I tried several prescription iron supplements and they wrecked my stomach. I quit taking any for a long time. My GI suggested for me to try the SlowFe brand. I have been taking it on and off since Aug. and it does not bother me.

ARCHIVED Having An Endo/colono Any Tips?
Roda replied to Dejibo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here are a few suggesions for you: 1. You could ask if the pathologists are experienced enought to diagnose celiac from the biopsy samples. 2. Make sure the doctor takes at least six samples from different areas in the small bowel. 3. As far as the test goes it is pretty easy. I had my egd first and a couple of months later a colonoscopy. The... -
ARCHIVED Taste Of The Wild Dog Food
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
He has been eating this since Nov. 21st. I ran out of his other food and started him on this cold turkey. He really likes it, but I did notice him having loose stool at the beginning. I'm not sure if it has resolved yet or not. He seems allright now though. -

ARCHIVED Which Of Your gluten-free Recipes Came Out Really Great
Roda replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Our turkey breast wa a big hit. My husband brined it appx. 12 hours in a solution of salt. sugar, rosemary, basil, and apple juice. He then smoked it with apple wood, rosted it in the oven and basted it once with honey. It was the most moist, juicy and flavorful turkey breat I have ever had. The new crust I tried for my cherry delight desert was a big... -

I'll have to try these. I have been experimenting with coconut flour also. I just want lower carb options. I have some almond meal I made myself so I don't know if it will be fine enough but worth the try anyway! Oh, by the way, I have some of this coconut flour and have used a couple of these recipes and want to try more. I have made the gluten free... -
ARCHIVED What Does Being Glutened Feel Like?
Roda replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My first symptom to occur after getting gluten is burping and heartburn. The severity and how soon it occurs seems to be related to how much I have consumed. I have even gotten bad gas/bloating with pain. For a few days after I am usually constipated. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated Over Products
Roda replied to cbear6301's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Alot of people get sick from products that are gluten free. It depends on how little it takes for you to react. I have read on here that some people have reaction if they breath in gluten ie from flour dust. I do buy some things that are naturally gluten free and by trial and error have found some things I can eat and some I cant. As for the the cc issue... -
Don't forget that you need to ask for free T3 and free T4. If necessary, it would be worth the hour drive for a good endocrinologist. I also agree with Gemini. The other tests can help you to determine this along with how you are feeling.

ARCHIVED My Health Is Going Downhill
Roda replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You should get a full panel for iron that includes ferritin. Unfortunately doctors have a habit of only looking at the CBC to access iron status (hemeglobin and hematocrit). The tests I usually get for my iron are: IRON, TRANSFERRIN, TIBC, and % Sat and FERRITIN. When my ferritin was chronically low I had rapid heartrate, sob, fatigue and lightheadedness... -
ARCHIVED Ate Tg Dish That Had Cream Of Soups....
Roda replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use Health Valley organic cream of celery, mushroom and chicken soup and it is gluten free as of the last time I bought it. Nothing on the label is a gluten ingredient. I can't verify about cc, but I have not gotten sick from it yet. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Eggs?
Roda replied to travelthomas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can eat dairy and eggs without any problems. I think some people are unfortunate to have many other food intolerences/allergies. If I had to give up cheese and yogurt I would be a very unhappy person. Milk I could live without. This is off the subject but awesome picture. It might have been easier to ask for a bigger head! I think the picture... -
ARCHIVED First Thanksgiving Since Diagnosis
Roda replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds awesome. Great friends. We have not eaten out at our friends house since I was diagnosed last year. I have eaten at my parent's house and my inlaws without any problems. I have to brag a little bit too. My husband, my two boys and I had a great Thanksgiving dinner at home. It was nice just the four of us. My husband brined our turkey breast... -
You need to see a good endocrinologist who will order a TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibody tests. My last TSH was 0.81 (0.3 - 3.04), free T3 4.20 (2.50 - 3.90), and free T4 1.17 (0.58 - 1.64). I am not having any hyper symptoms at all and my endocrinologist is happy where I am at. The thyroid antibody tests will tell you if it is hashimotos or...

I use All free and clear because I will itch all over from the others. I have had to do this for years. I also use the bounce allergen free dryer sheets.
-
Do you have hashimotos thyroiditis by chance? It can alternate between the two, usually is hypo though. The other possibility is that you are now absorbing your meds better and it is causing it to be hyper. I have had my meds lowered once since going gluten free. That was the first time ever (with the exception of post partum) that has ever happened....

ARCHIVED Just Hit Me That I Can't Have A "normal" Thanksgiving
Roda replied to lpjourney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can have a normal Thanksgiving provided the necessary steps are taken. Sounds like you are going to have problems since others are doing the cooking. How about making a small amount of Thanksgiving dinner at home and take it with you. Take a desert that you can share with everyone. That way you know what you are eating is safe and you can enjoy everone... -
ARCHIVED I Can Walk Again! Want To Celebrate!

I don't have custom inserts for the keen shoes. They do however have removable insoles and will fit custom orthotics well. I started with a pair of sandles and I literally wore them all day(even to work) until my pain went away. I then ordered some shoes that tied and the inserts that came with them were almost as comfortable as the sandles. When my feet... -
I usually love to read Readers Digest. I was reading the Dec.-Jan. issue and ran across a box about a fad diet. It was talking about the gluten free diet for people who did not have celiac. They mentioned that there was a study done on people not needing the gluten free diet having lowered good gut bacteria. I have heard that before. The thing that...

I have been wanting to change my PCP and just now got around to calling and setting up an "appointment" (more like a visit to feel the potential new doctor out) with a different family practice physician. I'm not sick and everthing is going well, but I need a good pcp that I can feel confident with. My current PCP I am not satisfied with and have not been...

ARCHIVED I Can Walk Again! Want To Celebrate!
Roda replied to Lynayah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have had foot pain (not to the extent of you and not gluten related) due to plantar fasciitis and flat feet. No shoe would be comfortable. The foot problem started causing me leg, back and hip pain. In my neverending search for a comfortable shoe with a good arch support, I found Keen shoes. I love them. The first time I put them on I was in heaven... -
ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.

That's funny. My mom liked to eat tortilla chips. She woud say the "ll" in english as l's instead of the "y" sound.
