  1. Does anyone know if the CVS and Walgreens brands of slow fe iron supplements (generic versions similar to the Slow Fe brand) are gluten free? Is the Slow Fe brand gluten free? There is quite a price difference. I'm not sure I will be able to handle the pills, so I don't want to waste a lot of money. I am going to give oral supplementation a try again...
  2. It really depends on what you are planning to can. Anything considered high acid foods can be done in a boiling water bath canner (enamal coted aluminum). For example, tomatoes, pickles, relishes, canned fruit(peaches, pears, applesauce). If you are going to can low acid foods like corn, carrots, green beans, meat items, soups etc. then you need to use...
  3. I have not tried to make bread with it. I do like it for everything else BUT pancakes. Everytime I used it they were inedible. I have wasted so much on pancakes. Now I buy Bobs Red Mill pancake mix and they are great. I think I'm going to try Domata next so I have another flour to compare. I have used Tom Sawyer and like the Better Batter better for...
  4. I'm sure the doctor could order the genetic testing, but you may want to contact your insurance carrier before hand, since some do not cover genetic testing. I would like to have the genetic testing done just to see what genes I do have, but my insurance won't pay for it. I don't want to foot the whole bill since I am already diagnosed by blood work and...
  5. If you have the time and equipment you could buy almonds and make your own. I bought a 4 lb bag of almonds at Sams and it stated gluten free on the bag. I have made almond meal out of it in my blender and food processer.
  6. I tried the seaweed flavor today and boy you are right they were discusting! One bite and they went into the garbage too!
  7. I buy Pamela's gluten free bread mix and make it in a bread maker. There are directions on the package for oven also. I don't like to eat the bread but have found that it is great for bread crumbs. I wait until it is cooled, slice it, and place it in a warm oven until dry. I then either make it into crumbs with my blender or food processer. I usually...
  8. I just thought I would share some of the things I have been finding at Big Lots. It may vary regionally. 1. Kendale Farm chicken broth 32 oz box--it says gluten free on the side of the box. (can't remember exactly around $1.50/box or so) 2. Mahatma Basmati rice 2 lb. bags. ($2.00/bag) 3. FENG SHUI rice crackers 3.5 oz. bags. They had nori seaweed...
  9. Well here is a follow up on the e-cigarette.... He likes it and it does give him the nicotine he craves without smoking regular cigarettes. The down side he didn't stick with it. He is back to smoking as much as he was. He said that it worked but does not know why he "fell off the wagon". I was really hoping it would work for him. It was really nice...
  10. here is an older post on quinoa for you. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...c=54781&hl=
  11. I made this soup today and it was very simple and good. There is not anything fancy about it, but the possibilities are endless to add to it. Here is the link to the recipe Open Original Shared Link
  12. I know that when my oldest son was having chronic sinus infections they would give him an oral 5 day steroid to take. They told me it helped with the inflamation. After a year of non stop sinusitis, I finally found out he has allergies and it was the trigger for the chronic infections. After getting treated for the chronic sinusitis (had changes on a ct...
  13. For me I wanted the biopsy, even knowing the potential for false negatives. It helped me to deal with it knowing it was positive. Also, the way I saw it was they could be on the look out for any other problems besides biopsy for celiac. My gi doc also had me do an occult blood stool test. It came out positive several months after my EGD. I was told that...
  14. After I was diagnosed I had an upcoming dentist appointment. I called ahead and told them my situation. They could not tell me then if their cleaning products etc were gluten free, but that they would check. It took a few days and they called me back and told me everything was alright. I have not had any problems at my two cleaning appointments or when...
  15. Thanks for the vote of confidence! I don't know how many classes I will do to start off with since I will be working full time also. The night shift (12 hr shifts) can be pretty busy (I work by myself), but I usually have some down time as well. I will be able to study on my days off and when it isn't busy at work. If I have to go to the campus for classes...
  16. I have officially decided to go back to school and finish my B.S. degree. I can do most of the coursework online and I shouldn't have that many classes to finish it. At the time I was in college, having my B.S. really didn't benefit me so I graduated after three years. Now, 15 years later it is time. It will open up a lot of opportunities for me especially...
  17. I have a shared kitchen. If I get cc'd then it is minor and I have not noticed any symptoms. I'm pretty careful though and I do most of the cooking and when my husband does it is usually gluten free since all our meals together are this way. The only time I am concerned is after my one babysitter has been there. I have not had the "talk" with her yet...
  18. I guess the reason I'm feeling torn about my new feelings is the fact I'm in healthcare and always would alot of the time give them the benefit. Since My husbands bad experiences, and dealing with my own health, I feel a conflict. I think it is more of his personality I don't like than anything and like I said before that is nothing new, I'm just more intolerent...
  19. I had my first appointment with my PCP today in almost three years. I felt it was a good idea to follow up. I really felt that he was trying to rush me nothing unusual there he has always been this way. I did at one time change doctors and the one I changed to was worse! So, the way I figured I would just switch back. I have been feeling sorta moody...
  20. My dr diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis also at 5 weeks. I had to take medicine for that. It might have played a role in the preterm labor later since it could have resurfaced. I felt very dragged down from taking it also. The good thing though after I was on the meds and bed rest for those 4 weeks, I went back to work till the day I delivered him...
  21. I can't attest to its gluten free status but here is a link from pfizer. Click on the first one in the link and it brings up all the information in a pdf file. You'll still probably have to contact them for sure. Open Original Shared Link I took it for preterm labor during my pregnancy with my oldest son back in 2000. I went into preterm labor...
  22. That helps on making a decision on the vitamin b12 and folic aicid. My vitamin D is doing better. Was 17 in Dec. Been taking prescription vit D since Jan and it was in the 40's in April. I'm still taking that. I can't remember target level is but I know it is highter than that. I'm going to my pcp on friday for the first time since Dec. 06 to follow...
  23. I too have had issues with tachycardia, sob and a drop in bp when I stand up. The few cardiac tests I have had are normal. I believe this is related to my iron deficiency or low iron stores (ferritin) which I am exploring now as it can have side effects with or without anemia. I am now looking into trying to get an iron infusion to help with my symptoms...
  24. For those that had iron infusions, I'm curious what your target ferritin levels are/were? I have done some reading that it should be greater than 70 and some sources even stated 100. I talked it over briefly with my GI and said it could be an option for me. I had my iron checked today and here are the results: serum iron 45 mcg/dl (range 60-150), iron...
