  1. Anything new in your diet? I found out I was reacting to a tea I was drinking nearly all day long. That'll teach me for buying the cheap stuff!!
  2. I just use spring roll wrappers, inexpensive and easy to use.
  3. I felt the same when we moved to AZ. Culture was very different. Snow or warm weather is just a short drive away. We loved it. Jobs are tough though.

    ARCHIVED Flu

I had that this fall and it was the pits. I lived on homemade chicken and rice noodle soup and tea. It really just had to run it's course with me. Sorry, I hope you feel better soon.
  5. I can do without the pastas, breads, etc., but it's the dressings, sauces, etc. that kill my motivation. I'm the type of person who likes to blend in with the crowd, and not get any special attention, so trying to explain my strict dietary needs to a restaurant manager is downright painful for me. I just want to crawl under the table or run away! ...
  6. I'm proud of you and your couple of days. And I won't go without my favorite foods. I learn how to make them myself or eat them in a new way. Like cheeseburgers, I didn't think I could, but I actually enjoy them without the bun, after all I have fries with them and it's very close to the flavor of a bun, IMO. I didn't used to eat the fries but now,...
  7. Congratulations on one year gluten free! It's a great feeling, isn't it?
  8. My DH cleared up, slowly, on the gluten-free diet. I don't get it any more unless I have a glutening. Look to your food and toiletries. There may be hidden in a surprise product.
  9. I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. I can feel for you because I had bad periods from the first one. No dr could ever find anything wrong with me. Going on birth control helped with the pain and duration some. I was always told childbirth would clear that up for me. Sorry, no. When I started cycling every 3 weeks & only had a few days a month with...
  10. Just wanted to add that it might be helpful to your family if you took some before and after pictures. My friend said her family was looking at pictures from after her husband's heart attack and he looked so ill and old, she had to walk away. I know my whole complexion has changed since going on the GFD, if I had allowed pictures I could have a better comparison...
  11. I was over the moon at the dx. I finally had an answer and to many more problems than I ever imagined. It wasn't all in my head, it was in my gut!
  12. Oh, and for me - I have a history of Crohn's disease, lactose intolerance, and possibly Celiac (but mild, and I don't want the test because I already can't eat anything! so I just deal) It's sounds like you already have a problem facing the possibility of having celiac disease yourself, won't it be difficult for you if your baby has it? Your...
  13. Ok, I just read a post that mentioned that Celiacs have long eyelashes. Is that true? My lashes are growing super long since I went gluten-free. They've never been long like this before. Who has noticed long eyelashes since starting the diet? Or did you always have lush lashes? Who thinks it's related to celiac disease?
  14. You don't know how many times I searched and disenfected that bedding and mattress. I looked for all the signs, nothing. Of course, my husband wasn't getting "bitten". I didn't know about DH then, so I never even considered it.
  15. We also have a rice cooker, love it! We make enough rice for 3 or 4 days then microwave it for leftovers. I found if I sprinkle a little water over the top then nuke it, it's moist and good. I don't know about short grain, we only eat long grain.
  16. It could be something sneaky also. This week I finally figured out that my recent stomach pain was caused by some tea I bought at Dollar General. Looked OK but definately didn't feel good. Within about an hour of stopping it, I already felt better. At the 24 hour mark, felt normal again. Yea!!
  17. Not only do I react differently, I may have different symptoms that juggle themselves around! I usually always have D but the neurological stuff is a grab bag; mind fog, tremors, stupid brain, mood swings, unjustified anger, clumsiness, joint pain. Any or some of these might occur along with unending hunger and apathy. Yuck, no wonder I avoid gluten...
  18. 1) Since I have DH does it mean I am Celiac or "just" gluten intolerant? I realize I need to stay as gluten-free as possible either way but I'm concerned about the internal damage. I don't have many symptoms compared to what I've been reading so maybe ugly elbows was an early wake up call? As I understand it, positive DH biopsy results are conclusive...
  19. I think you are all right; it's a mind set that takes some time to get. After going gluten-free, I had no desire to cheat but I was more careless on occasion than good for me. I started to visualize gluten as poison ivy. That picture in my head really healped. I thought I would still bake flour goods for my family but then I visualized poison ivy flour...
  20. I eat dry roasted peanuts no problem but last week had a reaction to Lay's potato chips. Won't ever eat those again.
  21. Welcome!! For the food cop, I probably wouldn't eat anything with natural flavorings without calling the company first. That's cause of my own experience. It isn't always a problem for us but sometimes it does contain gluten products which of course are natural. But that' s just me. It could have been something else you reacted to. What did you...
  22. I would just say exercise the caution other posters have mentioned. My friend was murdered in Haiti while in nursing school. I lived in Colombia but I can't travel there now; just too dangerous. Even during better times, you had to be very carefull. On the other hand, living in another country was a life changing experience for me. I would highly...
  23. Welcome!! We have probably gone through things you are or soon will be experiencing so don't be afraid to raise any subject. And congrats on your diagnosis, it sounds like the final answer you needed.
  24. I am concerned with dessert as I know he will want some of the more traditional sweets There are probably many of his sweets that can be made gluten-free. You could post what you had in mind and ask for recipes. Some items can be made ahead and frozen. You could have a family member bring them along for you. There's no reason why the food need...
  25. Congratulations on taking control of your health!! Proactively insuring your health is the best gift you can give your family, whether they realize it or not.
