  1. I have used Rachael Ray's chicken and beef broth (sold in a box). Both are labled gluten free and I found them at Walmart. I have also used McKay's beef style instant broth and seasoning. It too is labled gluten free. I usually have to add extra since the flavor to me seems weak.
  2. Anyone have any thoughts? I want to make sure we have the proper screening done this time. Would elevated gliadin antibodies without elevated tTG be enough evidence to go gluten free?
  3. Last November I had my children tested for celiac. I did not find out until after their blood was drawn that the reference lab (ARUP) did not accept any tests listed as a "panel". The doctor wrote an order for a celiac panel and all the lab performed was a total IgA and the tTG. I have again asked for the full panel for my oldest son and asked the doctor...
  4. If you get diagnosed while having insurance and don't have a break in coverage, then it shouldn't be considered a preexisting condition and should cover. I was diagnosed with hashimotos in 2000 and had my insurance through work. I have changed insurances/jobs twice during that time and as long as I remained covered (I took the cobra ins. until the new...
  5. I know this is going to come across weird but here it goes. For over 1 1/2 months I have had a very painful breast. It feels very much like when I had problems at the end of breast feeding my youngest(he is now over 4 1/2 and I ended breastfeeding at 16 months). Here is some history. He had so many bacterial infections that he got yeast infections in...
  6. You can make custard. Yummy!
  7. While I do agree you do need to do your research, as far as our own cow we made sure she had quality food, plenty of water, and was able to graze freeley. We always put her health first and had her vet checked. We made sure she had her necessary vaccinations (something that can pass to people, I don't recall) and we never had any problem or got sick. If...
  8. I really can't answer your question, but when I was growing up we had our own dairy cow. I drank raw milk, ate homemade butter, and icecream all the time. I don't recall having any problems at that time. It is supposed to be better for you because it has more of the good bacteria in it and pasturized does not. Making butter was cool. I used my grandmothers...
  9. I too love my rice steamer. My MIL gave it to me. I can't imagine eating it any other way now! I do keep instant rice on hand for the times my husband cooks supper and it is easy and quick for him.
  10. Frosting is pretty easy to whip up from scratch if you have the time. If you have any cookbooks there should be some pretty basic recipes in the cake section. There are several premade ones you can buy also that are gluten free. Here are some links for you to look at. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...amp;hl=frosting https://www.celiac...
  11. Here is some information on Roman's Pizza as posted by another. I have yet to go there. I'm about 70 miles from Knoxville and we go there several times a year to a specialist. If you try it let us know. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...=0&p=536675 Also I know there is an Earth Fare in Knoxville. You can go on Earth Fare's website...
  12. On the brown rice. There is a minute brown rice also.
  13. I have access to all the chestnuts I want. My neighbor brought some over today and I ate some raw yum! I have never eaten them any other way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also do you think it would be possible to make chestnut flour out of them?
  14. I was a teenager and my mom wanted me to bake the pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. I followed her recipe to the tee. It called for this and that and it also called for cloves. I got into the cupbord and found the cloves and proceded to add it to the mixture and baked my pies. When it was desert time I sliced my pumpkin pies and served it. I was so proud...
  15. In mid July was when my son had a complete meltdown over trying to write a cursive letter and thats when I knew he had strep/sinus infection. I took him and he did and they put him on a 10 day antibiotic. Within about 5 days he was back to his old self. Not even two weeks after finishing the antibotic his mood swings were back. I just figured it was his...
  16. I did not take your resposne toward me, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I hope he can find someone to help him and get to the bottom of his problem.
  17. Thanks for the links. Can you maybe post the first link again? I cant get it to work. Thanks!
  18. It is good to have differing opinions. Makes for a good discussion. It can be an issue, but I don't believe candida causes as many things as some practictioners like to lead you to believe. As for doctors, I've had a couple experiences with bad ones, but I have had a lot of good ones too. I work at an Adventist affiliated hospital and I have encountered...
  19. I know this is a little sidetracked but I read this that you were researching PANDAS and it caught my attention. I did a little reading on it and I think I may be on to something with my oldest son. What are your kids behavior like when they have strep or after they are exposed? My oldest son was plagued with one strep infection after another from age...
  20. Good idea to have the colonoscopy done. I was 35 almost 36 when I had my colonoscopy last December. The exam was not so bad since I was under iv sedation. Just the whole prep was the worst part. I had it done since I had a positive hemoccult stool test. They found a polyp and removed it. Everything looked good and the blood was from hemmorhoids, probably...
  21. Have you looked into any other causes for the constipation besides bacterial overgrowth of the bowel? I mean an actual mechanical problem of sorts. Have you had a colon transit study done? Do you think there could be some sort of nerve problem or pelvic floor issue causing the continued problem?
  22. I don't know about all of the varried symptoms of yeast overgrowth, but I do think it can be a problem for some. My youngest son was on so many antibiotics that he would get yeast infections in is diaper area, thrush (which he passed to me while nursing OUCH! ), and even had overgrowth in his bowel (had pale yeasty smelling stools and even was passing just...
  23. Hi. I was just curious if you have canned anything yet? I went out and bought a 16 qt. pressure canner/cooker. I have used it twice now. I made chicken stock in it the first time. Oh my gosh. I will never make stock any other way again! It was soooo easy and tasted great. I made chicken/vegetable/rice soup out of it. Sunday I had some tomatoes that...
  24. Did they biopsy the small intestine(duodenum)? Gastritis is inflamation in the stomach.
  25. Here is a topic I posted some time ago about corn dogs. My gluten eating family actually like these a lot. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...c=56619&hl=
