  1. Could it be just too much sugar? That will happen to me sometimes. Directly from Torani's FAQs........
  2. They can't do them with soy? Or is it a powder and they just add water for you?
  3. I'm still not sure if what I have is DH or not, but I've done a lot of reading about it here, and from what I can tell, there are varying degrees of DH. Some people get the spots/bumps/blisters that don't itch at all. Others are extremely itchy but no spots. Others still have massive rash and extreme itching. I guess it's another one of those things that...
  4. I also have other places it seems to show up, but they aren't constant like my hands. My left wrist, alternating knees, my neck........ I do have an electric toothbrush, which seems to help, but some days I even have trouble holding on to that. I'm pretty sure mine isn't specifically gluten related, although I have only been gluten-free for about 6 weeks...
  5. I'm dealing with this as well, only in my hands and a little in my feet. I'll awake in the morning with extremely stiff fingers and toes, and my hands will be swollen just enough to make my skin feel tight. The swelling usually subsides after I get moving in the mornings, and I have not noticed any swelling in my feet. The joints in my fingers hurt all...
  6. Doesn't Starbucks use the Torani syrups? I'm pretty sure those are gluten free, although I have not checked directly with the company myself.......that stinks about the protein powder. Do they really not wash, rinse and sanitize each pitcher after use? Only rinsing? Ewww.
  7. Check, check and triple check the ingredients of the beef jerky. I picked some up at the store and started reading the ingredients, thinking "surely I can have this.........." The jerky I was looking at was seasoned with teriyaki, and sure enough, contained gluten. I checked Jack Link's, as well as a couple others (don't remember the other brands, sorry...
  8. Every. Single. Day. I was dx'd as having "a mild case of Celiac Disease", but because I carry a gene, not because of antibodies in my blood (wasn't consuming enough gluten prior to blood tests). So I keep thinking "Just one [insert glutenous whatever here]." But I've also glutened myself accidentally a few times (only been at this for about five weeks...
  9. Good to know! I need a good place to go with the hubby on 'date night'. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Thanks hermitgirl! You are totally right about the receptionist being the one who needs (or is) in the know. I will have a chat with both the receptionist, and my stylist (who also happens to be the owner of the salon) before we do anything.
  11. Zella, Thanks so much for chiming in! You've given some good advice! I was sort of thinking I'd just avoid styling products (at the salon) altogether, at least for now. Since I usually get a razor cut, I end up having to go home and either rinse my hair or completely shower anyway, to get all the bits of hair off me. LOL I'm still on the hunt for styling...
  12. Great advice, ladies! I've only been to my new stylist once, and it was right after I had my initial blood draw for all my testing, so we did talk about it some. She had told me that if a particular product didn't work out for me, then I should just bring it back and she would either exchange or refund my money........so I'm pretty sure she'll understand...
  13. So I'm way overdue for a haircut, and have been thinking about calling to set up an appointment. BUT, how do you approach your stylist about hair products that are used in the salon? Do you call them up and say "I'm bringing my own" or do you actually investigate the products that they use there in the salon? I've almost got this itchy scalp thing...
  14. I couldn't find the Bob's Red Mill packages that actually said Gluten Free on them, so I bought Open Original Shared Link instead. I used these in home made granola bars, and have not eaten them any other way (yet). They tasted pretty darn good in the granola bars, so you might give them a try.
  15. Best thing to do would be to call or email them to see if they can tell you for sure if their Vit E additive is safe. I contacted Silk Naturals personally, and they confirmed that all of their products are gluten free, even the lip sticks/glosses. Hope that helps!
  16. Jess, I'm so glad to hear you are safe! I've been worrying about ya all week! I'm glad to hear that things are returning to normal, but I'll say a little prayer that they get it done faster. It can't be a whole lot of fun living with no power for this long! I'm sorry to hear that you got sick. Once all returns to normal, you might think about...
  17. I thought malted barley was off limits on a gluten-free diet? (Not trying to be snide at all......asking because I'm doubting what I think I know! LOL)
  18. Don't do this!!! You won't be doing him any favors by being inconsistent with his diet, and eating gluten will actually do him damage. Pizza is not that hard. No it won't taste like Ci Ci's, but is Ci Ci's really all that great anyway? (The answer here in my town is a resounding NO.) I made pizza last week for the first time (from scratch) and it was really...
  19. Did you drink just the soda, or did you have a cocktail? If you had a cocktail, what was the adult beverage (alcohol) that the soda/mixer was mixed with?
  20. Yes, you can find Thai rice noodles at just about any grocery store chain (try "A Taste of Thai" brand), but I'm sure it would be more cost effective at an Asian market. RE: Mexican food - Chicken or beef quesadillas are also VERY quick and easy, if you are still eating dairy products. Grill up a few chicken breasts with your favorite gluten free seasoning...
  21. Do you know what brand of soy milk Starbucks uses? I work in a coffee shop, and we use Silk brand soy milk, which is gluten free. I'm going to guess that's what a bunch of coffee shops use, since it's readily available and a known brand. Obviously, it would be to your advantage to ask before ordering. Hope that helps! Now go have a latte!
  22. Presto, While you're at it, I'd be looking for a new doctor.
  23. Mail order only (internet based), but good stuff, a wide variety of colors and cheap. Did I mention CHEAP? Google "Silk Naturals" Or google "mineral makeup lipstick" and that should yield some good results as well.
  24. Hmmm, I wonder if it was just too much sugar, or if it was something completely different that made me feel off then? It wasn't from Starbucks, but another coffee company (the one I work for), and I have personally had my hands on the syrup products and read the labels, and didn't even see "caramel coloring" listed. (We only use Torani when we run out...
  25. I know I've read that caramel coloring is usually off limits, but what about caramel syrup? I have a new love, but I think it might be making me sick. Caramel Macchiatos (espresso, vanilla syrup, caramel syrup, and steamed milk - YUM!) I checked the ingredients on the syrups - the vanilla is ok, but the caramel says "natural caramel flavor". Ok...
