one more mile posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know that there was some additive in white flour that makes it so that it is not good to eat raw. Any idea what it is? Do other flours have the same stuff in them? If so what temperature do flours need cooked at to neutralize this stuff. Last summer I messed around with raw foods and wanted to see If I could Make crackers with a food dehydrator. I... -

one more mile replied to one more mile's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
She should have a place to cook. right now finding a place for her to bring her dog is number one. She may have found a place in Vermont where she can have her dog and share a kitchen with a woman who is also gluten intolerant. I hope that works for her. she has a lot to learn. and she is a little confuessed by it all right now so this woman could be a godsend... -
ARCHIVED Weird Question Maybe, Has Anyone Been Undiagnosed For A Long Time?
one more mile replied to coldnight's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I use to be a hypochondriac but now find out that I am just a Celiac. My new doctor laughed when I told her that. Then apologized for laughing. Today when I gluten myself the last thing my body needs is for me to put more stuff in it for it to have to deal with. I drink watered down juice ( 1/3 juice or less) and take the day off from expecting me to... -
Maybe someone should give that Idea to Amy's. Sometimes It just does not stand out enough. I sometimes I get confused when in a store that mixes the gluten-free and the non gluten-free stuff. that gets so frustrating. Usually though I notice it before I cook and hand it off to my roommate. I glutened myself yesterday. I had some chocolate coated coffee...

ARCHIVED What Protein To Feed A Vegan?
one more mile posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My 20 year old kid is coming home for a week and is just starting to suspect that she is one of us. She also can not eat meat ( even organic meat tends to make her ill. She actually turns gray when she eats predue chicken) She had eaten vegan for a year and felt better on and off, but then the protein she ate had wheat in it. Soy makes her ill. She spent... -

I have been off gluten for 6 months, yesterday I had to drive for four hours in the fog. for part of the drive I was only able to go 22 miles per hour do to limited vision. About 5 miles from my house I realized that with all that bad weather driving I had not had a single panic attack!!! I am think that most things they told me were in my head were all from... -
ARCHIVED Just Not Sleepy/tired!
one more mile replied to roxnhead's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I spent the last three years of my life totally tired. I was unable to work a normal job also. When I realized it was the gluten that made me have to take naps I did not really care how it worked, I just wanted to join the world of the living again. Everything you put in to your body has an effect on it. I am sure that you would have a strong reaction... -
Dreams like this are pretty coman when someone stops doing a behavior.People who have stoped drinking or smoking usually have these dreams after they have come to peace with the fact that they cannot safely drink or smoke again. usually one wakes up startled or feeling guilty. But few of us have much control over our dreams. So these feelings really do...

ARCHIVED Is This Totally Crazy?
one more mile replied to Adelle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think one big problem with people that have trouble with sleep is they try to fit on someone else time table. After years of trying to get sleep I finely figured that I do not sleep before 12:30 am and I do not wake up till 9 am. I have had to change my job and life around to make it work but there is no way I can attempt to sleep "normal hours." I... -
ARCHIVED My Christmas Sucked
one more mile replied to emcmaster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry It went so rough for you. It sounds like you need a "do over" as my kid would say. Sadly this illness means that we do need to sometimes change some of our traditions. Maybe you and your hubbby can invite some understanding family members over for a new years day brunch? Your mom acted the same way that I though mine would. Lucky for me one... -
ARCHIVED Inability To Properly Absorb Water?
one more mile replied to Woolygimp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About 20 years ago I landed in the hospital with dehydration. It was summer and I was hallucinating. I was also 3 weeks pregnant at the time and did not know it. The Doctor told me to only drink water if there was something in it, 10% fruit juice or a little salt. Otherwise it would just pass though me, possiably pulling more water with it when it left... -

ARCHIVED Getting High On Wheat
one more mile replied to one more mile's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks that was very interesting. I spent an hour googling and reading and it is nice to have a word and some backings to go to what I was thought was going on. one more mile -
Does anyone else get high on wheat before they get ill? I have been sober for a long time and I am now realizing one of the ways I did it was to get stoned on wheat when things got to stressful. I was with a group last night and caught myself watching someone eat a pretzel, I got that old tingle again and knew I needed to look away before I started entertain...

It took us three days to get a breathing machine in to jail for someone who had already "died" once in his sleep. Most diabetics in Jail in county in Pennsylvania have a blood sugar of 250. Sunday brunch in county jail is always toast, french toast sticks and maybe a doughnut. They nearly killed my friend with his gastric bypass. If you make it to jail...

ARCHIVED Rules To Live By So You Can Avoid Getting Glutened
one more mile replied to Lisa16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1) less is better when it comes to the amount of ingredients on a label 2) never be afraid to stand in a grocery store and call the number on the back of a new product to see if it is gluten free. 3) SLOWLY add new foods. Take two bites and wait to see if you get sick. 4) Your homemade is better than any other food you can get 5) eat at least two treats... -
I find it a little amusing how people react. I had a friend who recoiled in horror and said she would die if she could not eat wheat. But then I remember how I at one time ran to the bagel store like a person on crack and ate half of them before I got home. Wheat/gluten really was like a drug for me. As bad as it made me feel it also sedated me and at...

ARCHIVED Ordering A Salad Ok?
one more mile replied to wschmucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First thing is I always keep food in my car. That way if I am a little hungry I know I can be safe. Usually dyed fruit figs or apricots and A gluten-free cracker or tortilla chip. I also keep a spoon in the car. It is easier to run into a grocery store for a fast meal then a fast food place. Yogurt and/ or fruit cup work well for a fast meal Sometimes... -
sadly stories like this are common. The more I am gluten-free the more I am finding things that were related to it. I knew of a man that was going to an eye doctor, an sinus doctor, a back doctor and one for his lungs. Finely the light went on for the lung doctor and he ordered a test and found out the poor guy had a brain tumor. The guy is fine today...

ARCHIVED Help With Diagnosing Thyroid Issues With Celiac!
one more mile replied to Paeldi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sounds like you need to find a good endocrinologist's. He or she will be able to look at the big picture and figure it out. a GP may not. It took me two endocrinologist to find a good one, I now drive an hour to see him. Most of my adult life what I ate and what I weighed were not related, at all. I have since had my thyroid removed and my labs... -
I live in a small town and really want a few places that I can go out to eat on nights I do not feel like cooking. I called my favorite place to eat, a golf course with a great view and a real chef. She said she would be happy to cook gluten free and it was a slow night so it would not be a problem. When I got to Golden Oaks I asked the waitress to ask...

ARCHIVED Ocean City Nj And Harrah's In Atlantic City
one more mile replied to stolly's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Bally's eatery called six( spelled some odd way I do not remember) has portabella mushroom steaks that are gluten-free and out of this world. They serve them with rice but they are pretty flexible if you tell them that you have food allergies. but if you are still in the angry stage you may have problems watching others with their bread baskets. One more... -

ARCHIVED Dairy? Okay Or Not?
one more mile replied to Kit.DaMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am fine with milk. I gave it up for a while because I thought it cased me to want to binge but now that I am gluten free it seems to not bother me at all. I eat a lot of dairy at this time because I have had to give up other things so that I feel good. I eliminated most foods then slowly added them back to see what I can eat and what I can not eat...
