  1. Thank you for posting this. How terrible that they can include wheat and not put it on the label.
  2. I was diagnosed with RA before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I only had to eliminate gluten and oats for it all to go away. I had to eliminate ALL gluten though and that has taken quite a lot of effort. It comes back when I get accidental gluten contamination. I had pain bad enough to make me quit ballet. Energy also comes and goes with gluten...
  3. You might see a faster recovery if you stick to naturally gluten free foods at first such as vegetables, meats and fruits. You can add gluten free foods later when she will be able to tell which ones she can tolerate. Not all are tolerated by all celiacs. You also need to watch for accidental cross contamination from the foods that you eat, gluten left...
  4. I had problems with Tinkyada, but not with Mrs. Leepers.
  5. My son and I have been having problems with Tinkyada vegetable spirals which are made in a wheat free factory premise so it shouldn't contain any gluten. When we changed to Mrs. Leeper's our problems went away. Tinkyada is made with carrot and tomato powder while Mrs. Leeper's is made with beet powder. Both use spinach powder and brown rice. We can both...
  6. I noticed that a gluten free company Savonnerie makes deodorant. I haven't used it or anything so I'm not endorsing it. I just noticed it when I was ordering their lotion.
  7. I was a gluten free vegan. I have been lactose intolerant for years. I have currently added about one tablespoon a day of cheese, so I am not quite all vegan anymore, but almost. It isn't that hard. Certainly a lot easier than being sick all the time.
  8. I found that very interesting too, especially as it seems to be accepted that if your blood test is negative, your problems are over. It looks like you can easily still have villi damage with a negative blood test.
  9. I let it rise for one hour and then it rises more while it cooks (thank goodness!)
  10. My son had the red ears too.
  11. My celiac son also ate a ton of bread before diagnosis. I don't know what God was doing giving celiac to a kids that loves to eat as much as he does. Anyways nosebleeds that went away gluten free, definitely. Since 2 years old and he was diagnosed at 10. We thought it was from nose picking. Once I was at the table with him so I saw that he wasn't picking...
  12. I buy the ancient harvest quinoa which is prerinsed.
  13. Raisin, or anyone else who has problems with Burts Bees. Do you think you had a reaction, or did you just cut it out just in case? I think it is inevitable to ingest a lot of lip balm, and I have been using Burts Bees. Maybe that's partly why I have been so sensitive to food contamination. Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the hint. I have been having the problem with my bread not rising too. Last time I mixed it for longer by chance and it did rise better. I thought it was because I added more liquid, but now I will try mixing it for longer again. I was getting tired of eating that dense bread.
  15. My teeth were always rotten. Some of them had to be filled as soon as they came in. Dentists were always bugging me about brushing. It is glad to finally have a reason for it all. My mother thought it had to do with an anti-nausea drug she took when she was pregnant with me. You should check out when they form, It might be pretty much too late.
  16. Have you been missing flavored coffees? I have recently tried making my coffee with almond and hazelnut milks and it is a lot like those flavored coffees I used to have. Quite good.
  17. Thank you Janetw. That is very helpful of you. I hope you get completely healed soon.
  18. I hadn't considered lyme disease. I do live in New York state where it is common. I have never been aware of a tick bite or gotten one of those rashes. Can people develop lyme disease without ever getting the rash? The symptoms sound a lot like celiac disease's symptoms. I didn't know that it could increase your sensitivity to small amounts of gluten...
  19. Sounds pretty sensitive to me...unless the person washing the bowl is as careful as my husband
  20. I am fairly new, having been diagnosed Nov 2007. I really wish that I had known about all this cross contamination stuff from the start. I would have started out with a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables (not meats only because I am vegetarian) and grains from organizations which only grow and process that single grain. Then I would have waited until...
  21. I had bad joint pain for about 12 years before diagnosis. After about a year on a gluten free diet it was gone. My finger joints were so swollen in the morning I had to stop wearing rings. Getting them off was a challenge even in the evening. I had ankle pain that caused me to quit dance classes. I had trouble holding my children in the morning because...
  22. Oh, I am so sorry that it seemed like I was implying otherwise! I am sure that you could teach me all sorts of things about baking!
  23. Thank you for that information. Maybe that explains some of those other food sensitivities found through elimination diets.
  24. In the book Gluten-Free 101 by Carol Fenster she talks about not using more than a third of any one gluten free flour. Someone in my local support group also said that is important to cut down on the graininess. I go nuts and use a combination of all I have. Maybe you guys would have better success with using a mixture of more different kinds of grain...
  25. You could try to go on a really simple diet of vegetables, meats, and fruits and see if that clears up your problems. Then you could add your other foods one at a time to see what is bothering you. I hope you get better soon.
