Please just keep asking questions also. There is a lot to learn but after awhile it gets second nature. Have your own toaster and butter container. Other people my accidentally get crumbs in your butter. Easiest way to do that is just to take a black sharpy and write"gluten-free" all over your container. I put my toaster away in a cabinet so that others...

ARCHIVED Trouble With Gluten Free Diet
one more mile replied to luna12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I doubt a diagnosis will really help. You already know what the stuff will do to you. We all know people with diabetes that eat sugar, people with cancer that smoke, and people with high blood pressure that do not have time to relax or take a walk. Sorry to sound like such a hard person but that is the only thing that got though to me. I was sick and... -

Sometimes I catch myself watching people stuff that I can not eat. It is almost like food porn. lol -
I am 45 but even as a kid my mom would have the school nurse send me home if my temperature was normal. Its funny how some would argue with her, but moms know. My thyroid went bad when I was 40. but when It was removed. Some sleep problems and depression I had been having since I was 30 went away. Cheese blocks me up.

ARCHIVED Dieing For Something That Tastes Amazing!
one more mile replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I make sure I treat myself once a week. I either bake something or go out and eat at a gluten free place. Otherwise I would start feeling deprived then I would be tempted to eat gluten more. I use almond flour for cooking, it is costly but I buy it in bulk. For breakfast I toss two eggs in a bowel, some Parmesan cheese, almond milk, and sprinkle on... -
Thanks for the heads up. I have 2 bottles of probiotics, One I can't use and just keep to remember not to buy it again. The stuff I cannot use has Streptococcus thermophilus in it so that may be it. I use PB8 A white bottle with blue writing. It is great when I overeat or get gassy, or get constipated. It seems like every few weeks I need a few days of...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosis Daughter We Think!
one more mile replied to DaniMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good luck and please do not give up no mater how frustrating this search can be. We tired all sorts of diets with my Kid until she was 21 and my illness was figured out. When she went on board with being Gluten free and vegetarian she is not ill. Neither of us have been doctor told we are celiac but If we both eat like one we do not get sick. I don't really... -
I eat at Boston Market a lot when I traval. I almost walked out of one today after I was asked 6 times if I wanted something with gluten in it. This was after I told the server I was gluten intolerant and could not eat any wheat at all, I also had the allergy guide handout in my hand and was looking at it. He asked me three times If I wanted a roll, He...

ARCHIVED Sour Cream
one more mile replied to laluka's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
you do need to check when you eat out though. because some sour cream has added things to it so that it stays firm under the heat lamps and does not get watery. I just ask the waitress. I seem to have a 50-50 shot when I eat out. -

I told a new doctor that I once was a hypochondriac but now was a Celiac and she laughed. Then appoligized but said that was a good way to look at it. Same here I had a million things wrong that went away. Not one of them I miss either. Even my handwriting has improved. The changes are so big that other people tell me what they are at times. -
The lack Booze will also cause some big problems if you are addicted to it. DT's can kill. For me the Gluten was a physical addiction. It was hard for me to stop eating it due to the cravings and the fact that at every single meal or snack time I always ate gluten. I would eat gluten at night till i passed out. I would eat it till I felt numb if something...

one more mile replied to GregC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Saddly that is how SSI seems to work. Some people are just to sick to go through the work of getting it. I know someone who got it after a few times after getting a lawyer. Cant you get it for uncontrolled diabetes? Good luck -
ARCHIVED I Wish I Knew Then What I Know Now
one more mile replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I need pity parties sometimes also, today get down and roll in the mud for a while If I really need to, but only for a day and a half. Then I take a long shower and get on with life. I needed to get as sick as I got to be willing to commit to healing my self. Many of the people that saw me suffer for years are now looking at their diet also. It feels good... -
ARCHIVED Testing When Gluten Free
one more mile replied to one more mile's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is what I though I had read here. He disagrees. He has a patient who is the head of a celiac group in the area and as her case may be very differnt from mine his information may point more to her. No medical test was done before I stopped eating gluten other then the home test --eat three pretzels and need a nap test. Oh well, I will just have to continue... -
ARCHIVED A Little History- Hope Not Too Long
one more mile replied to ranger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
that is really interesting. Thanks for backing me up on what I thought was going on. My doctor does not think I am celiac due to the lack of D. but he does not grasp the total change in my life since going off gluten. -
ARCHIVED A Little History- Hope Not Too Long
one more mile replied to ranger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been testing in and out of diabetes for the last three years. My numbers are getting better now that I am gluten-free. The first time my dr saw me, he read my labs, looked over his glasses and said you are about to have a hart attack. My hdl was 19. it is now up to 38, so close the the 40 which is normal by some standards. It has suprized me how... -
ARCHIVED Getting Family On Board With Gluten Free Diet
one more mile replied to rayandme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just tell him that when you get hit by a train it is not the caboose that kills you. Wheat just happens to run like a train though you. This is my illness not anyone else's. in moments of weakness I have to think the bite though. Is eating this worth the trip to the bathroom, the brain fog, tiredness and the body pains? If I hunger for something can... -

The depression may be part of the food allergies. I was on depression medications for years. But Now that I am gluten free there is actually joy in my life! I traval alot and pack a lot of foods to carry along with me. Nuts, crackers, dried fruits, cheese, packaged meat. I find these bang around good in a back pack. I just noticed I can throw things much better with better aim then before. My family has noticed my that my mind is much more clearer and I am more there. For... -
