My favorite way to do sweet potatoes is to either: 1. Put them in the microwave for about 8 minutes (for two regular sized) or until soft. Cut into wedges. Next melt as much butter as wanted with some brown sugar and cinnamon (I add allspice as well). Place wedges in a baking dish and pour over the butter mixture. At 350 degrees, bake for roughly 12...

ARCHIVED Cc, Need Proof It Is Real And Important.
Swimmr replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know if it's just me, but my best friends don't question me or think I'm hysterical when it comes to my own health. Maybe just a firm talk (regardless of how knowledgeable each of you are, putting medical background aside) and letting her know that she can have her opinions if she wants, but to please keep it to herself and if she needs proof... -
ARCHIVED Progresso Soups
Swimmr replied to celiackitcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ohhh wow! I didn't even think to look since Campbell's has wheat AND msg in it... Now I can make my yummy white goulosh! It's just hamburger, (rice) macaroni, with the cream of mushroom mixed in (with a pinch of garlic)...and add some extra fresh mushrooms to it. OMG, I'm so hungry now (can't eat this stuff till the end of my elim. diet though!) -
ARCHIVED Jim's First Gluten-free Body-for-life Challenge
Swimmr replied to jshelton999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
AWESOME!! Congrats! My mother did the BFL challenge back when I was a senior in highschool and into the summer afterwards. Wow, that's nearly 10 years ago She lost over 40 lbs! She looked like a fitness competitor with her 6-pack abs and biceps at 38 yrs old! -
Feeling better this morning. Hubby went out and got me some magnesium citrate last night. I had to wake up while sleeping to "go" I've been "going" all morning and I feel so much better! It's tinted red though, guessing it's because the mag cit was red. Not adding anything new yet. Not till I'm done with the antibiotics.

ROFL! I probably would have...stick it in the oven, dry it out a bit so it's not so soggy

ARCHIVED Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Swimmr replied to Googles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never had a "reaction" to them. I always have been told that the regular packages are ok, but the individual wrapped ones or the snack size ones (the ones that come in the halloween candy bags and such) are NOT ok and can be xcontaminated. That's my two cents. Here's a thread on it and a list of Open Original Shared Link (though I don't know... -
I react every time no matter how much I stress it at Olive Gardens. Even with the simplest of meals. We only go out to eat if there is a get together of some sort...and the last place I had a good meal. I got a steak and some mashed potatoes. I asked for everything plain...no salt, no seasoning and requested that my steak be kept separate from other steaks...

ARCHIVED Getting The Intestines Back Into Good Shape
Swimmr replied to IChaseFrisbees's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Never in my life have I ever heard or even would have thought of this. First reaction was but I suppose that makes alot of sense. I don't know if I could cope with having someone else's poo in me... -
ARCHIVED Asking A Chain Supermarket To Carry A Product.
Swimmr replied to Imanistj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For large chain I have found it's a bit difficult. At my local Food Lion I requested the betty crocker chocolate chip cookies and the chocolate cake mix. They had just the brownies and wasn't driving across town to the other Food Lion that was carrying the choc. chip cookies and yellow cake mix. I figured I could just ask and they'd get it. I did, but... -
The WHOLE thing? Wow... Yeah it's not like having a human eat your bread...you can yell at them and make them feel bad...make them learn from their actions, lol...but darn those spontaneous animals! Doesn't make you feel better to yell at them either. Sorry 'bout your bread...that sucks.

Ok today I have not been able to "go" ie #2. I am backed up and I keep feeling like I may have to soon, but can't. Twice I've tried and gotten out nothing but a pearl size "rock" and it's got mucous surrounding it. It was darker than brown too, not black, but in between. The ONLY thing different about my diet is the antibiotics. I think I will hold off...

ARCHIVED I Have Just Read Some Info That Dh Can Be Caused By Other Things With No Evidence Of Celiac At All
Swimmr replied to Glamour's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Ok so DH, I usually see it when I eat anything with wheat OR sometimes if I have a salted item, ie bacon, chips...which I limit frequently. But if I scarf down a piece of bread two days later my back and shoulders and butt have several spots. So it could be the salt in the bread OR it's from the wheat. I believe you can get DH when you ingest any gluten and... -
ARCHIVED I Lost It At A Luncheon Yesterday!
Swimmr replied to Wolicki's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That really is surprising that they had nothing planned. Out of 500 people I would guess there were at least 70 others who have an intolerance/celiac (unknowingly or knowingly). I mean I can't knock the cook for trying...but ALL veggies? C'mon. I suppose he did his best...removed all potential contaminates... I have to say I was quite impressed... -
ARCHIVED Smart Balance Omega Non-stick Cooking Spray
Swimmr replied to sunnybabi1986's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just found this for ya! It deals with alcoholic beverages, but none-the-less still made from a grain alcohol... There's plenty of gluten-free alcohol that's safe for people with celiac disease. Celiacs used to be told to avoid all grain alcohols -- for example, vodka, whiskey, rye whiskey, scotch -- but now the prevailing opinion is this: Grain alcohols... -
ARCHIVED Smart Balance Omega Non-stick Cooking Spray
Swimmr replied to sunnybabi1986's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been told no...because my question dealt with everclear and everclear is made from grains. I don't know how reliable that source is. I'm sure someone can shed some light. here is a thread about grain alcohols here on the board -
I definitely think the antibiotics are hurting my appetite. I couldn't even eat lunch. All I've had is those three hard boiled eggs. I'm heating up some broth I made from chicken the other night with some carrots in it. Hubby is going to grill some chicken. Hopefully the soup will kick up my appetite a bit. Shoot I have some b12, maybe I should start supplementing...

ARCHIVED Dove Chocolate Discoveries
Swimmr replied to casnco's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have, I think the "processed in a facility that contains wheat, etc." is more of a warning, like, you may or may not have a reaction. Luck of the draw, 50/50 chance... I love how I pick up a gluten free item, turn it over, search for the allergen info and see that warning. Then I say, "Oh CRAP! Are you SERIOUS?!" I don't do it anymore though. It ain... -

ARCHIVED The Whole Sordid Story, Near As I Can Figure Out
Swimmr replied to The Fluffy Assassin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to get some water TODAY. I have seen something about water before, but really didn't take it that seriously. I think I will now. Also my pets only get spurts of energy. Even before my female and male cats were fixed...especially my male. He is just so cranky and so lethargic. Not lazy. He reminds me of Eeyore. He gets the most excited an hour before... -
ROFL yeah, I could always cut off my ear... Well, had sinkers this morning, which is good...however greenish in tint...havn't eaten anything green though. I do know the antibiotic capsules are blue, but don't know the color of the contents. I may open one up later to see. I think they're also causing me not to have much of an appetite. I thought it...

ARCHIVED How Do Some Celiacs Put On Weight?
Swimmr replied to adm07's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I subconsciously thought I could pig out on the gluten free baked stuff and be ok....ummm, WRONG! lol If you eat less frequently, your body will hold on to whatever it is regardless if its gluten free or not. Your metabolism slows down and you store fat. Eat small portions just more frequently throughout the day to build your metabolism back up. A common... -
ARCHIVED Amenorrhea And Celiac
Swimmr replied to wantsomedammpizza's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It took me a year to get back regular again. I went without a cycle for several months right after coming off. I was on it for about 4 years. From mid 19 to 23. I've not been back on it since. I don't like what it did to me. Seems when I came off is when (as I look back) more of my celiac symptoms started.
