ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally
Roda replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I can relate somewhat since I had an almost break down last night. It is the first "I'm feeling sorry for myself" that I have had in over a year. I almost started crying. After getting the last of my deficiencies under control I've been on top of the moon since around Aug. I have been feeling bad since the begining of Jan. and can't figure it out... -
ARCHIVED Preliminary Results Of Endoscopy
Roda replied to AlysounRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unless the damage is very severe they can't tell you if you have celiac based on visual inspection. The biopsy will tell the tale or not. But be aware there can be false negatives on biopsy. They only take samples from a small area of the small intestine. -
I'm excited! I started some seeds two days ago and I looked tonight and they are already sprouting! I sowed them directly in the compost I have been working on for the past 1 1/2 years. I guess they like it. Hopefully soon I'll have lots of basil, marrigold and sunflower plants. I'm going to direct sow all my other seeds and buy my pepper and tomato...

Not quite sure myself. I got the idea from a girl at work. I am going to take one normal sized bag and plant one hill of the zucchini and squash. A typical hill for me is three seeds. So I probably will have 4 bags. I suspect you could do this with cucumbers too maybe two hills on those. You could probably even stand it up and plant a peper or tomato...

There are a couple of options for you. If you just want to plant enough stuff to eat you could try raised beds. Another option is take bags of garden soil and plant some seeds directly into it. I am thinking about doing this with my zucchini and squash plants.

ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
Roda replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your welcome. Ask the doctor how many biopsies they are going to take in the small bowel. A good sampling should include at least 6 all from different areas. Good luck and I hope you get some answers. I'm going for a repeat EGD next Tues. -

Those numbers are ICD 9 codes. That is what they use for medical billing. Here is exactly what they mean. ARCHIVED Need Some Help With Siblings' Test Results...
Roda replied to macocha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They need the antigliadin antibodies IgA and IgG and Anti-endomysial (EMA). The lab where I took my kids would not run the EMA if the tTg was negative. But the oldest did have the total IgA, tTg IgA, antigliadin antibodies IgA and IgG and reticulin antibodies. My youngest only had the tTg done even though a "celiac panel" was ordered, the lab would not... -
ARCHIVED Need Some Help With Siblings' Test Results...
Roda replied to macocha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm no expert but it doesn't seem like they did the whole celiac pannel on them. Did they do IgA and IgG gliadin antibodies? -
ARCHIVED I'm Excited..kids Liked Gluten Free Bread
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funny you should mention that. After all the rave reviews I have heard about it I wanted to try some. I can't get it locally, so I thought I would order a case. Well that just isn't going to happen after I saw what they charged to ship it! I'll make time to bake or I'll do without. Next time I am at Earth Fare I may inquire if they can get it in. It... -
Well, I'm not really sure, but I suspect anything from ulcers, reflux, etc. He mentioned doing more biopsies to see how things are going too. I have had symptoms of intense belching, recurrence of my reflux, bloating, and frequent bouts of diarrhea and a pulling/tugging sensation just right of the xyphoid. I thought at first maybe I was getting gluten...

I've been busy planning what I am going to plant this year. I finaly convinced my husband to let me till up an area in the back yard near where I plant tomatoes. I'm so excited. This opens up so many more options. I am going to plant cucumbers, bush beans, zucchini, yellow squash, baby carrots, tomatoes, and bell peppers. I probably will do alot of my...

This makes for some interesting reading. I have found some things referencing lyme. What was your reaction to the lumbrokinase? Was it a die off reaction? It is interesting what the lumbrokinase is made from. http://www.twofrogscenter.com/lyme_earthworms.html http://www.healthdetectives.com/thehealthdetectives/id26.html http://www.natmeds.net/index...

Glad to hear that someone is having luck. Keep up the good work! I've been a slug since my last post. I caught my kid's cold and I've been having issues with my stomach. Exercise was not doing my congestion, reflux and diarrhea any justice. I feel really bad about not doing anything too. I'm hoping to get back on track this week if my body cooperates...

ARCHIVED I'm Excited..kids Liked Gluten Free Bread
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No problem. I can't claim the recipe as my own though. I have made it exactly as the recipe states and it was good. Last time I made it I had run out of brown sugar and used regular. I also used perrier water instead. I'm due to make it again so I think am going to try adding a little less sugar or use honey and some of the potato water from boiling... -
ARCHIVED I'm Excited..kids Liked Gluten Free Bread
Roda posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My kids, who are not gluten free, liked their grilled cheese sandwiches today, ALOT! About half way through eating their sandwiches, my oldest asked me if it was my bread. I told him yes. He said it tasted pretty good. I feel this is a big accomplishment, since this bread I have been making is the first I even like to eat too. Both kiddos ate them up... -
ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally
Roda replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It took almost a year for me to get my energy back to do the things I wanted. Now I'm able to exercise, ride my bike with the kids, play with the kids and dog, all while not having extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. How is your iron? My lingering fatigue was from my chronic low ferritin. I have raised it up some to where I'm not having symptoms... -
ARCHIVED How's Natures Made Vitamin C?
Roda replied to fakename's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought some nature made vitamin C to take with my iron and it says on the bottle no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, and no Yeast or gluten. -
ARCHIVED Jelly Beans

Chalk me up as one as having constipation. If I accidently get glutened my abdomen will blow up with gas. It is quite uncomfortable. Then I am unable to move my bowels for 4-5 days. Little did I know that constipation was a symptom. My mom said she had trouble with me from the day I was born. I had two fecal impactions (that I know of) before age 5... -
ARCHIVED Enriched Rice - Really gluten-free?
Roda replied to Erica Rodman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well then I guess you can rule out your crock pot. Your eating utensils are fine. I had two pans with teflon, a wok and griddle, and I quit using the griddle since it had some scratches. I still use the wok. Most things I cooked in it were fine and it was still in excellent shape. My other pots/pans are caflon with no coating, but there is one I don... -
ARCHIVED Enriched Rice - Really gluten-free?
Roda replied to Erica Rodman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would guess either the crock pot or the herbs/spices. Does your crock pot have a teflon surface, some do. Also did you replace your herbs/spices or are they from pre gluten free? If so it is possible they could be contaminated from before. What were your utensils? -
ARCHIVED Mushrooms
Roda replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My opinion is that they are gluten free. The mushroom spores are, under sterile conditions, innoculated in the grains and colonize the entire grain enabling them to be sown like seed. It seems as if the mushroom spores have a symbiotic relationship either antagonistic or commensal with the grains . Just my take on it. Here are a few things I found. ... -
ARCHIVED Ferritin Levels Vs. Rbc Count
Roda replied to Laura9's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was symptomatic with a ferritin level at 4. My hemoglogin and hematocrit most of the time were fine. I had shortness of breath and tachycardia and would fatigue easily. I have raised it up and I can tell a difference. I quit taking the iron for awhile, but I'm back on it so I hope to get it up more.
