  2. That also happened to me. It improved when I became more strict with my diet. I pretty well cut out all processed foods and grind my own grains, washing them first. I think that it is something that happens to highly gluten sensitive people.

  4. When my son was first diagnosed it took us a while to figure out the diet. He felt nauseated and had acid reflux quite frequently at school. When he went to the nurse she would take his temperature and since he didn't have a fever would send him back to class. This was after the doctor sent pages of information and instructions to the school.
  5. My son had a gluten reaction after eating their pizza. It was the only different thing in his diet. I contacted them and they said that they test it to below 5 ppm. I guess my son is sensitive to levels lower than this. We have to be careful about most processed foods.
  6. Last I knew Bobs Red Mill processes their gluten free oats in their gluten free facility. If you are one of us celiacs who is also sensitive to oats, you may be reacting to cross contamination from oats. I avoid Bobs Red Mill products for this reason.
  7. When I was pregnant I made an oil from vit E, cocoa butter, and almond oil. No stretch marks. You have to heat the cocoa butter up a bit in the microwave to get it to melt to mix with the others. I think I used half almond oil. Almost half cocoa butter, and some vit E.
  8. Some celiacs react to things that other celiacs tolerate well. It might be best to go on a totally safe diet of fruits, vegetables and meats and then add those gluten free things in one at a time to see what you react to.
  9. I guess I must be super duper sensitive then. It bothers me so I make my own pasta.
  10. I had to quit skiing for awhile because of knee pain. Then I got some knee braces and they made all the difference. After gluten free now, I don't have knee pain anymore. Maybe braces can get you through the inbetween period.
  11. I learned by a lot of poisoning too. One thing I learned the hard way. Some celiacs are more sensitive to trace gluten than others. Just because some eat a ton of it without problems doesn't mean that you will be able to. Just because someone says it is gluten free doesn't mean that it is gluten free enough for you. Good luck.
  12. I decided to get a hand cranked country living grain mill. I'm going to order it today. I'll post if I like it. I get sorghum grain at Twin Valley Mills. They say that they spend 2 days cleaning their combine before using it on the sorghum, and then use the first quite a lot for the general population before selling it to the gluten free crowd.   13. What a horrible situation. I couldn't even finish reading it. I would live in a tent in the woods rather than live there. I would find the cheapest place you can and get out of there. Anything would be better than that. How are you supposed to get healthy like that?
  14. Some people tolerate trace gluten better than others. I can't eat either of the products you mentioned without getting symptoms.
  15. I am sensitive to small amounts of gluten cross contamination and find that I can't eat very many "gluten-free" foods containing grains without getting symptoms.

  18. Lundberg rice is good, but I do wash it. You can mail order it if you don't have it locally.
  19. Get things that you can wash carefully before eating. Fresh is best, but not necessary, if you can wash canned. I can't eat very many of the specialty items. Especially ones containing grains. They are all out. Once you get healthy, you will be able to see which things you can add back into your diet. Don't they even have bananas there?

  21. My reaction to gluten free oats was like my reaction to gluten, if not worse. It was NOT like a reaction to a bit of cross contamination, but like an all out gluten response. It made me sick for 2 months after eating half a serving. I wish I had been more cautious my first time.
  22. I don't understand how intestinal biopsy showing flattened villi can be the gold standard diagnosis for celiac disease if it can be caused by other things. I was unable to access the medscape article because I'm not a member. Do you think that you could paraphrase it for me and others who might be wondering the same thing?
  23. When I went gluten free one eye went from 20/40 to 20/20 and the other from 20/80 to 20/40. I felt like I could see better without my glasses than with them. Yet, my opthamologist said that my prescription hadn't changed. Weird right? I had blurred vision issues when eating gluten that went away.
