  1. I have never heard of corn on the cobb not being gluten-free but hopefully Richard will "weigh in" with his expert opinion soon... If you are feeding him frozen, check the label. -Kate
  2. I use the regular pie crust in Haggman's book - "Gluten Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Foods" which I think calls for vinegar but I just add a little extra water due to a yeast (hense no vinegar) intolerance. As for the butter, I use a palm oil solid instead of crisco or butter due to soy and dairy intolerances myself. It works fine and even friends didn't...
  3. I just found the Very Berry here and am hoping to use it for hiking/trail/snack food. I haven't even had a chance to try it but at this point, with hiking season (for our family) almost here, I need something fast. -Kate
  4. I didn't have any concerns about passing food problems through my breastmilk with my kids - however, caffee goes through--I was told alchol does too. My oldest had problems if I ate anything with cinnamin or processed meats, he would get horribly sick. He is now 14 and still cannot eat those foods. I would assume it goes through...Kate
  5. I am the only one gluten-free in our family of 5. I have a husband, two sons (one with stomach problems but neg. test for celiac disease), and a step daughter. I got rid of all regular flour and flour type mixes like bisquick that we kept on hand for pancakes. I keep all my flours on hand for baking and cooking. I have a separate shelf in the pantry for...
  6. I react the same to corn as I do to gluten but can tolerate "VERY SMALL AMOUNTS" of corn starch in my meds. Anything more and I have problems. -Kate
  7. I take multi vitamins (don't care for the liquid), plus 500 C, 1000 calcium, and the B vitamin-complex/complete. Blood sugar is a problem but I keep that pretty controlled because of a yeast intolerance too which elimates almost everything sweet and I eat protein with most carbs for balance. Discussed with dietition. I have been gluten-free since July...
  8. I have problems with fatigue and upping my dose of vitamin B complex complete to two 1,000 percent pills per day helps - however, as soon as I am active, I go back to naps and complete exhaustion again. I was considering talking to my doc about shots but don't know if they might or might not help. I rearranged my office yesterday morning, had to take...
  9. I would need to go home to check the receipe on the dumplings. I know the egg noodles almost by heart but not those...Kate
  10. I take multi vitamins but I have problems with B vitamins - when I drop down below 2,500% of the recommended daily dose to 1,500%, I need naps in the evening, I don't have the energy to get any work done during the day, etc. and if I ignore those warning signs, I develop sores on my tongue and in my mouth...when I remember to take an extra 1,000% pill (gluten...
  11. I have used a receipe out of the Gluten Free Comfort Foods book by Hagman that works great - that book also has a good egg noodle receipe. I kept checking it out of my local library until I received one for Christmas this year...nobody could tell they were different from the old bisquick ones. -Kate
  12. I also want to know where in Denver since I have family in the area - they might be able to pick up mixes when they fly out for a visit...once you get set up. -Kate
  13. I have since figured out that my fever is usually triggered by yeast - not gluten. It was an amazing discovery and I only had this problem since I figured out the triger when I eat fruit that is ripe or sweet desert that has not been refridgerated and it "hits" me again. I was surprised to read about the low temp possibilities - my youngest son, the one...
  14. Ruffles has a new kind of chip out and I have not had too many problems with those and I am pretty sensitive. They are Ruffles Sea Salted Reduced Fat and you can find them in the health food section of the regular grocery store - they are made with sunflower oil. Also, I can go for weeks without finding them so now, when they do get them in, I will buy 4...
  15. 1. sex: Female 2. age: 38 3. ethnic group: Caucasian 4. age at which you were diagnosed: Self-diagnosed between 32-38 YO 5. How did you feel when you were diagnosed? Depressed because of lack of food choices, Great because no longer so sick 6. Did you have health problems in childhood? Some food isses that were never identified. 7. How well...
  16. Also, if anyone has a receipe that works, please post. I have tried 3 different biscuit receipes and they look OK and don't taste too bad, but they are just FLAT - they don't raise AT ALL! I am a decent cook, I don't usually mess up this bad, this consistantly...please help! Also no gluten, soy, garbonzo, corn, yeast, milk products, peanuts/almonds...
  17. I have been tested for just about everything and it all came back negative (of course that was after I was gluten-free too). Anyway, my doc finally suggested a food diary that also includes all symptoms. I created an area to show when/if I was running a fever, joint pain, stomach problems, you name it and that helped the most. The bad part is, I did it...
  18. I use two different nasal sprays - one of which is astelin and I also use the Patenol eye drops. I haven't had problems with either of these--but that is just me. Have you tried just Tyleno PM? It has a decongenstant which is not as strong as benadryl - I use those on top of my allergy meds (or benadry if I get really bad but not for long due to side effects...
  19. The Singular makes me sick but I don't know what kind of starch is in it...for me, too corn bothers me. Look for it on the Web and look for inactive ingredients. -Kate
  20. Mel, Allegra 180 has corn and lactose but not enough to really make me sick enough not to take them. Also, Zyrtec has no corn, lactose, etc. it appears to be the safest but always check the Web site to look for inactive ingredients. I don't have a problem with my allegra but do have a problem with Benadryl so that must have more lactose and starch... I...
  21. I have fatigue like that but only when I eat yeast products...knocks me out cold within an hour. The effects diminsh after a time but linger for days and can include a fever, fuzzy thinking, lethargy, etc. None of my other intolerances (corn, gluten, lactose/casein, soy, peanuts, almonds, garbonzo, or MSG) "hit " me like this. -Kate
  22. Most of the cooking is gluten-free except for sides and sandwhiches. I am the only gluten-free in my household of 5 and the wooden utensils are only used on gluten-free food, the non-stick skillet is used for only gluten-free foods, we have one small skillet for grilled cheese sandwhiches. Everyone else eats regular bread and crackers so I am psycho about...
  23. I discovered I also have a problem with Corn. Try the receipe with Arrowroot flour instead and see what happens. -Kate
  24. My doc seems to think that my mouth sores and tongue problems may actually be a B deficiency. I take (1,000% each pill) a B Complex Complete twice a day and then they get better for a while - along with my mulit vitamin. Someone suggested that it may be due to citric acid but that level stays pretty constant in what I eat/drink and the sores come and go....

    ARCHIVED Indiana Doctors?

I think that depends on your insurance more than anything but the times I have been to him - I DID have a referal but I don't think you have to unless your insurance requires you to... -Kate
