ARCHIVED Thyroid Overmedication
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has dealt with this. I don't think I will ever to be able to get off thyroid meds completely, but at least I will be able to decrease my dosage. This just reinforsed to me that the diet it working. I was getting in a rut with food lately and craving things I shouldn't. But, alas I did not give into my yearnings... -
ARCHIVED For Those Not So Sensitive Celiacs
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just went back to eating the hormel naturals and I can buy them at walmart. I have been having some tummy trouble lateley and definately don't think it is gluten related. I believe it to be related to my recently discovered thyroid overmedication or I have been over doing it on dairy. I tolerate dairy to a point and if I get "too" much it bothers me... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Overmedication
Roda posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been having problems with tachycardia, insomnia, increased appetite, and have lost a couple of pounds. The other day I went for a routine gyn appt. and had a bad tachy episode at the office. The doctor sent me up for a stat thyroid pannel to r/o too much thyroid medication and an ekg (I've had proplems not related to thyroid). Much to my suprise... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Do For A Living?
Roda replied to Bosque's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been an X-ray/CT technologist for 14+ years and I also did mammography for 15 months. I am currently working 12hr night shifts to accomidate my boys' school schedule. I am contemplating going back to school, thinking about nutrition, or getting back into mammography. The cafeteria is not open at night so I bring all my own food. Some of my coworkers... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Roda replied to Crystalkd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Organic Cream of Mushroom Soup by Health Valley. It is not condensed so when I use it over a roast I have to thicken it up for gravy. The taste to me is better than the Progresso but I think it might be a little more expensive. My husband can't talk enough about the flavor, he loves it! ARCHIVED Husband Trying To Quit Smoking
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well here is a little update. After a minor set back with smoking some regular cigarettes, my husband has finally quit. He is pretty happy. He said that his chest does not feel as heavy any more. He is still on the e-cigarette and probably will be for awhile. He plans to cycle down when he feels the time is right. I am starting to get optimistic about... -

ARCHIVED When Did You First Start Noticing Symptoms?
Roda replied to fnord's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My problems began in Feb. 2006. I was 33 yrs old and was still breastfeeding my then 14 mo. old son (I'm now 36). I started having really bad episodes of tachycardia that landed me in the ER twice. I was worried that they were going to have to shock my heart back into a slower rythym. It came on all of the sudden. It was not caused by my thyroid meds... -
ARCHIVED Most Important Vitamins To Watch Or Supplement For Coeliacs
Roda replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are a lot of people more knowledgeable about this than I am. I am one who hates to take pills. I am on levothyroxine and cytomel for my thyroid. I have also been taking Vitamin D 50,000 iu once a week and am due to have this rechecked soon. I will probably continue to supplement with a much lower dose of vitamin D once the stores are back up. I... -
My brother recently told me about mesquite flour because he was looking to incorporate it into his bbq rub. He told me it was gluten free. I have looked it up and done some reading and it sounds like a wonderful addition to gluten free baking and cooking. I have not ordered any yet and was wondering if anyone has used it and how you liked it. I saved...

ARCHIVED Corn Chex Is Now gluten-free!
Roda replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm in Eastern TN and found the gluten free Corn Chex at our local walmart. -
For me it was not that bad going gluten free. For the most part we always cooked at home. A few days after finding out I went through the pantry and fridge and either marked things that I could not have or gave away the unopened stuff to neighbors and the food bank. I never craved pasta, I do like it, but it was not hard to give up. I was not even a...

Corn chex is gluten free now too. I just bought a box today at Walmart. Check your lables though since both might be on the shelves still. There is another thread in I think the products section on this very subject if interested. -
ARCHIVED For Those Not So Sensitive Celiacs
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for the replies. I just think I'm going to give up salami for awhile. My husband who is a butcher and meat manager at one of our local stores, does not think its a problem. He really tries to look out for me and gets me product information. I probably just ate too much in one day. Of course I have been around a lot of people with the... -
ARCHIVED For Those Not So Sensitive Celiacs
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will agree that reflux/hearburn does not neccessarily mean something was cross-contaminated or contained gluten. I have had problems with red and green koolaid and It is gluten free. I also get it with salmon patties that I make with all safe ingredients. However, the salami is in question where everything else I have been eating at the same time is... -

ARCHIVED Any German Shepherd Owners?
Roda replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't know much about the breeders except you want a reputable one and I think good ones will offer a statement of some kind about the hips. We are new owners of a wonderful german shepherd. We adopted him from our local animal rescue about eight months ago. He is about 2 years old and had been recently neutered when we got him. My husband's mother...
