    ARCHIVED Indiana Doctors?

Dr. Bhandari with IMA in Bloomington - there is also a celiac disease Support meeting tonight...I plan on attending for the first time tonight (schedule problems before this) The other people in Bloomington I have talked to also highly recommend Bhandari. Even nurses...Kate
  2. I agree with everything said!!!! Well put...I will add my 2 cents though... We buy regular food and gluten-free food, however all baking is done gluten-free which tastes a little different, a little chewy, etc. My kids miss "real pancakes" or "real brownies" - however, when I was making gluten-free food and keeping it for just me (I am the only one in...
  3. I made my own cards because the list of forbidden foods for me is quite long. When I order food out (only after I have called in advance to see if they can prepare for me--some refuse), I explain that I have many food "issues" and hand the waiter my card. As they are reading the Gluten=NO FLOUR PRODUCTs, etc., I explain that I require my food prepared in...
  4. I have been checked for Krohn's disease, IBS w/ food intolerances is the final dx. Thanks for the help - by the way, I don't have any other problems that people with candid (sp?) have - I have similar reactions to soy, gluten, peanuts, etc. the yeast just makes me tired and run a fever on top of those symptoms. I feel drugged for days. The question...

    ARCHIVED Red Lobster

CMOM: Good to know you are near B-Town - where and are you planning on attending the celiac disease Support Group meetings? I eat at: - The Runcible Spoon on 6th - very understanding about food interolerances, great for breakfast - Chili's - Yogi's on 10th & Indiana - Red Lobster (new) - Outback (but I like Texas better) - Texas Roadhouse...
  6. OK, I know this is away from gluten intolerance, which I have, but everyone is always so helpful, I was hoping you would have ideas about yeast. Well, I can have some types of yeast because tequilla and rum don't bother me : ); however, grain and fruit "yeast" do bother me. I have had to eliminate almost all fruit from my limited diet (no gluten, lactose...

    ARCHIVED Red Lobster

Well, I just had a GREAT experience at Red Lobster in Bloomington Indiana. I got lucky with our waiter. I didn't call ahead (which I always do), I warned the guy when we sat down I had really bad food intolerances, and if he couldn't find any food for me to eat, no problem, I would just have a salad. Well, while I worked with the bartender to get a drink...
  8. My theory is that the gluten intolerance "masks" all these other intolerances and once that is gone from yor diet, the others appear more prominant. Again, just a theory...Kate
  9. My son, 13, will be 14 in just over a month has problems, not with gluten (not yet) but with cinnamon and all processed meats. He tested w/blood test as not Celiac. He has gotten to the point where he completely avoids ALL cinnamon but he comes home from school after eating pepperoni pizza and is sick for days. He knows, it is his choice. He is chosing...
  10. Well, I don't know about kids, but it took me weeks to months to fully feel better. There should be an immediate response but the full effect could take some time. I still have bouts after almost 6 months of gluten-free. This is a great board and I am sure you will get responses from all the wonderful parents online...welcome. -Kate
  11. I also use the intolerance/allergy quote (mine actually are intolerances) but it is the "allergy" that sticks out. Resturaunts are much more careful and I don't mind the little difference, so long as I don't have to eat that food. Most people don't seem to mind when I go out for a family gathering that I am chosing NOT to eat where they are...depending on...
  12. I am still debating on whether or not to call ahead for our small department holiday party where it will be very noticed when I don't eat. If I call and let the boss's wife know, I know she will insist on cooking something special for me and with all my food issues, I am still afraid that there will be contamination and I will get sick later. She is wonderful...
  13. I have been gluten-free since July 2004, I have since eliminated soy, garbonzo, yeast, corn, vinegar, peanuts, almonds, and wine. I eliminated lactose/casein and MSG about 5+ years ago. I continue to become more sensitive to all of these items. In fact, some things like banana chips I can no longer eat and they were fine a couple of months ago, I attribute...
  14. I like Ricola myself...Kate
  15. Well, that might explain my reactions to wine then...I run a fever when I drink wine, the same but to a lesser extent as to when I eat anything made with yeast! Thanks!!!! -Kate
  16. I miss cooking in cast iron skillets...I use a teflon skillet now that "occasionally" gets used for other foods but we clean that really well--the use for non-safe-for-me-foods is extremely limited and usually done by accident. I have yet to suffer a reaction afterwards though and I am PARANOID!!!!! One of the few items on my Christmas list is a new cast...
  17. Ditto...I had several removed a few years ago (at age 35). My dad has had some removed and he has no problems, unlike me. My before and after was the same...Kate
  18. An intolerance can also mimic a LOT of the symptoms of celiac disease (among many other diseases). So only testing can diagnose (sp?) Celiac Disease. An allergy causes immediate reaction that be diagnosed through an allergist. My docs thought I had rhumatoid arthritis (among a few other things which have all been ruled out) until my pain went away after...
  19. I have seen this statement and have wondered the same thing. All my tests for celiac disease came back normal/negative. My allergy tests have shown these are not "true" allergies so I look at them as intolerances. My docs have all said that I will never be able to eat these foods again. Wow that I have figured this all out and feel better. Right now,...
  20. OK, I read the diet - I just avoid the yeast and attribute it to another intolerance. I am not trying to kill off an overgrowth in my system so I still eat sugars and carbs. -Kate
  21. Well, I avoid vinegar and vodka since they use yeast in the making of these - I had already been avoiding them since I have problems when I eat these then I discovered the yeast connection and realized that is probably why. I don't drink beer because of the gluten and yeast connection. I notice some problems when I eat tomatoes (I think they have similar...
  22. This looks like something I can eat - that is if someone knows of a good "replacement" for garbanzo bean flour I don't know that I have seen fava flour in my little home town. A replacement that does not include soy...thanks. If not, I will just experiement on my own like the rest of the baking....thanks! Kate
  23. There is a mayo made with canola oil vs soybean oil...at the health food store. Make your own broth - chicken & beef - I have yet to find one that doesn't make me sick and I attribute it to soy. WestSoy Plain Rice milk has no soy. Soy is in almost as much as gluten...all those gluten-free mixes contain soy flour too... Good luck and it really isn...
  24. I found one at GNC - Liquid Mega Multi Vitamin - gluten-free, SF, CF, Yeast Free, etc...There is also a brand that is "safe" (always read the ingredients!!!) at health food stores but I forget the name. -Kate
  25. I made my own using a spreadsheet after looking online and not finding anything I really liked since none were really made to track all that food and the symptoms too. I didn't even realize some of the changes until I went to sum up my own findings and draw conclusions for my doctor after a month of tracking my food. That is when everything finally started...
