had no trouble finding it around Thanksgiving (green bean casserole) but none of our store's have it right now. I finally found a few cans of Progresso hidden on the back of the shelf and I bought them all!
  20. Eric- Zatarains what? The only thing I know of is rice. Do they have a seasoning too?
  21. I was getting extreme night sweats and self-diagnosed myself into thinking I had peri-menopause. I really just need to go gluten-free and after I did my sweats cleared-up. However, I tried Pro-gest for several months and it really seemed to help. You rub it on your breasts and stomach, so I would check to see if it is gluten-free. I don't want to start...
  22. I actually thought I was pre-menopausal because of this. I used to wake-up during the night and have to change my bedclothes. They were soaking wet! I have not had that happen to me in over a year. I'm not sure if it is because of celiac but, I hope the same happens for you when you are gluten-free for a while.
  23. Okay, caek_is_a_lie, you seem to really know your stuff! Any blond or highlighting ideas? Thanks
  24. Thanks for the info. I never saw any prices so, I'm glad to know they are a higher ticket item before I inquire further.
  25. Thank you David, I put it in my reference 3 ring binder. (yes, I am the nerd who has this-I have each section tabbed and keep it in my car trunk.)
