  1. Hi megg! I just wanted to say, I totally understand how you feel! I'm pretty new to all this, and just as I start thinking I've got a handle on the diet, I mess up somehow! I got tired of chicken and rice really quick, so I went looking for recipe books to help. I ended up purchasing "You Won't Believe It's Gluten Free...
  2. One word. EASY. I'm fairly new to the gluten free way of life, I work full time, and I have an active teenager that can't drive yet........so time is a bit limited for me. Dinner recipes that are minimal ingredients, are quick to throw together and aren't chicken and rice would be something I would be interested in! Can't think of any tips for you...
  3. I can't say that I've ever had a localized reaction from any foods (knocking on wood) but rather an upset stomach. Ragweed does bother me, but not to the extent that it bothers some. I get dry, grainy, itchy eyes, and lots of sneezing and congestion. But like I said, I know others have it way worse than me. So yes, I will be talking to my doc about this...
  4. Interesting! This is likely why raw bananas (in any form - by themselves, in a smoothie) upset my stomach so badly, but if they've been baked into something they're fine. There are a few other foods that are like this with me, but I can't think of them ATM. Guess I should discuss this with my doctor, huh?
  5. Just wanted to chime back in and say that I'm currently using Dove shampoo and conditioner, and while it doesn't contain the vit E or the hydrolized wheat protein, it does have sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) in it, which bothers my skin........it may not bother you, though. The castille soap works great as a shampoo, but leaves my hair feeling almost too...
  6. I get these too, as well as an incredibly itchy scalp. I'm still searching for the "right" hair products for me. But I agree with KristaleeJane - I think it's from hidden Vit E.
  7. Janet, thanks for chiming in. I just read the link you posted, and that certainly sounds like the reaction I had after the banana bread. I hadn't considered sugars being a problem, as I've also been eating some granola bars that I made that contain chocolate chips and corn syrup. I've had no problem with those at all as far as I can tell. I really, really...
  8. These waffles DO contain soy. But I don't think that's the culprit in my case. Ingredients: Brown rice flour, water, potato starch, rice flour, canola oil, pineapple juice concentrate, peach juice concentrate, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, monocalcium phosphate), pear juice concentrate, salt, soy lecithin, defatted soy flour, guar...
  9. Interesting you mention not feeling well after eating them.........I'm not feeling so good either. It almost feels like I'm coming down off a sugar high (a little shaky, muscles feel weak), and I'm suddenly really sleepy. Think I'm gonna go take a nap. How did they make you feel?
  10. I was tickled pink that I found Van's waffles on sale at a local grocery, so I bought two boxes. I ate them for the first time today. They seemed really dry and crumbly. I'm sad, because so many people rave about these. I don't have a toaster presently (haven't replaced it yet) so I followed the instructions on the box to heat them in the oven...
  11. Walt, I have this book, and as a brand new Celiac I have to say I love it (even more than the Bette Hagman book I bought at the same time!). I've made several of the baked goods recipes and have been very satisfied. I have not yet tried the pizza dough one you made. HOWEVER - keep in mind that if the recipe has baking soda in it, and calls for...
  12. Carla, I hope you hear from them soon! I know Bolivar Peninsula got hit really hard, but they're still trying to assess the damage. Saying a little prayer that you hear from your family soon and that they are safe and dry.
  13. Carla, I'm not Jess, nor am I in Houston (Dallas, about 5 hours away), and what I'm hearing is that there is tons of rain, high winds, millions of people with no power (hospitals on back up generators) and flooding. It's just been reported as 'still a category one'. Officials are saying that rather than calling, to send text messages. So if the people...
  14. Jess, I've been thinking about you! Please stay safe! We've been prepping for it, but it now looks like it will move more to the east of us. Be careful! (((HUGS)))
  15. LadyMac, If they are doing a biopsy to look for celiac disease, you need an endoscopy, not a colonoscopy......... Just thought I'd throw that out there. They may be looking for things like Ulcerative Colitis or Chrons (with the colo), but why not request they do both at the same time? It only takes a few minutes more, you'll only have to have the anesthesia...
  16. Hey Katsby, I just wanted to bump this up, as I'm also having issues after eating some things that I've baked myself, and yes - they contain xanthan gum. So I thought I'd bump this and see if maybe we can get some input from others.
  17. Thanks for the link! I was thinking just the other day that maybe there was aproduct out there like this, but forgot to go looking. I'll definitely check it out. I'm also glad you mentioned the possible connection of skin changes and hypothyroidism. I'll be talking to my doc about possible thyroid issues next week - sooner if I can get into my GP this...
  18. Any idea where I might find this product? Is it something you can buy at at someplace like Walgreens, or do you have to have a prescription for it? I found the website, complete with ingredients:
  19. I've started wearing gloves, but it's tough to have them on all of the time. I put them on when I'm actually doing dishes, but when using the cash register or making drinks, sometimes I'll take them off because my hands get so hot (the ones I've been wearing are non latex vinyl). But then when I go to wipe down counters or clean up the espresso machine...
  20. This may not be at all related to my diet and/or Celiac Disease, but I've recently noticed a few odd things. I've always bruised quite easily, and am commonly covered in bruises from head to toe, and often have no idea how I got them. But since I started this new job, I've noticed that my skin seems really fragile or thin. I'm constantly cutting myself...
  21. Here's what I use: Foundation: either Meow Cosmetics or Aromaleigh Cosmetics (If you Google either of these, you will find websites - don't want to risk giving you a "lame advertisement link" LOL) Blush comes from either: Meow, Aromaleigh or About Face (Google The She Space) Eyeshadow: Mainly from The She Space or Silk Naturals Mascara...
  22. Try looking into smaller mineral makeup companies. Many of them will tell you without a doubt that their products are gluten free. Lots of gals here rave about Everyday Minerals. I have a couple of products from them, but the bulk of my makeup comes from other mineral makeup companies. The downside is that you can't just walk into any store to pick...
  23. Hey there! I'm in the North Dallas area, but I know that Outback Steakhouse has a gluten-free menu, among a few other chain type restaurants. You can check the Open Original Shared Link site to see what else is listed. If you want to come up to the Plano area, there's a little place called Open Original Shared Link that serves a gluten free menu...
  24. I had issues with them as well (the white ones). But for me, I think it's whatever sweeteners they use, as I've also had issues with other brands of breath mints..........
  25. If you went gluten free and it helped, then yes, you could be looking at either gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease. I too had the grumbly stomach. I call mine 'the alien baby' because it's not only extremely loud but I can feel movement (gas in my intestines - sorry if that's TMI, but you'll get lots of that here! ). Once going gluten free (and I...
