ARCHIVED Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce
Swimmr replied to EmilyR83's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get the one with no sugar added. Lots of stores don't carry it. I recently sent my husband out to get some the last UTI I had and he went to two different stores before finding it at the third. I drink it occasionally and no adverse effects. I think it is safe. I've seen that Welch's 100% grape juice is good too. -
BUMP Ok I did some research today for elimination diets. However I found contradictories from one site to the next. Meats That Are Safe: Lamb, halibut, orange roughy, tuna, snapper, wild salmon, crab, lobster, deer, duck, rabbit, goose, cornish game hens, clams, pheasant. The contradiction is shellfish; crab, lobster, fish in general Vegetables...

ARCHIVED Fruit (except Bananas) Causing Hunger
Swimmr replied to CGally81's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Apples have ALWAYS made me feel hungry! I used to complain to my mom about it as a kid and she's say that it was in my head. LOL But now she says apples do the same with her. This is why I don't eat apples. Bananas strawberry pineapple grapefruits and pears I'm fine with. I don't like oranges, but can drink orange juice as long as it's not on an empty... -
same here....I've never thought about it. of course I'm still learning and have yet found a doctor who looks into this sort of thing. Ugh. I am starting an elimination diet next week. I plan to get a probiotic and do that candida killing thing. I don't see the need for a doc right now seeing as how I'm doing a better job myself pinpointing things...

3 years...haven't made it a full year completely dedicated OMG in the last year several times...due to cross contamination or poor judgement. I have not but recently have had two UTI's back to back with some slight lower back pain. Cleared up with drinking 8 oz of cranberry juice 3 times a day and taking a cranberry extract pill...

ARCHIVED New Bread Recipes On A Budget!
Swimmr replied to amberlynn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My mom was buying all the different flours and the last time I went with her to the whole foods, I had one small basket of stuff and her's was full of flours...spending LOADS on all of it. Bobs Red Mill sells a flour blend for a certain price and you don't get that much. Bob's is expensive. Then they have a scoopable thing where you scoop out how much you... -
applesauce!!! replace it with applesauce. I have had cakes with applesauce in them and they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO good!

I get that gassy bloated upper tummy thing. Ive been getting it for as long as I can remember. Usually I would have to curl up in a ball, relax totally and wait. Anti-gas pills intensified the pain by like a million. I call in indigestion since I either pass gas for hours with no smell or I burp...sometimes both. One distinctive characteristic is my...

ARCHIVED Which Cookware To Keep, Discard?
Swimmr replied to Lynayah's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh geez I never thought about the cutting boards and plastic tupperware. My mother once read that teflon is a no no NOT because it's bad but because it absorbs stuff from glutenous stuff cooked on it and can get into any food cooked thereafter...but for how long I don't know or even if it's true in all cases. I too would like a followup on this. Hubby... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet And Relief Of Chronic Joint Pain
Swimmr replied to schicker45's topic in Sports and Fitness
I recently posted on a similar subject. Started in 08 with an unexplained pain ON my knee, or rather on the bone it seemed. Very weird and was gone the next day. Then the next one was my elbow. Next it was my right hip just like 4 months ago and appeared overnight and so intense I fell to the floor when I got out of bed and cried. I could put NO... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free Products Like Shampoo, Makeup
Swimmr replied to willabec's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Annnd I think I will have to as well. I have 30 days to decide. I am starting an elimination diet on Monday. The only thing that gives me DH (that I can tell) is wheat. I have a bump just outside the crease of my right arm. I had an itch and found three on the top of my butt. *sigh* It is an AMAZING product. I haven't had to use anything on my hair... -
There was an episode of Scrubs where one of the topics was to "Get to know the patient by reading the history before walking in and doing whatever needed to be done" Turk was to operate on a man who's foot was being removed. He jokingly asked why, and an assistant said, "Diabetes." It hit home to Turk because he told his wife he had it so he could snap...

ARCHIVED It's Just A Marketing Fad, Just Like Atkins!?
Swimmr replied to wantsomedammpizza's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
FEAR comes first, then once they find out it's DENIAL. My aunt. She will NOT go gluten free even though she is exibiting the same symptoms my mom did. She actually had a horrible break out of a rash (DH) and has had it several times since (three years ago). She'll do the gluten free pasta's, but still eats regular breads and such. -
ARCHIVED So Upset, Need Help With Vertigo
Swimmr replied to cbear6301's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My mother first self diagnosed herself after having some awful rash come up (dh) and went to three dermatologists before one said, "You might have Celiac." The first two docs told her she had scabes. Which in fact she did NOT. She is HIGHLY sensitive to ANY contamination what-so-ever. But she can eat Bojangles fried chicken. She thinks it's because its... -
ARCHIVED Pamela's Baking Mix: Anyone Get Reactions, Diarrhea?
Swimmr replied to Lynayah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I currently use Pamela's. I've made waffles, pancakes, cake loafs, batter for frying, gravies, bread, biscuits. All these I avoided for almost 2 years and I am finally able to enjoy a nice hot waffle on the weekend with my husband. My mom says she reacts to Pamela's but is confident it's the sea salt. She is reluctant to try it again. She buys... -

Any Woodwind Players Out There?
Swimmr replied to heatherjane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I play flute/piccolo. However the last time I picked it up I had no idea I had a problem with gluten/wheat intolerance. I figured I'd pipe up since it's always nice knowing who played woodwinds. Yay for woodwinds -
ARCHIVED It's Just A Marketing Fad, Just Like Atkins!?
Swimmr replied to wantsomedammpizza's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know exactly how it is... "don't worry about what they think or say" is what I hear. But for those who are like me, I care about it most times. Here at my workplace I think some of my coworkers think I'm crazy or I'm faking it for attention. Seriously would I fake something as serious as this?? I honestly had a guy say, "Can't you take a pill for it... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free Products Like Shampoo, Makeup
Swimmr replied to willabec's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just ordered a new hair-care shampoo/conditioner called Wen, by Chaz Dean (if you saw it on tv recently, yes I caved...) I looked at the ingredients. It has hydrolyzed wheat protein in it. I decided to use it anyways and knew that if I have a reaction I'll know I also have an allergy to wheat, along-side the intolerance (that comes from ingesting it... -
Hey I made some amazing chicken last night. It tastes great even re-heated today for lunch! Olive oil Garlic Rubbed Sage Rosemary Salt Clean and worry-free

I was told that a tell-tell sign of being "glutened" is if your stools are loose and float instead of sink. Is this true? Because my stools rarely EVER sink.

ARCHIVED Woodchuck Draft Cider
Swimmr replied to Swimmr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
there was a post about it. click here I can't find any info that's definite. But, I don't see any info saying it is NOT gluten-free, soooo...in that case I treat it as not safe. Woodchuck though DOES guarantee all their cider's are gluten-free...and are made in a gluten-free facility. That to me is safe
