  1. Gluten free doesn't mean absolutely no gluten. It just means under some certain amount. Soon to be set at 20 ppm, I think. Some of us might be sensitive to smaller amounts. That might have something to do with why the gluten free amount is set to under 5 ppm in Australia and New Zealand. When I ate rice chex I seemed to get a gluten reaction too.
  2. I have had problems with grains. The last bag of millet I got was from a place that said that they process only millet and no wheat is grown within 100 miles of their fields. While I was transferring the big bag of grain to smaller containers I noticed some other types of grain in there. They sure looked like wheat. We phoned them and they said that they...
  3. Bloody noses are one of the things that my son had all the time before he got diagnosed. Now he only gets them when glutened.
  4. I think that exercising as much as I can manage helps with the symptoms of glutening.
  5. I'm not sure if you already know this but...when they check you for celiac disease, they look at your body's response to gluten. If you have already stopped eating gluten, they won't see the response and you will look like you don't have celiac. Did the GI doc know that you had already stopped eating gluten? His advice might have been different.
  6. I'm not sure why they did the biopsy either especially because I ASKED THEM NOT TO, AND THEY AGREED THAT WOULD BE BEST. It looked like you just treat symptoms, and since I am symptom free, why bother giving my health insurance a reason to deny coverage? I guess they get knife crazy. It's a teaching hospital, maybe the fellow doing the colonoscopy hadn...
  7. Dr. Peter Green mentioned it in this interview: It is from a radio show and there is some other stuff to get through before you get to the interview. I enjoyed listening to the interview when it got there. Open Original Shared Link ttp://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2009/06/15/extended-interv-31/ He thinks that it might be responsible for some people...
  8. I just got a biopsy for that when I had my colonoscopy. I was wondering the same thing. My doctors and I think I have celiac disease due to response to diet. That was the reason for the biopsy because MC is often associated with celiac, they told me. I am symptom free as long as I avoid gluten, so I'm not sure why they would bother with the biopsy. I...
  9. I had problems with rice chex, but I am very sensitive and can't eat many processed foods.
  10. You might want to try buying almonds in the shell and shell them yourself to see if those make you sick.
  11. I think that those warnings are for those of us that are more sensitive to small amounts of gluten. If it doesn't bother you, I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't touch it myself because I am very sensitive.
  12. Here is a link that could lead to an article on inhaled gluten. Maybe it will help you. Open Original Shared Link
  13. You might consider that you may not have completely eliminated all sources of gluten yet. That happened to me. I had one more food intolerance to oats, but other than that it was just gluten that I didn't know about that I had to eliminate. I kept finding more for months. I still find it occasionally after almost 2 years. Some of us are more sensitive...
  14. It took me almost a year to truly get used to this diet, though it was a lot better after 6 months. Keep it up, and keep researching to make sure that you eliminate all gluten sources. Soy is a good thing to eliminate as stated. Dairy can be reintroduced after healing occurs, you may be able to handle it again then.
  15. I wash mine three times with soap with a fine mesh strainer and hot water.
  16. I have reacted to McCormicks ground spices, but I have found that if I buy them whole and grind them myself, I do alright.
  17. You could try washing the millet. I was having problems with millet and didn't want to give it up so I have been washing it and that seems to work.
  18. I think that if it is not all scratched up, and you washed it out well, it should be fine.
  19. I believe that I am one of those that react to oatmeal. I had gluten free oatmeal once and got so sick that I am not going to try it again to be sure.
  20. I have had good luck with buying McCormicks whole spices and grinding them myself.
  21. I am also super sensitive. The only cereal that I have found that I can tolerate is Pocono's cream of buckwheat cereal by Birkett Mills. They are an exclusive buckwheat facility and I think the farmers only grow buckwheat to avoid cross contamination. I find it very important to my health to have a place where super sensitive celiacs can share information...
  22. Thanks for the info. I had no idea.
  23. I am going for a colonoscopy in a couple of months. I haven't heard of the laxatives making people vomit. Could you explain that more?
  24. My son and I have had problems with McCormicks spices. I have had more luck buying the whole spices and grinding them myself, and buying leaf spices fresh.
  25. If you look at this gluten free forum thread: www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=57275&view=getlastpost It looks like a negative blood test doesn't necessarily mean that your diet is entirely gluten free. You might want to look into that.
