    ARCHIVED Chili's

I eat at Chili's on a regular basis and almost never have a reaction. The wait staff know us, the cooks know us, even if the wait staff mess up, the cooks had it right to begin with and the wait staff is a newbie who needed to learn...Of course, we tip well. One note, their pre-cut veggies are soaked in soy sauce so order without onions (and I would assume...
  2. I have one more category to add: Those that listen but don't really believe or think you are crazy/making it up My immediate family, those that live in my house, all fall into the fully believe and listen category, everyone else, including my parents and in-laws, seem to fall somewhere else, with a few exceptions.
  3. I know my husband will "bow out" of some food if we are low and just enough for me because he CAN eat anything, however, most of the time we share - except for some foods I label as just mine like if I make me a pizza then the family a pizza. ALSO, we BOTH cook, almost equally...he does more in the summer when he has more time off from his job and I do...
  4. I heard that there is a passover butter (Mother's I think) that is supposed to be dairy and soy free but I didn't find it in my town. Everything I have found has soy...I use canola or olive oil for baking and I have not had any problems. However, if a receipe calls for solid instead of melted then you need to use a solid oil to replace it with. Also...
  5. I have been looking too but so far, they all call for yeast of some type. There are yeast free cookbooks available but I don't have any yet. Ener-G has a one that you can buy or a mix you can buy - it looks like you can buy online too if it is not available in your area. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link These two appear potato...
  6. Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with sauteed veggies (in olive oil) with bacon (which I can't believe I can still eat) Morning Snack: cereal (rice/buckwheat/EnjoyLife) with plain rice milk or an EnjoyLife snack bar Lunch: Left over dinner - grilled or baked meat, veggies, and rice or fried potatoes (in olive oil) with veggies--weekends on the boat bring chicken...
  7. Actually that was the hardest to figure out, I knew I had a problem with vinegar in all forms so I eliminated that. I finally realized I had a problem with yeast when all my gluten-free homemade yeast breads kept giving me identical reactions, regardless of which receipe I used. So, I did the test (eliminate then add back in just the one change) and sure...

    ARCHIVED Eating

We eat out on a fairly frequent basis and the places we go to often even recognize us and I almost never worry any more. We do cook, a LOT, because I use leftovers for lunch the next day or the following. It is easier than eating out all lunches rather than the occasional lunch. It is also cheaper (if you don't eat fast food). I also occasionally miss...
  9. Snack in the car between the church and reception location (if changing), usually there is salad and plain meat which I have done OK with. Also instead of trying to stuff a tiny purse used for these events, I have asked wait staff for lemons for my salad. Sit and chat the rest of the time and enjoy the company...
  10. I have discovered that I cannot have any alcohol made with grain products and I also cannot have vinegar. However, mine is due to a yeast intolerance. I CAN drink tequilla, rum, and potato vodka though and they should have yeast but they still don't bother me...don't know why, just assume it is the grain connection. I also must stay away from wine (I can...
  11. I don't know about Pamala's cookies, I found one Lemon Snap in a yellow package that I can eat but I have no idea about sugar. I limit my sugar intake due to being pre-diabetic but don't avoid it completely - however, I almost never eat sweets unless I make a brownie mix or buy the package of cookies then I eat one every day until they are gone or they are...
  12. I don't see myself as sick, at least not because of the food issues. In fact, I usually feel healthier than I ever have before (except for some troubling problems which the docs can't quite figure out and all the tendonitis in my hand, wrists, legs, etc. and rotator cuff problems). People at work sometimes make comments about my strange diet and how I...
  13. I react to very small amounts of most of the foods I have intolerances to - and I watch my meds & vitamins for all those ingredients. I find that I can tolerate some lactose in my meds and, I occasionally have problems that I cannot link to a contamination but I rarely think it is the meds. I did give up Benadryl products because they were bothering me...
  14. We just bought a new gas grill and keep it completely free from all the foods I cannot eat - there is no way anyone will clean it every time - I refuse, the hubby won't do it, it is just safer...we do make sure we heat it up very hot at first and "scrub" the grill with the brush before we actually start cooking for the night.
  15. Richard, I think it was something for me (we just discovered and I asked for yours)...thanks. PS - I have been on vacation to the Smokey Mountain National Park so I was late looking for this...
  16. I just started reading and developing my own rubs and salts - they have made a WORLD of difference - thanks. If you have any you would care to share, I would really appreciate (family uses BBQ sauce at table now, husband used to use it during cooking).
  17. I find that some people, not just men (they do happen to be in the majority on this though), are that way. My husband, when he had to have a wisdom tooth pulled, refused to read the dentist instructions about what to do until I came home from work at the end of the day to tell him what he is supposed to be doing. HOWEVER, when it comes to my health...
  18. I just discovered Rice Dream Ice Cream and I can eat the vanilla, along with EnjoyLife chocolate chips, boy, I never ate much ice cream before but now that I found this! well, I have put some weight on in the last 2 weeks. I just can't seem to stop eating it for desert, EVERY NIGHT, even when I am still full from dinner. This too shall run its course...
  19. I don't call the chain headquarters when I need to confirm a place is safe for me to eat at - I call the local resturaunt and talk with the manager and chef/cook. They will often work with me when the headquarters would likely say no... I have great service at several local chains because of this: Chilis being the number one we go to...last time, our waiter...
  20. There is one on this site if you do a search and then you REALLY search through those that works for pizza dough that I use. I have the recipe written down at home but I got it off of here. I also just picked up Chebe pizza mix that is gluten-free, YF I think kiniknicks (sp????) also has a gluten-free, YF bread mix that works great (I can't remember the...
  21. Corn gives me similar but less severe symptoms as gluten, gas, dh, bloated, etc. However, unlike a lot of the other foods, I can tolerate very minor amounts of corn such as corn starch, as long as I don't have too much. Anything with corn syrup really does me in though and I don't eat any "straight" corn products or use any corn meal.
  22. Has anyone had experience eating in the area? We will be camping and therefore cooking a lot of my meals but a meal out several times while there would be nice. We will be staying in Townsend, TN for hiking in the park (about 18 miles from Gatlinburg) but going to Gatlinburg so my SD can go shopping and thought that would be a good time to eat out too...
  23. Most vodka is now made from grain. They bother me but I suspect that is due to my yeast intolerance for anything made with grain and regular yeast (I can drink tequilla and that has been fermented but doesn't bother me). Potato vodka is more difficult to find and kind of expensive. I just found one in our little town but haven't tried it yet. I was very...
  24. I recently went to Chili's (I have called and have talked to the manager and cooks so I know I can eat there) and had the BEST resturaunt experience to-date. Our waiter recognized me, reminded me he is also a cook there, took my order, and when he brought it out a while later (all with instructions on HOW to cook my food and on WHAT, etc), he explained...
  25. Put a cooler in your car and keep a bag of snacks. If you can't get to the car between events, then carry a larger purse/bag to keep with you. I have the same issues - I take tons of food with me everywhere we go, just in case we are out longer than expected. You should see me prepare for a couple of hours on the lake! you would think we were going for...
