  1. I am so sorry you had to go to such an ignorant, condescending man. I wish the same treatment on him when he needs compassion. I remember watching a movie, can't recall the name, where the surgeon has to have a biopsy and cannot speak afterward. He is in a common hospital room and is given a barium enema meant for the patient in the next bed. He tries...
  2. Wow, that's a lot of alternate grains. I would be all backed up if I ate that much grain. I really cannot tolerate that many grains. I haven't tried oatmeal. Some people react and I figure I'd be one of them. Also remember that those mixes can have very small amounts of gluten even though they are labeled gluten-free. That doesn't bother some people...
  3. I tend to get a topical reaction to gluten. My legs are broken out right now from new razors labled "sensitive skin". Should have known better.
  4. I don't know what kind of frosting you use but we use a shortening based frosting that's like bakeries use. Still back in my decorating days, my warm hands would eventually melt the frosting. I would make up more than one bag and rotate them into the refrigerator. Shortening won't melt as fast as butter and rotating th bags worked well for me.
  5. I saw some improvement to my insomnia on the gluten-free diet. That was because my congestion and post nasal drip was reduced so dramatically. I would cough myself awake before. I have taken melatonin for many years and it does help me with a deeper sleep. In the last few months I supplemented magnesium and that has also helped my sleep. It relaxes...
  6. I agree with you on the extreme importance of magnesium. I didn't realize it till I read a book from my library called "The Miracle Magnesium" by Dr. Carolyn Dean. You do have to slowly build up your supplemention to avoid D. Dr. Dean recommends 600 mg for a normal sized adult but I take a little more than that. You also can use magnesium oil topically...
  7. I, too, worried about diabetes before celiac disease. My blood sugar always tested OK. I knew I was hypoglycemic. When I broke out in a rash that wouldn't heal, I was really stumped because I thought that had to show diabetes. Then I read it also could be a sign of celiac disease! That's what finally helped me DX myself. I still drink a lot and...
  8. I am no expert on blood tests but this might help you. https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interp...ults/Page1.html
  9. When you get tested, ask for each individual test to be run. It is my understanding that some labs will just not run all the testing if certain ones aren't positive. Someone correct me if I misunderstood that one. I know you said you don't like to cook but going gluten free, you really are going to have to prepare some meals. Many people have reported...
  10. I'm so glad you are getting tested and I hope the results are what you want. Most of all, just listen to your body when you are ready to go gluten-free. It will tell you if you are on the right, track. My niece has PCOS and diabetes. I hope her new endocrinologist is smart enough to test her too. She doesn't really comment on my suggestions that...
  11. What was it that you ate that you reacted to?
  12. Excellant! It's great to see someone who has taken control of their life and come back to health!
  13. I have not had an endoscopy for celiac disease. But I understand that some like to have it done to measure the extent of the damage and also just to double check there are no cancer cells. I think that is your own personal decision.
  14. As far as lactose intolerance, mine has gotten more sensitive over the years. In the beginning, I could use Lactaid and I did OK. But I cannot tolerate lactose reduced milk any longer. Any fresh dairy is out. But I am not allergic to casein; I still can eat butter and some cheeses. You are in the beginning stages of healing and your system is still...
  15. What I think is that if you're not that committed, you're doomed to fail. It seems to me you really need a dx in order to take the mental leap to the diet. Why don't you get another blood test? Now you know the tests to ask for. Make sure you're still eating gluten so it has every chance of coming out right. After the test then post the results here....
  16. You wouldn't think a diabetic was being demanding if they asked for a diabetic meal, would you? The other posters are correct that a polite and courteous demeanor will go a long way for you. If you act like it's standard for you to ask this, they will assume it is and accomodate you. It is uncomfortable the first time you have to do this but it won...
  17. I don't respond that quickly to gluten but everyone's different. I find myself drinking a lot of Koolaid this summer and haven't had a problem with it. I wonder if you could be reacting to the food dyes.
  18. Don't jump the gun! You haven't even heard the results from your biopsy. Don't assume you need the DH to get a dx. I know it's hard to wait but hang in there. I didn't feel the need to make myself sick again for a dx. My body told me what I needed to know. That's a personal desicion you have to make but you are cool here at the forum whether you go...
  19. I doubt your conclusions too. I mean your conclusion that you do not have celiac disease. You mention a test. May I ask what test did you have? Can you post the results here? Know that blood tests are notorious for false negatives and if you are IgA deficient, your blood will never test positive even if you have full blown celiac disease. In other...
  20. That's a pretty specific time frame you noticed. What changed during that time? Did you start any new meds or supplements? Have your normal ones changed formulas? You said you are mostly avoiding nightshades. What are you not avoiding? Are you also avoiding paprika and peppers in seasonings?
  21. You can find magnesium oil to apply to your skin and salts for bathing in here: Open Original Shared Link These might not give you the full dose you need but might help you supplement what you can take.
  22. This doesn't sound exactly like the condition you all described but I thought you might find it interesting. Open Original Shared Link
  23. My DH took about as long to clear up as it was a problem for me; 6 - 8 weeks gluten-free. I've read other posters say that the antibodies take a while to leave your skin. Is your test soon? I think you could eat enough to break you out again. I don't think it's like the long term usage you need for and endoscopy. Maybe someone will post who knows more...
  24. I was scared of the endoscopy but it was a piece of cake. I don't remember a thing and I didn't have a sore throat.
  25. You're lucky because you had a clue to your illness. Those of us that are clueless go to our dr's with these seemingly random symptoms expecting our dr to put it all together. Many dr's are just undereducated about celiac disease and don't see the pattern. So we are stuck spinning our wheels while test after test is run with no results. Oh if I only could...
