ARCHIVED I Am Only 18 & So Confused. I've Suddenly Developed This....
ang1e0251 replied to BoyWonder's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had two different rashes. The one on my forearms and hands sounds like what you descibed. In fact, I kept thinking I was getting bug bites and was sure my husband had brought home bed bugs in his suitcase. Of course I never found any bugs, it was DH. -
I run the Angel food program at my church and I would find a way for you to buy the fruit and vegetable box if you needed it. The basic box is full of gluten so not acceptable. But get with your local provider and see if they can't accomodate you. I would.

ARCHIVED Questions Regarding Blood Tests And Celiac Diet
ang1e0251 replied to Hardeep's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My joint pain went away with the gluten-free diet but I do have muscle pain now if I don't take my B12 or other vitamins. -
ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong?
ang1e0251 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have to agree with you. To me crockpot cooking has a certain "flavor" to it I just usually don't like. I do like to use it to make broths or to keep food warm in for a carry-in but for cooking a meal I'd rather have the taste of the stove or oven. -
ARCHIVED Let's Give Some Good Shopping Advice
ang1e0251 replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am also on a tight budget. I make my own food and treats. I use corn tortillas anywhere I used to have bread, I toast it in my toaster and eat with eggs, for sandwiches, wraps and pizza crust. I buy the 100 pack at Walmart less than $5.00. That lasts me more than 1 month, eating them daily. I make peanut butter cookies, the old recipe with no... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think This Would Work?
ang1e0251 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was taught to make chicken and rice this way. Use a little broth with your diced chcken and bring to a low boil with your choice of vegetables. Boild this down to almost dry then stir in cooked rice. Add a little oil to this till hot then serve. You can make it pretty by filling a soup bowl with it packed tight. Upend on a plate & remove the bowl... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong?
ang1e0251 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have never cooked rice in a crockpot. I learned to eat rice in Colombia. They eat long grain white rice cooked simply for neary every meal. I was taught that on the stove this had to be boiled hard for a time, then the heat lowered until done. Now I admit I was never very good at getting the temp and timing right. Usually just asked my husband to make... -
[ They are these excellent little cheese breads made with no yeast or wheat flour (they use tapioca flour instead). I bought some mixes to bring home, and they are all labeled gluten free. In Colombia these are called Pan de Yuca and they are made with tapioca flour like you descibed. You can find these mixes in most Hispanic markets, lots of those...

ARCHIVED Normal To Find Polyps When Having Gastroscopy Done?
ang1e0251 replied to Magician's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To diagnose celiac, you must have a blood celiac panel run then your GI would take biopsies from the small intestine. Your testing thus far is for other conditions, as far as you have described. The symptoms in your last post could definately be celiac disease. Why don't you ask for a full celiac panel from your next dr visit? Can't hurt... -

For the milk question, I also cannot tolerate Lactaid but my daughter can. ?? -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed: Are My Symptoms Typical?
ang1e0251 replied to Nichelob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most of the muscle twitches cleared up with sublingual B12. I guess it was another low vitamin symtom. I get the nerve stuff in my mouth. It felt like my tongue had tremors and they were getting stronger and stronger. I gave up the last sweetener that I thought I could tolerate. A little better. Then I had a stomach bug and dropped my coffee to one... -
Maybe you can ask him if he's ever had a hangover. Imagine the worst hangover you've ever had and add stomach flu to that and that's what I'm coping with. I don't imagine he did much cooking or housework or childcare under those conditions. Maybe he can understand it a little better that way.

ARCHIVED Autolyzed Yeast
ang1e0251 replied to gail's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the answer, I really had no clue. Isn't Swanson broth off the good list along with Prego sauces? I thought I read they changed their formulas. -
ARCHIVED Being Cautious Vs Obsession
ang1e0251 replied to MollyBeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think we all feel the strain of changing out entire way of thinking of food and shopping. I rebel against it at times still but have a little talk with myself in my head. " Remember, you boob," I say, "You prayed for a healing answer and now you have it. This is a small price to pay for the good health you're experiencing. So get over it!!" As time... -
ARCHIVED Another Ideas For Glutening Post...
ang1e0251 replied to wsieving's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Someone on another thread mentioned they had a reaction from using the same can opener for the pet food as the people food. Her reaction sounds like I get if I'm glutened by ingesting the same problem thing every day. I had a time narrowing that kind of reaction down. I'd look at something she is eating or taking (vitamins, supplements) daily and... -
ARCHIVED This Week's Gluten Free Menu
ang1e0251 replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Once again, I want to eat at your house!! Hey, when I used to work for Pizza Hut, pre-dx, my friend introduced me to her version of Chips Pizza. We sold a Mexican pizza; pizza crust topped with refried beans, hamburger and cooked. Out of the oven we added fresh shredded lettuce, diced onion, cheese, chopped tomatoes then top the whole thing with crushed... -
I have only had a recurrance of DH once in the year I've been gluten-free. I was having a coffee once, six days a week with syrups with caramel coloring in them. Even though they should not have gluten, I stopped reacting when I stopped using those syrups with the coloring.

ARCHIVED Why Is It So Hard?
ang1e0251 replied to Bridy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I also prefer my own chicken nuggets. Instead of flour I use instant potato flakes and it is yummy. I also like corn tortillas fried in butter then layered; buttered corn tortilla, provolone cheese, Hormel Natural pepperoni, another cheese, than another tortilla. Then I cut these into triangles and dip into gluten-free spaghetti sauce. M-m-m-m... ... -
Are you close enough to go to the University of Chicago Celiac Disease center? I would if I weren't a 3 hour drive away here in Milford.

I will have to say I'm optomistic about my memory. It's getting better and better. When asked something, like someone's name, and I get the doink look on my face, in the past I could either never recall the name or maybe in a few days recall it. Now after a few seconds or maybe a minute I can usually recall it. A major accomplishment for me!! Sometimes...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free: How Long To See Dh Improve?
ang1e0251 replied to JenR's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I had more than half of the symptoms on ravenwoodglass's list all of which have disapeared or improved drastically over the past year on the gluten-free diet. You say you can't imagine how you would know if it's working? I'm betting feelings you never imagined were related to your food will astound you if you give the diet a trial. Moreover, your dd... -
ARCHIVED Happy Harvest Pineapple
ang1e0251 replied to radical67's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The labeling laws require the producer to list sugar if it is added. That should be sugar free.
