  1. It took me about a year of healing and learning how not to eat gluten by accident before I felt better. Do you have a gluten free household? We tried for months to have a mixed household. My non celiac daughter was so careful, but my celiac son and I were not able to be healthy without it. Can't you eat some fruits and vegetables? You can peel fruits...
  2. I think in some cases it would depend on where an item comes from but its also another reason to think about organic produce. Do you know that they don't use sprays and coatings with organic produce??
  3. My stupid doctor told me that my uncontrollable diarrhea causing me not to even make it the 20 feet from the kitchen to the bathroom, causing me to dump a whole load in my pants, running down my legs was consistent with IBS!!! At least she didn't give me a hard time when I diagnosed myself. She should have said that she was sorry that she hadn't tested...
  4. I tested Arrowhead Mills green lentils for gluten to about 0.5 ppm and got a negative result. They are listed as negative on their website. It looks like they are a trustworthy company. Just in case anyone needs a good lentil source.
  5. Curry powder usually contains turmeric and turmeric can cause false positive results with what I think is the most commonly used test for gluten. I ran a test with it. It turns the whole solution a dark red, and the color of the positive indicator is around that same color. That might be why that one site said it contains gluten.
  6. Would you believe my son has tortilla chips for breakfast? Good luck with figuring this all out. It can be very challenging.
  7. I got a positive with them too: Discovery Amber Ale. Again, probably below 20 ppm for the not very sensitive types.but not good for the more sensitive ones. I tasted the New Grist and I agree, it wasn't very good.
  8. I thought I'd be best off posting this here so Momma Goose won't give me flack for using the home gluten test. I decided that I should order a bunch of whole grains and grind them into flour myself. I figured there would be less of a chance of cross contamination that way. Also those bread mixes don't have much whole grain in them. My order from...
  9. Sorry, messed something up. Forgot to mention that he eats a ton of cheese without problems.
  10. My son was diagnosed at 10. Had problems at school. Hated all his teachers. Would forget everything and swear that no one ever told him. He'd forget to do his homework, forget to bring it home, do it but forget to hand it in, etc. Started the diet in December 2007, was still sick a ton until the end of the school year in June 2008 because there are so...

  12. The guy who developed the tests said that they don't pick up the gluten in soy sauce because it has been broken down into too many little pieces by hydrolysis to be able to be recognized by the test. The test is not accurate for soy sauce. It can, however, detect the presence of gluten in 99% of other foods.
  13. It is possible that your diet isn't as gluten free as you think. You could try a really basic diet of fruit, vegetables, meat and whole grain rice and quinoa for a couple of weeks and see if that helps.
  14. I just thought I would share with you all that I got a positive test for gluten with New Grist beer. It was with an EZ Gluten test from ELISA tek. The test goes to 10 ppm and the positive was a weak one. Glad I saved myself from getting glutened. Hope I save some others tool
  15. Ancient Harvest Quinoa is grown in gluten free areas and processed in a quinoa only facility.
  16. I have had success with the tests. For example, once my son got sick when we hadn't made any changes to his diet. It was a contamination issue of a gluten free food. There was no suspect ingredient in the food. It was labeled gluten free. The company stated that they test to 5 ppm. There was no warning that it was processed in shared facilities. I...
  17. I was at the GI recently and we discussed that. They said that they think that some are more sensitive than others to small amounts, but they don't know for sure. It may be that some are just more symptomatic. Maybe the sensitive people are like the canary in the coal mine. You could go crazy trying to keep every tiny bit of gluten out of your diet. ...
  18. Also, just try a small amount the first time until you know whether or not you react to them.
  19. In yoghurt the lactose is pretty much predigested and supposed to be O.K. even if you are lactose intolerant. I found probiotics really helpful for me during healing. I took BioK (dairy).
  20. Yes. I ate half a serving and I was very sick for 2 months. I don't think it was from cross contamination. If they are contaminated it isn't by more than 20 ppm since they test. It said on my package (but unfortunately I didn't pay much attention until after) that some celiacs react to even gluten free oats. There is a protein in oats that is similar...
  21. What kind of rice milk? I have read on this site that Rice Dream uses barley enzymes and although it says gluten free on the label, it contains enough gluten to bother all sorts of celiacs who come here.
  22. We need company names. Which gluten free chips? Which gluten free bread? Lundberg rice chips glutened me badly and I didn't even eat that many. I read here that they are made on facilities on which wheat containing materials are processed but it didn't say so on the package. I read that it is optional to put that on the package.
  23. I think I react to distilled vinegar too, but I'm not sure. Just when I get better, I hate to try the product again to be sure.
  24. Definitely, and even when I am up it takes me forever to accomplish anything. Hope you get better soon.
