  1. 2 thoughts. I lost a full shoe size after going gluten free due to the bloat. (At the same time, I gained 20 lbs and people kept commenting on how thin I was looking). Also, I too experienced mild urinary incontinence that was getting worse. It stopped almost immediately after going gluten free. I'm guessing it was muscle weakness and more importantly, nerve...
  2. You're not the first person to have made that mistake. I hope you feel better soon. Tylenol and benadryl help me get through the worst of the pain for the first few days. (I don't really have GI issues). Stay hydrated and when you are feeling better, find the gluten-free cinnamon sugar donuts in the freezer section. I can't remember the brand, but the box...
  3. Were you gluten free when you had the 2nd blood test done? If yes, it is supposed to come back negative. That does not mean it is gone, just that you are managing the diet well. Also, if the doc didn't run all the tests, he/she could have missed the one that was positive. After learning from these folks and online journal articles, I would stay gluten...
  4. Get him to a good dermatologist and have those rashes biopsied for DH. I think they have to do just outside or the edges of the rash. DH is as good as a celiac diagnosis. Go to the DH part of this forum and I suspect you will find the information you need. A little skin biopsy is nothing compared to 2 months of gluten and an intestinal biopsy. Consider the...
  5. Skylark, Thank you for that link. One of my tests keeps coming back high dispite the gluten-free diet. Once I look back at my records, I'll be able to use that site to help me figure out what else to request testing for.
  6. Some people with celiac just don't do well with dairy for one reason or another. For me it is an allergy. For many it is because the damage done to the intestinal villi also affect the ability to digest lactose. Lactaid would help in this situation. For others, difficulty with dairy may be for other reasons. You can be blood tested for an allergy now. If...
  7. I'm sorry I missed your post too. At 31, I was told I would need an egg donor because my day 3 and day 10 fsh and something else were not where they should be. 3 years later, I was diagnosed with celiac, and started a gluten free diet. My periods became lighter and shorter and initially had less cramping (I have endometriosis). After 2 years Gluten free,...
  8. Thanks for the heads up. I've been missing my flax seeds lately. I eat them by the handfulls when a bag is in the house. I love that nutty flavor and it is Sooo nice on my digestive system. I was thinking of getting some on my next grocery trip to even out this pregnancy constipation. I guess I'll be doing some research too and probably buying more wild rice...
  9. You've gotten good advice from these two. Not everything will get better on a strict gluten free diet, but you are likely to see major improvements over time in your overall health. When I was first diagnosed, I didn't understand/believe how strict I needed to be (or how long it would take). Cross contamination cost me 3 months of continuing to feel crummy...
  10. I gained 20 lbs the first 18 months. I was hungry all the time and with every glutening, I get hungry again. Don't try to diet yet. Give your body time to absorb all those nutrients it has been missing. I told myself no dieting until the 2 year mark, and as it turned out, my weight plateaued and then started dropping between 18 and 24 months naturally. Eat...
  11. Well, I don't know if I should say congratulations or good luck. I'll say both. I don't have an answer about the tubes, but welcome to the club. I'm 13.5 weeks. How far are you? Did you just figure it out or have you known for a while. My ultrasound tech said she scanned a woman who thought she was 6 weeks and she was really 25.
  12. The blood test will work on you if you are consistently eating gluten. It will not work on the baby until it is older and eating gluten (maybe preschool, maybe preteen, maybe teen). The genetic test is just to see if you are predisposed to celiac (or you could have it on the baby and see if it is predisposed to celiac). It WON'T diagnose, but may help you...
  13. My recommendation is to spend a little time this weekend coming up with a weekly menu and grocery list that is gluten free for the whole family. They can always add a little bread or cereal if they are missing the gluten. For the next month or two until you start feeling more comfortable with shopping and cooking this way, the family can handle having a weekly...
  14. How is your fiber intake? Nuts and flax seeds help me get moving. I eat tons of fruit and a fair amount of veggies, but without some nuts or flax, my whole system runs slower.
  15. There are lots of brands that have great labeling policies. I can't remember the long list, but Kraft, Unilever, and Hormel are the 3 I rely upon because I remember them. They will clearly state the source if an item has gluten. For example (Modified food starch (wheat)). If they don't state wheat, rye, barley, oats, their products are safe. Unilever has...
  16. You could get genetic testing for celiac and see if you even carry the genes. While it is probably you have at least one, it is possible you have none and baby is no more at risk than the general population. I really think going gluten-free for your baby is wonderful. It will help your sanity if hubby keeps the cookies, muffins and cake out of the house....
  17. I'm not a mamma yet, but I wouldn't put a developing child on gluten or through the endoscopy just for the label. Why did the doc say he/she wanted the endo done? Are they looking for confirmation, or suspicious of something more. Just because medicine CAN do something, does not mean that it SHOULD do it. With that said, there may be very good reasons for...
  18. Thanks for the encouragement about the movement. Congrats McPhena! That is very cool about the heart rate monitor. I might look into one of those for fun. On the 12 week ultrasound, the little one didn't stop wiggling and was flipping up and down. Either my gas is getting worse or I'm feeling baby swimming around because now when I'm quiet and relaxed I notice...
  19. I bought buckwheat groats. I know I can turn them into a oatmeal like dish. What else do I do with them? I'm gluten-free/cf/egg free. Thanks for the hints. Food has gotten so mundane latey and I need to liven it up. Oh, tomatoes are on my suspicious list dispite passing allergy testing.
  20. A different thought came to my mind. Sometimes my migraines are accompanied by or exist only as auras. My auras have a pretty broad range including olfactory halucinations. I smell burnt things that are not really there off and on for days at a time every couple of months. Or the normal smell of things is off and smells burnt, rotton or chemically. Usually...
  21. This may be old news to many of us, but I thought it was a nice explaination of the biological relationships between various grains and gluten-free grain substitutes. I hope someone finds it of use. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I agree with McPhena, the best thing you can do is find a good pharmacy and get to know ONE of the pharmacists there. I had the best luck when I explained my situation, educated them on the monthly meds that I alread knew about and then asked them for the phone numbers of the manufacturers of any new med I was prescribed. I would give them the script, ask...
  23. I reached a point before my diagnosis, I couldn't stand to be around myself. First I was diagnosed with a milk allergy and cut out all dairy. That didn't do it, but when the celiac was diagnosed, things got a lot better over a 3-6 month period. I found I needed to stay away from dairy as well. I do not have a nut allergy, but find that for my body, peanuts...
  24. I'm sorry about the glutening. It's always an awful mistake. I get primarily neuro reactions starting 45 minutes after ingestion. It peaks at days 2 and 3 then gets tolerable by day 5-6. I still feel poorly for 2+ weeks, but it's manageable. I hope you are feeling better soon and just remember that the potty problems are helping to rid that poison from your...
  25. I've noticed that on some of the Ore Ida brand fries that in the bottom side of the bag near where the bottom side seam comes together gluten free is printed in small yellow letters. Not all of their products are gluten free, but their shoe strings and regular steak fries are (please double check me). I've found the gluten free confirmation in that little...
