ARCHIVED Are There Proven Medical Connections?
Roda replied to Chezza's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I find your question interesting. I don't have polycystic ovarian disease but I did have scarlatina aka scarlet fever twice when I was a young child. Never heard of any connection, but weird. -
ARCHIVED Have More Questions & Need More Advice Please :)
Roda replied to mom26boys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your insurance should pay for the Iga(checked to see if you are deficient or not which helps to validate the other tests) and the TTG Iga/Igg. You will have to check with your policy on the genetic testing. Mine won't pay for genetic testing at all. I found out when my youngest son was 14 mo old and being screened genetically for LAD (leukocyte adhesion... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Excited, Going Back To School!
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I GOT ACCEPTED!!!! I didn't think my transcripts got there by the deadline(Aug. 15) since I had not heard anything. I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. As soon as I can talk to an advisor I should be able to enroll for my first online classes to start this month. I'm really nervous. -
I had similar findings in my esophagus and duodenum and the biopsy confirmed my diagnosis with the positive blood work. My doctor did not think the lining of the duodenum looked all that bad either but I have celiac. Those reports are based on visual findings.

ARCHIVED Car Cooler
Roda replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We had a coleman refridgerated cooler. We had it for 8 years. We have used it on a week long hotel stay, in the car and at home. It worked great until we had a short in our outlet in the car and it got fried. I will probably get another one. -

For me, personally I would not be overly concerned. The only way I can see them getting cc's is if after they were cut they were placed in an area where there were crumbs/flour. Rinse them good and they probably will be fine. You could ask your neighbor if after they were cut if they went straight into the bag. It might make you feel better.

I am in the market to buy one of these. However, the decision is a little daunting. These are the features that I am looking for: -easy to use -reasonably priced (not wanting to go over $ 150.00 and thats pushing it ) -capability to seal mason jars with appropriate adapter (use for rice, grains, cereal, etc. I have lots of mason jars) -want...

ARCHIVED Werther's Original Hard Candy
Roda replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a link to their ingredients. I was wondering this myself. I want to eat one since hubby brought a bag home. I believe they don't lable it gluten free because of the glucose syrup they use sometimes comes from wheat. I have read that even glucose syrup made from gluten grains is safe because of the high degree of processing. I have eaten the cadburry... -
ARCHIVED Question For Those With Babies In Diapers....
Roda replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are pretty sure it is from the acidity in the stools causing the rash, and not yeast or any other type of infection, then you could rub liquid antacid on her bottom. When my youngest son was in diapers he had diarrhea that caused his bottom to become raw, red and scabby. It looked so bad I took him to the doctor. He told me it was caused from the... -
What a great idea. This gives me yet another project to possible look forward too. Thanks.

ARCHIVED What The Doctor Said
Roda replied to KathiSharpe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be forwarned that depending on your insurance and lab, a "celiac panel" may not exist. This is what happened with my two boys. There allergist/immunologist sent lab slips for a celiac pannel. I took it to the lab and they told me that there was no such thing as a "celiac pannel" and the only tests that were run was a total iga and the ttg. I was pretty... -
ARCHIVED So Confused About Results/endoscopy
Roda replied to SuzyQ2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tried the link today and can not get it to work either. I read the article last night, but can't seem to find it again. Google Marsh classification/celiac disease and you will find some more articles. -
I have gotten the flu shot almost every year since I started working in healthcare.I work in a hospital and they do not cost me anything. I probably will get the swine flu shot if my employer recommends it. However, I've probably already been exposed. My boys get the flu vaccine every year also.

ARCHIVED So Confused About Results/endoscopy
Roda replied to SuzyQ2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a similar thing. My anti tissue transglutaminase was positive. Doc came out from my egd and told me that I had distal esophogitis and slightly abnormal small bowel. He said it really did not look that bad and would be suprised if it was celiac, but to wait on the biopsy results. The biopsy was positive. So that said, my understanding is that it... -
I'm not sure if this is the right category for this, but does anyone know about this? I am one who can not tolerate gluten free oats. I get the same symptoms as when I have gluten. Since the protein is similar to the protein in wheat, rye and barley, would it cause an elevation in the antibodies and damage the small intestine too?

I feel pretty fortunate that my husband can get around in the kitchen. He is so much more versed than when we got married. He has even had me dinner ready before. We eat all our evening meals together gluten free (with the exception of pasta) and he is pretty aware of the cc possibility. I have not got cc yet by him. I do have to remind him to clean...

ARCHIVED I Don't Know What To Do Now
Roda replied to KarenFe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep I was one of those. My kids pediatrician even refused to order the tests for my kids after I was diagnosed because they appeared healthy and were not extremely underweight. Duh!!! I was slightly overweight at the time of my diagnosis and very few gi complaints. I did have heartburn that was new and constipation off and on all my life but I did not... -
I was talking to my mom this morning and she mentioned that my dad was informed by his doctor that his phosphorus was low again. It was low just a month or so ago and he had to take some powder three times a day for a week. He had his levels checked after this and they were ok. Now it is low again and he is frustrated and does not understand. The doctor...

So much to say, so I forget things. This sorta has something to do with canning, but you don't use a canner and it is really fun. Take widemouth pint jars and place on heavy baking tray. Spray the inside with non stick cooking spray. Fill about 1/2-2/3 full with your favorite pound cake recipe batter. (I have not tried this gluten free yet, but I don...

I have not got sick yet. If something smells funny, is cloudy, looks funny, or you are just in doubt dont eat it! When processing it can be normal for things to discolor some and if the liquid does not cover everything sometimes even be mushy. Processing to long can make a mushy product too. The book I mentioned before has information about this too....

ARCHIVED Cvs And Walgreens Slow Fe Iron Supplements
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is the Slow Fe helping? is it rasing your ferritin? My gi doc recommended I take 2/day. I have heard it is easier on your body. I have tried regular and some rx iron supplements and they were wicked on my stomach. However this was prior to gluten free and the heartburn was already and issue and the iron made it worse. Yeah I know, no one even thought... -
ARCHIVED Cvs And Walgreens Slow Fe Iron Supplements
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED So Frustrated With Getting Glutened.
Roda replied to arkoflove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I reacted badly to Bobs Red Mill gluten free oats after not having any oats for 7 months. I have eaten other Bobs prodcucts without any problem. Within 30 minutes the stomach bloating with sour burps started. Abdomen distended and remained that way for several days and constipation set in. Had horrible gas pains that I laid in a fetal position to help... -
Oh. I forgot to mention that the Ball Blue Book of Preserving is a great addition to have. I have used it often. Another thing to remember is that when you use a pressure canner you really do not want to have any distractions. You really need to watch the pressure guage and maintain it at the proper pounds pressure (by regulating the flame or electric...
