ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have decided I am going to continue to be oat free. I had another reaction to them. I was really hoping I could eat them. Oh well! -
I really am beginning to think I am nagging all the time to my husband. I live in a shared household where I am the only one gluten free. Everything appeard to be going alright, until recently when I did some observation during my time off. My husband has his area on the counter that he can do his and the boys' gluten stuff. They have their own shelf...

ARCHIVED Some More Freezing Questions
Roda replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The only thing I have frozen with rice in it was soup and when thawed and reheated it still tasted pretty good only a little mushy. Try something small first to test it out. I have also frozen soup with quinoa in it also with good results. I have never froze many "meals". I usually have frozen leftover soups, breads, muffins, cookies, pancakes etc. Mix... -
ARCHIVED Will Body Fat Decrease When On Gluten-free Diet?!
Roda replied to Vlo1980's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I actually have gained weight since being diagnosed and I was slightly overweight before diagnosis. It really sucks. For me I think it is consuming alot more things with rice etc and my exercise intolerance from tachycardia and shortness of breath even with minor exercise. I have chronic low ferritin and think that is my problem. Alot of people say they... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Paste Under Ancient Wallpaper
Roda replied to PattyBoots's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I was growing up I lived in a house that my grandparents and great grandparents lived in. Not only could lead be an issue but so could asbestos. The siding on that house had it in and my dad had to dispose of it properly when he did remodeling. I don't know how long ago they stopped using it, but electric wires and other stuff could be wrapped in... -
Thanks for the replies. If I get froggy I'll try some of those recipes. I was suprised to find at Food City Bobs Red Mills pancake mix and a Maplewood Groves mix. I usually stay away from Bobs stuff because I'm not a bean flour lover, but this one did not have it in. I made some and they were pretty good. I still have yet to try the other one.

I tend to disagree with this. I have been taking the D2 rx since Jan. My vit D level was around 17 and by Apr. it was 47. It probably is higher now so it does work and I don't have a wooden head. All joking aside here are a couple of other threads with links to support the vit D2 and the one article was published this year. https://www.celiac...

ARCHIVED Do I Need To Have The Biopsy Done?
Roda replied to pinksmashing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow I am impressed your doctor suggested it. Many of people find it rather difficult if not impossible to get the testing done. I researched it my self because of my vague symptoms and the fact I have hashimoto's. I asked for my blood work but at least my doctor was willing to order it for me. I had the egd with biopsy done also. I personally wanted... -
ARCHIVED Article On A Link Between Low Vitamin D And Asthma
Roda posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I found this article while looking into vitamin D recently. As alot of us celiac's have low vitamin D and other deficiencies, so I thought this was interesting. I have noticed that some people on here have asthma also and thought I would pass the info along. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED If Your Kid Is "glutened" Should You Consider Vaccines?
Roda replied to inskababy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like you are a well informed person and I suspect this was not a decision you made lightly. My boys do not have any issues or allergies that vaccines would cause problems for. Of course there is always a small risk to everything and you have to weigh the pros and cons. I am thankful neither one of them has had problems with any of their vaccines... -
I have been having a terrible time with making pancakes. We often have them for supper. I do not like nor want to purchase premade ones. I really prefer to use flours that are a substitute cup for cup that the xanthan gum is already in it. At first I used Tom Sawyer Flour and had pretty good luck with my own pancake recipe. I then ordered Better Batter...

ARCHIVED Dentist? Will Just Any Do?
Roda replied to g1gg1e's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have always had great experiences with dentists and we go faithfully every 6 months. I started taking both my boys to my regular 6 month checkups even before they started going themselves. The dentist would let them sit in the chair and show them the tools. They also watched me get my cleaning and check ups. By the time they were both two they were... -
ARCHIVED If Your Kid Is "glutened" Should You Consider Vaccines?
Roda replied to inskababy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not going to criticize as I believe this is a very individual choice. The risks of being unvaccinated and contracting those illnesses with the potential complications that can go with them, is not worth it to me. Here is an older post about vaccines and shots https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=40864 here is a link on MSG Open... -
Thanks! I am pretty confident that nothing else in the cookies was causing a problem. Oh well they were good while they lasted. The boys will have some oats to make cookies with now. I originally was going to wait a year but I guess I jumped the gun. I'll wait and try then in a couple of years again I guess.

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Question
Roda replied to Raynee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would still try and pursue the egd and colonoscopy. Even if celiac is not it (you can have negative blood work and positive biopsy) other things could be going on inside. I would stay on gluten until you can find out if you can have the tests or find a different doc. -
I use Pamelas bread mix and make it in the bread machine and when it cools slightly I slice it very thin and dry it in a warm oven. Just put in the blender or food processor and I have bread crumbs. I store them in the freezer and when I need some I season what I need with italian seasoning and use in my recipes. I have found that you don't need as much...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Question
Roda replied to Raynee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As the above person stated. I had one biopsy taken from my stomach to check for H-pylori and 6 random biopsy samples from the first part of the small bowel. My doctor told me that my lining of the small bowel looked a little smooth and scalloped, but had to wait for the biopsy for comfirmation. He really did not think it was going to be a positive biopsy... -
I tried Bobs Red Mills gluten free oats a couple of days ago in some cookies. They were great, but I have discovered that I am one who can't tolerate oats at all. That really sucks. I have never had bad symptoms and before gluten free tolerated oats fine. About a 1/2 hr to 45 min. after eating many cookies I had a fullness feeling in my stomach and had...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats
Roda posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was wondering if anyone has problems with some brands of gluten free oats but can tolerate other brands. I am leaning on the fact that I probably can't tolerate oats and that sucks! I know some celiacs can't tolerate them, but also alot do. I figured I would be one who could. Just goes to show you never know. Would trying a different brand make... -
Good story. I'm suprised my husband didn't hear that. He listenes to NPR all the time. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know much on the subject just a little when my endocrinologist ordered parathyroid tests. You need to find out if it is primary or secondary hyperparathyroid. I think that may make a difference, but I'm not sure. Here are a couple of links I found Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link P.S. my test came out all ok

ARCHIVED Synthroid Versus Levothyroxin
Roda replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have taken both. I have taken the generic far more and longer than the brand name. I don't have any problems with it either. I only have to pay $10.00 for a three month supply if I get the generic. I have not tried to ask for the brand name one. I suspect the ins. would not pay as well. I had an endocrinologist once tell me the same thing about switching... -
Well I have decided that I am not going to go out of my way to buy this again. I have used it in pancakes, mixed with other gluten-free flours to dip chicken tenders in and I even made mesquite banana bread. Noone, including myself was overly impressed. I still think it smells better than it tastes, and while it does not taste bad, I just like other flavors...

ARCHIVED Question
Roda replied to CountryStar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My understanding is that the tTg should go down and be negative. The gliadin antibodies should go down as well. Others on this site will tell you that the gliadin antibodies are more reactive to gluten ingestion so these are good to monitor to see if you still are consuming gluten or getting cross contaminated. My tTg went from a positive test to negative...
