  1. My DH took about 6-8 weeks to completely heal. I didn't know anything about iodine at the time so didn't reduce it. Maybe mine would have cleared up sooner if I had.
  2. Me too and was it painful! That was what finally got my attention enough to put it all together. It takes at least a couple of months to clear too so don't get rid of your cream.
  3. Could be exactly what you think it is, DH. Why don't you go have it tested where your daughter was tested? As you know, celiac disease is hereditary.
  4. The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center says you should be eating gluten for four to eight weeks before testing if you have been eating gluten-free for awhile. You can go to their website for a lot of good info.
  5. If it's not celiac disease it could be gluten intolerance; same symptoms, same treatment. One blood test coming up negative isn't proof you don't have celiac disease either. Lots of people that have it, tested negative on the blood panel.
  6. Yes, you do need to be eating gluten for your endoscopy. dr should have told you that. You sound pretty typical to me. Even if by some chance your test is negative, you could still be gluten intolerant; same symptoms, same treatment. So you can go back on your gluten-free diet the day of your test.
  7. You sure have many symptoms that could indicate celiac disease, down to the migraines and depression. Get tested right away and see where that leads you. It's a good chance you are not the only one in your household.
  8. Is your test this Thursday the 16th? Then you probably wouldn't mess up your test results for a couple of days. But your GI should know that any longer than that will make a big difference to your test results. If it's longer than this week, you should keep eating gluten.
  9. Welcome, Emma. I too was very nervous about the biopsy but it was a piece of cake with no scarey stuff and no afteraffects. I would do it again in a minute. Don't let it bother you. Your symptoms do sound typical but that doesn't mean there can't be something else going on. But celiac disease is a big deal and should be tested first. It sounds...
  10. I was overweight and still am but I have lost 11 pounds this year. At least I can lose now, before it was almost impossible.
  11. What else is in the crepe and what else in the toothpaste?
  12. It's hard to give up your favorite foods and start a whole new lifestyle from one day to the next. It's OK to be emotional about it. First I would like to say, how would anyone know if you have a dx or not? Isn't your visit with your dr private and privileged? Do not share private info with others who are not your family. It's a need to know basis...
  13. Welcome! I'm glad you're on the road to good health. I don't object to bonking your DH over the head but it would be helpful to you if he went with you in future. Your gastro might send you to a nutritionist. It would be good to take your husband on that visit. She can explain to him as a professional how important it is to comply to your dietary needs...
  14. Sounds similar to the reaction I get if my blood sugar gets too low.
  15. Ditto on the stevia! I use the powdered concentrate. I also cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners but the soft drink companies are coming out with drinks with stevia so I might try those. Welcome to the forum! I hope your new way of eating is the answer to your health concerns. It sure cleared up a lot of pain for me.
  16. gluten fresh dairy nitrites/ates allspice artificial sweeteners coffee some teas
  17. Where are you? I used to live in Flagstaff!
  18. You plainly have celiac disease if you have two positive blood results. Endoscopies can have false negatives for various reasons. Just know that you haven't been gluten-free very long. That, along with your thyroid problems, can certainly have you anxious and very fatigued. As mentioned, give it time and give yourself all the good food and supplements...
  19. How much magnesium are you taking? Dr. Carolyn Dean who wrote the book I mentioned recommends around 600 mgs for normal adult patients. I notice I tend to need higher than average amounts of supplements to do the trick. I've built up to 660 mgs right now. That's the point where my bm's are soft. I don't want D so if I think I need more, I'll try the topical...
  20. I take something for pain if it gets too bad, then mostly just endulge my syptoms with rest and safe food.
  21. Are you eating gluten free right now and for how long?
  22. Endoscopy and blood work aren't the only ways to dx celiac disease. A strong dietary response like you've shown is a big part of the puzzle, one answer that can show your dr what you've learned about your system. celiac disease can be hard to dx and endoscopy isn't always conclusive especially when you were eating gluten-free beforehand. If your dr won...
  23. I do not have migraines but my daughter, my assistant's son and other friends do. I helped my daughter when I read about the benefits of feverfew for migraines. I already had her on B6. This helped her but not as much as another herbal combination called Migraliev. It has feverfew, magnesium and roboflavin. These give her great relief. Much fewer...
  24. Whether to keep eating gluten for testing or to just plunge in and try the diet, that is a very personal decision. I've read plenty of posts from parents whose child reagained growth going gluten-free. But that is not the only possible medical explanation. Some of the parents held out for testing and others didn't. I hope they will weigh in with you here...
  25. My friend's 20 year old daughter had to be retested and they put her on one slice of bread a day.
