  1. I made extras of dinner every night for lunch the next day. It was a little boring, but safe. I drank a good portion of my initial calories in the form of Protien shakes that agreed with me. Set aside what is "breakfast" food and what is "lunch" food. If it works for breakfast, it can be a good snack at 3:00. Who cares if you microwave an egg. Simple...
  2. We are about to decorate the baby's room. What building and art/craft supplies do I need to avoid for gluten. I know what to avoid for chemical fumes. We are thinking of putting a tree up in her room and toying with the idea of canvas wallpaper pasted to the wall. Another idea was to use a joint compound or mastic to make 1/4 inch 3D effect. I'm also thinking...
  3. Is the pizza pan/stone the same one you used prior to going gluten-free. I hope you figure out what is making him feel so poorly. He really is a trooper if he wants to keep trying pizza. I'm going to have to try your recipe because my hubby really misses good pizza now that we are gluten-free here.
  4. I just wanted to clarify that while the assistance with the cost of food may be less here in the US, there is a tax deduction available for us. Save your grocery store receipts and then get a comparison of what it would have cost for the same gluten items. Subtract the difference. If that totals more than 7.5% of your income, it can be used as a tax deduction...
  5. While I wouldn't describe my emotions or sensory sensitivities as extreme as yours, I will say that since going gluten free, my anxiety and depression has lifted and I can chuckle about some things that used to cause me a lot of anxiety. Prior to diagnosis (and with accidental glutenings), I was extremely sound/light/touch/smell sensitive. That has all decreased...
  6. I just moved to WI myself. I'm up in West Bend. On facebook, there is a group called Gluten-Free Milwaukee (I think). They post a little here and there about businesses and restaraunts in the area. Do any of you have a good gluten-free place to eat that you completely trust? I tried to go to Bonefish grill one day for lunch while shopping and learned...
  7. It sounds like a great appointment! Interesting to hear about some of the research being done out there. If I could do anything to avoid the accidental cross contamination, I would be first in line. I don't think I would ever sit down with a wheat PBJ sandwich though no matter how much they said a treatment would work. Hmmm. Now, if they figured out how to...
  8. I had chemical gastritis at one point from my medications. It was a boring burning sensation. NSAIDS, vitamins, and antidepressants were the culprit for me. Making sure I had a large snack or small meal and drank plenty of liquids with the meds made a difference as did switching to tylenol and chewable vitamins. If you are on meds of any kind, check with...
  9. I'm with the airborne reaction folks. I avoid the grocery store at times they might be baking. i used to have to avoid it all together. I've reacted to stuffing in a cafeteria, pizza in a staff room, and I've learned that if my extended family gets take out while I'm in the car, I need to roll down the windows for the ride home. Hot gluten seems to affect...
  10. I was sickened from home made split pea soup a while back. The peas did not list wheat, but we deduced they must have rolled off a shared line. So, now I would like to figure out if I can make split pea soup from either frozen or canned peas (I would prefer frozen due to sodium). I would also like to figure out if I can make a multibean soup from canned beans...
  11. I too was diagnosed with fibro before I got my celiac diagnosis. It has been 2 years and my symptoms are slowly improving. I still struggle with it every day. My uneducated thought is that the celiac caused it, and going gluten-free helps it, but the fibro is part of me now and isn't going to dissappear. I found trigger point injection and trigger point manipulation...
  12. I applaude you for taking charge of your health and looking into gluten inolerance/celiac disease as a cause. I'm unsure if you are currently eating a gluten filled diet and are planning on substituting in some glutenfree products in the hopes of feeling better or if you have been on a gluten free meat/potatoes/veggies diet and are planning on adding the...
  13. Pale white stool is also a gall bladder symptom. Get the celiac panel and ask for a GI referral for the gall bladder.
  14. Dixi said it all. Good luck with your gluten free trial and I hope it works for you.
  15. If you decide you want the celiac panel and the doctor says no, please ask them to make a note in your chart that you requested the celiac panel and they said no. I've never had to do this when I'm direct about what I want, but I like this idea for cutting through the run around you might get while diagnosing this disease with confusing symptoms. Yes, you...
  16. I took all my own food already prepared in a cooler to out of town relatives last year. I put everything in small disposable foil pans and heated them at the back corner of the oven covered with foil. I figured the microwave would be busy the last 10 minutes before the meal was served. It worked out great and I had left overs. I also made a dish to pass,...
  17. Canker sores plagued me from about the age of 6. They were one of the first symptoms to dissappear when I went gluten free. They also pop back up when I slip up. The mouth is part of the digestive tract. If you notice gluten is a trigger for canker sores, just imagine what is happening further down the GI system.
  18. The way I figure it, as Celiac's, we are thrust into the world of being high maintainence customers who tip very well. Be smart about where and WHEN you choose to dine. Be clear about what you need. Educate the wait staff, manager, and chef every stop at the table. Be courteous and tip well for the extra time and attention it takes for the staff to make sure...
  19. I agree with Raven. It sounds like CC to me. You are probably more sensitive than you could imagine. You will be OK at Disney as long as you keep your senses about you. I've eaten there with food allergies and am planning on going back soon with the celiac diagnosis and they are excellent at talking with you and doing everything right. Just speak up. I don...
  20. My winter/early spring blues always get me too. Looking back at my grades in school, I always had worse grades the middle two quarters. I'm certain it is Seasonal Affective Disorder too. I agree with the Vitamin D and the psychologist. finding the right antidepressant was as life changing for me as getting on the gluten-free diet. It took some time to find...
  21. Ahhh, but you can have resees peanut butter cups. I bet there is a gluten free cookie that can be paired with that for something just as good.
  22. Outback is one of my 3 safe restaraunts. I LOVE the dessert. It is served on their regular menue. When I get it to go, they send it with the chocolate sauce in a sealed little cup. I avoid the ice cream because of allergy. I've had many great experiences at Outback and keep going back to my local one. I would try one on the road as long as I had emergency...
  23. I'll be trying this one too. It looks great and I'm hoping it's worth making 2.
  24. I was fortunate with my morning sickness. I did find that the prenatals or even just multivitamins upset my stomach terribly. The OB recommended chewable or Gummy children's vitamins Double the dose. I did some reading and found that some of the chewables are OGF, but the many gummies are not. I ended up buying BelliBar or BellyBary Chewable multivitamins...
  25. I have a flexible spending health care account through my employer in the US. Each employer is different in what they will and won't allow, so check your own before contributing. The way a FSA works is that you put in your own money pre-tax. Then throughout the year or at year's end, you submit for the dollar amount with receipts for what you spent on medical...
