  1. Yes, I used to always be aware of my stomach. There was pain, mild upset, and even burning. I had many more symptoms than that. But not gluten-free. Now my stomach feels normal. I thought I didn't remember what normal felt like! If you're testing that soon, why don't you stay on the gluten for now? Make sure they take about 10 samples from different...
  2. I second all that advice. Try the diet, I'm betting you'll feel better and that rash will eventually go away. Really, there are dr's out there who make you believe what they tell you, but this disease is so tricky. I think many of them just don't learn the spectrum of ways it can present.
  3. Keeping a food journal with symptom entries will help you in the long run. It also sometimes can bring something to light that has been staring you in the face for awhile but you haven't noticed for whatever reason. By the way, I have never heard an account of anyone with a false positive. I think it's an Urban Celiac Myth!
  4. I was at my sickest when I worked for Pizza Hut. I didn't know I had celiac disease at that time. I also am self-diagnosed due to monetary reasons. But that doesn't make me any less sure. I won't go back on gluten for testing, I just get too sick. My body has made it pretty clear what it needs and doesn't need to be well. And I believe it! I wouldn...
  5. Your dr's and their tests are giving you conflicting advice, but your body will not. Go gluten-free, your symptoms will either resolve or not. Your body will tell you what it needs and doesn't need. Just listen to it. P.S. Your body is better informed than your dr's!
  6. Sounds to me that you just fasted for a few hours for your test. That won't be a problem. But the other poster is correct. Going gluten-free is a good trial for you. Your tests could prove negative that's not uncommon. You could still be gluten intolerant and no test will prove that. But a solid dietary response will. No matter your test results, give...
  7. If your curious, you could have the genetic testing. That might show you the link your interested in. It doesn't dx celiac disease, but can tell you if you posess the genetic makeup that makes you vulnerable to gluten.
  8. Your child is lucky to have such a concerned Mom! People just don't get the ramifications of the disease. They never will fully understand. Don't expect them too and maybe you won't be so disapointed in them. I really resented my family not understanding me very well. I'm still pretty sensitive when they make comments that rub me the wrong way. I shouldn...
  9. When you hear someone has a disease such as diabetes do you look down on them and consider them a weakling? I hope not. You probably don't do that and other people don't either. If you don't look at others that way, why would you assume they are looking at you like that? Isn't the saying "if you think people are looking at you and talking about you, think...
  10. I don't see nearly enough protein in your diet. The eggs suggested will be excellant for you. Is there a reason you don't eat meat? You may have to get at least a little in there. Your body especially your muscles, like your heart muscle, really need protein for good health. Eat more nuts and avocados are a good scource of dietary fat. All those changes...
  11. Cannes is used to wealthy and often famous guests. You've got to guess that a good amount of those want particular dietary treatments. You won't be the first. You are probably staying at a 4 or 5 star place. Call and e-mail to them and start a dialog with the head chef. I'm sure they will bend over backwards to accomodate you. Meetings like that always...
  12. On another post, someone gave this suggestion for a restaurant mistake. She said to tell the server you will keep the problem plate with you while they bring you a properly prepared plate. At that time you will exchange them. That way they cannot use the old plate on you or pick off the offending food. If this is overwhelming and new to you, you...
  13. I use Bob's Red Mill but they are rather bland so I started adding vanilla and cinnamon. M-m-m-m!!
  14. I mostly get the blistery ones on my forearms and hands, mostly my right. I get a different looking rash in the groin area but both are triggered by gluten.
  15. I have battled insomnia for many years. I have several things that each help a little and help me get most of the rest I need. Sticking to a set bedtime and wake up time 6 days a week is a big stablizer for me. One day a week I need to sleep in. I really suffer if I don't get that. I have taken melatonin for years starting with 1/2 milligram and now...
  16. Yes, magnesium is good for constipation and most of us are low on mag anyway.
  17. Hey, no wonder you're stressed if your working extended hours as well as coping with testing and diet! You ARE a super woman!! I'm glad to see you are coping a little better. About the tests, it's a good idea to always ask for personal copies of any test results you have. Keep those in a file. Even if you don't know how to read the results, you...
  18. Thanks for the advice. I will pass it on. She's desperate for any help.
  19. Guys, pleased have your dr check this. My friend just had surgery last week for a cancerous thyroid. Her main symptom was trouble swallowing pills and food. She pushed her dr and he agreed to a sonogram of her thyroid. That showed enlargement which caused them to take a needle biopsy then to surgery. Just make sure you are not in her shoes. At first...
  20. Actually some people do get withdrawal symptoms from going off gluten. Maybe someone with more medical knowledge can speak up. The way I understand it the gluten can affect the same area of the brain that addictions reside in; the opiate centers. Please speak up if I'm not explaining it right. So it is possible your symptoms can be withdrawal related...
  21. This big change can feel overwhelming at first. But as a self described health nut, I would think you would be delighted to find another key to excellant health. For you, gluten is poison. It's going to ruin all that good health you've worked so hard to obtain. Just go back to very basic food for at least a month until you have the hang of it. Then...
  22. Since your tests were incomplete for celiac disease, you did not have an endoscopy, and the blood work wasn't enough for diagnosis, you can still try the gluten free diet. I suspect you could get some relief from it. You could still have celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Your symptoms are suspicious. The diet could help you decide from how you feel...
  23. Possibly a yes on the spices. I usually avoid anything that lists natural flavors but does not identify gluten-free. I'm just lazy about calling the company. I know some of those are OK but without a call to the company, I'd rather skip it. You need to be cautious about spice mixes. As an example, I use Lawry's Seasoned Salt but the generics of that...
  24. You mentioned chicken breast. Was that a frozen chicken breast? Sometimes those are coated or injected with broth. You have to check the package to see if it is or not and if it is what are the ingredients. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. Maybe you can go back to a very simple whole food diet for a few days until things calm down. Have you checked...
  25. That's like when your spouse demolishes the tooth paste container. Just get your own toothpaste. No one likes to be nagged. I really liked the suggestion someone made on another thread. She said get a plastic box to go in your fridge for all your gluten-free stuff. That made a lot of sense. It's very obvious and a no brainer for the rest of the...
