  1. How long has it been since your husbands vasectomy? It is not very common but the vas, depending on the technique, can recanalize(grow back together). As we all know it only takes one.
  2. I am not a drinker by any means. Occasionally I would have a beer or two or a glass of wine but not very often. I have been going to our local Earthfare and have been intrugued by the gluten free beer. This was my third visit to the store so I was curious and got a six pack. I waited for my husband to get home so we could try it together. I was suprised...
  3. I eat them with no problems.
  4. I had already suspected the possibility of celiac 4 months before I asked to be tested. I still was suprised when the doctor told me that the blood work was positive and I needed to see a GI doctor. I was in shock. Then I thought to myself "dummy if you did not think it was a possibility why did you ask for the test?" Anyway it still was a shock. I had...
  5. I do not cook two separate meals. Breakfast is pretty much what everyone wants. Lunch depends. My husband comes home from work to eat while I am usually sleeping( I work nights). My oldest eats lunch at school and my youngest eats lunch at daycare. On the days we are all home for lunch sometimes we all eat the same thing and sometimes not. I always...
  6. Taken from wikipedia: " Faecal occult blood is a term for blood present in the faeces that is not visibly apparent. In medicine, a faecal occult blood test is a check for hidden (occult) blood in the stool (feces). Conventional faecal occult blood tests look for heme. Newer, modern tests look for globin." No I didn't have any problems from the polyp...
  7. FYI I just remembered and thought of this. I got the idea from my pediatrician when my youngest was getting a horrible red raw rash on his bottom. I was worried it was yeast but it wasn't. The ped told me since the baby was stooling frequently that the acidity from it was irritating the skin. He told me to put liquid antiacid (like liquid mylanta or...
  8. My PCP is not to keen on running tests. He wanted to give me proton pump inhibitors when I was complaining of the acid reflux/heartburn. I insisted on an UGI first, just to make sure nothing was amiss. Even after it came back normal I still refused the meds. I knew that something was wrong and that the meds were just a bandaid. It wasn't until I started...
  9. The metal in your back should not interfere with an ultrasound. On CT it will cause what we call "streak artifact". Different tissues, organs, air, bone, etc. have different mass and x-rays penetrate through them differently. The more mass (dense) a material is the less x-rays can penetrate or go thru them. So bone would stop more of the x-rays while...
  10. Good advice for Sin3str0. I have had my vit D checked and it was 17 ish. My endocrinologist has me taking 50,000 iu in a capsule once a week. I can't believe the difference that the gluten free diet and the latest addition of the vitamin D has had on my fatigue and pms. Both are sooo much better! The vitamin D really made an inpact on my energy levels...
  11. So weird. I usually have cold hands and feet too. I always thought it was weird that if I am on the computer that my left hand will be fine my right hand when using the mouse will be ice cold.
  12. I feel for all of you that have relationship strains and job losses. I was fortunate to only have mild symptoms, heartburn and chronic iron deficiency. Some of my other vague symptoms I thought were normal. I think people today don't value "for better or worse and in sickness and in health". My husband is very supportive and was glad I found the answers...
  13. I am so sorry you must be really frustrated by now. It sounds like the organization as a whole has really dropped the bomb. This is so not acceptable. I am certain that there are some good people there, but it sounds like they(the instution) has something to "prove" and unfortunately it has not been in your daughter's best intrest. Is it possible that...
  14. I forgot to answer your question on if you could ask for the nonionic contrast. My experience has been that most places I have worked only offer the nonionic as standard. But, this is not always the case. When I was in college at my clinical site(this was back in 1992-1994) the radiology department had both. It was their standard to use the ionic unless...
  15. When you had the CT scan and had the itchy rash how long was it after they injected you? Usually any type of reactions happen withing the first 15-20 min. However delayed reactions have been reported. The shellfish problem in and of its self is not a contraindication as stated on one of the links I found and from professional opionins from radiologists...
  16. Disclaimer: This is not medical advice in any form. Talk to your physician for the most updated and accurate information. Here is another link I found for you to read: Open Original Shared Link Here is a quote from the article about oral contrast: "REACTIONS TO ORAL CONTRAST Rarely, anaphylactoid reactions have been attributed to oral contrast...
  17. I am an x-ray/CT tech. If you were going for a routine upper GI series you would drink barium sulfate. If you were to have a barium enema then barium is introduced via a tip thru the rectum. In cases where a blockage is suspected, a person is a possible canidate for surgery, post op, and some other reasons, iodinated based oral/rectal contrast is used...
  18. I know someone that has raynaud's disease so here is a link... Open Original Shared Link
  19. While I can sympathize with everyone's frustration, I too agree with mom.on.the.go. Maybe you can take this experience and turn it into something constructive... increasing awareness. I was curious one day and went up to our cafeteria and asked one of the dietary employees if they were able to accomidate patients and visitors with gluten free diets. She...
  20. Ask the nurses next time to get the dietician and the manager of the dietary department for you to speak with personally. This way the dietician is aware of your dietary needs and the manager can make sure the staff preparing the food is done correctly. I hope this helps. Since I was diagnosed there has been a lot more awareness in the hospital I work...
  21. I just started on my second box of the honey kix and don't seem to have any trouble either. I don't think I am overly sensitive either. I think I was glutened in Jan. by some coconut macaroons I was eating. I don't know if it was something in the artifical flavorings that got me or cross contamination. The two times I know I was glutened I had really...
  22. I just made this. I did not have the potatoes listed but got online and found out what they were and appx how many servings in a container. I used instant potatoes as a substitute. The only thing I would change is add more onion. I love onions! It turned out great. Nobody else in the family would eat it so I brought it to work for the weekend. I'll...
  23. Let me know how the banana spice cookies turn out with the better batter flour. I have not made a batch with it yet. I've been trying to cut back on baking so much. My husband keeps telling me we are going to get fatter! He has liked everything except gluten free pizza crust (can't say I blame him) and the pancakes made from better batter. He loved...
  24. "you need to start the 50,000iu therapy today" My vitamin D is not as low as yours but i think it was around 17 ish. My Dr. put me on 50,000 iu of vitamin D also. I take one pill once a week. I personally have not noticed any problem with taking it. I don't follow up with either my gi or endocrinologist until April so I am assuming I am to keep taking...
