  1. I can't give you personal info on that, I was very lucky and just felt better each day. But I've read other posters say anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. I think the PP's advice was good. Just make sure not to let yourself get hungry as you can be very tempted to give into your withdrawal and cheat. Visual gluten foods as something disgusting like...
  2. However, I just had a follow-up blood test (it's been a bit over 7 months), and the doctor said my levels have improved from where they were but I'm still in the positive range, so I must be getting gluten somehow. She suggested I see a dietitian which I will do, but I have also decided to stop eating in restaurants full stop. It's frustrating because...
  3. Many people have reported withdrawal symptoms that can be mild to severe. They usually just say you have to wait it out. Also consider you might have some other foods you are sensitive to. Some, like dairy, you may need to leave alone for awhile but maybe can tolerate after some healing. Some you may have to always avoid and still others can only be...
  4. My daughter was tested 6 years ago for Celiac. What prompted the testing was a drop off in her growth rate, and off and on stomaches and diarrhea. She had one antibody level that was just barely elevated, all others negative, colonoscopy very normal. So Celiac Disease was ruled out, which was a good thing. There was no further conversation about possible...
  5. My niece has your symptoms and was finally dx'd with PCOS. She really struggles with her health. It has led to diabetes that at times cannot be controled. Two weeks ago she had a staph infection that led to a boil the size of a flip flop. She had to have it surgically lanced but it was so big the incision was severel inches long. I think she was close...
  6. I second the notion of magnesium. I didn't realize how important it was or how deficient I was until I read "The Miracle of Magnesium" by Dr. Carolyn Dean. I followed her advice and am seeing the benefits especially in my blood pressure.
  7. Good job seeking your own dx!
  8. If your son has already gone through all his testing, there is no reason for him to keep eating gluten. Do you think he'll have to test all over again? I would have had him go gluten-free the day of the endoscopy and never look back. He's had all the tests the dr's are going to run so he can go gluten-free immediately. The dietary response he felt before...
  9. Congratulations! Now you can keep your dr and kudos to him for changing with the science and not being stubborn.
  10. There are three different conditions a person can experience with wheat. You can have celiac disease in which your body creates antibodies that attack and damage parts of your body when you ingest gluten; wheat, rye, & barley. You could be gluten intolerant where you still react to gluten but theorectically do not damage your internal organs (there is...
  11. Some of these could be realated to celiac disease, just as you thought. It wouldn't hurt to get blood panel drawn by your dr for celiac disease. That would be a start. Did you not eat gluten on your trip? You mentioned dairy but not gluten. Keep eating normally until you get tested or the tests will be thrown off.
  12. Why do you think your "only" GI? There are those that think GI is just a precursor to the damaged intestine of celiac disease. If you have DH, you do have celiac disease. You are right that the meds aren't going to help DH. I'm lucky, I don't get the lesions on my face but I do get them, my razor got me too!
  13. I had a peeled peach, a slice of Oscar Meyer ham (verified gluten-free), and the Miralax. In a matter of 30 minutes, I was sick. Any thoughts? I started reacting to ham last summer. I'm guessing it's the nitrites/trates. I only eat Hormel Naturals now, no added bad stuff. Maybe it was the ham. Does it also contain MSG? Some people react that...
  14. I personally wouldn't stay with a dr who felt a vitamin D defiency wasn't important. It is very important and key to your wellbeing. Also your dr should run any bloodwork you ask for and are willing to pay your part of. My dr was sceptical also but would not deny a test. As has been said, you can just go gluten-free if you want. You can't have accurate...
  15. Don't assume that because you put on weight that you cannot have celiac disease. Not true, I believe that the % is about 34% that are overweight not underweight. I'm overweight and I have it. Each person is different. Keep eating gluten if you plan to get tested or the tests will not be accurate.
  16. That's true. My dr made it clear to me that he doesn't have that information available to him. So if he prescribes a drug, I have to research for myself whether it's gluten-free or not. Don't assume what your dr knows, always ask. Dr's really don't know much about nutrition.
  17. If these are breads that you buy, remember that even though some products are labeled gluten-free, they can still contain small amounts of gluten. For the sensitive, this can be too much. It could be that or another food sensitivity. My friend's DD cannot tolerate tapioca starch. Although xanthum gum seems to be well tolerated, guar gum can have a laxative...
  18. My fatigue improved a lot when I went gluten-free. But I really zapped it with B12. Now if I forget for a couple of days, it gets me again.
  19. I feel better when I don't eat any grains, coffee, artificial sweeteners and allspice.
  20. Pull him back to a very simple diet and see if his gut likes it. But I wouldn't wait long. Simple meats with salt and pepper, eggs, rice and vegetables. No dairy for now. If he feels better, then you will know you're on the right track, if not, you'll have to get him to a dr.
  21. My family has been in fair concessions for five generations. We are mostly candy makers but also do some meal items. The gluten free items we made are: cotton candy caramel apples (dairy) fudge (dairy) taffy popcorn roasted peanuts butterscotch corn soft drinks lemon shakeups snocones corn on the cob Italian...
  22. I take half in the morning and the rest at night with two exceptions. I only take calcium in the morning as I have a hard time swallowing it at night, sometimes it gets stuck. I'm afraid of completely choking. I can swallow it fine in the morning. ? I also only take B12 in the morning or early afternoon as it can interfere with my sleep.
  23. I think it all depends on whether you are a super sensitive or not and whether you are able to express yourself to the staff. I'm not a super sensitive and although I don't eat out that often, I haven't had a problem doing it. I usually make sure I have a Lara bar with me in case and certain functions I take my own food. I wouldn't have a problem eating...
  24. I would just assume you have celiac disease and stop worrying about dr's and their changing opinions. You did react to gluten and then, as the PP said, you probably kicked in your leaky gut and now it's unhappy with about everything you're eating. Back off to a very simple diet until you feel better, noting your food and reactions in a journal. After...
  25. I have tremors. Mostly in my hands. I always could make my right hand tremor if I held it a certain way but otherwise it was still. About 3-4 years ago both hands were tremoring especially when holding a drink. I read up on it and it seemed I fit the description that were not harmful or a sign of neurological disease. I brought it to my Dr's attention...
