  1. I had severe RA that responded radically to gluten-free, grain free, nightshade free, soy free. Three years ago I could barely get out of a chair. I just finished reassembly of an older Nautilus Duo Squat machine today. Could not have even thought about thinking about doing that back then. Many of my autoimmune issues have responded as well. Strict on all...
  2. I was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Hands, feet, back, everything as it progressed. Very high titers for RA factor and I was nearly immobile by the time we went in the direction of a diagnosis for celiac. Once I went paleo for my gluten free diet my RA started to clear up.. profoundly and rapidly. My rheumatologist refuses to believe that my...
  3. Any idea if the Purely Decadent is gluten free? It doesn't say so on the label and there is "Natural Flavoring" in all the ones I was checking out today. Enough doubt to make me at least try to find out. Sure would love it if it was gluten free as well as soy and dairy free. CS
  4. I think I see both sides of the coin here. I have gotten tremendous information and encouragement from many people here including self diagnosed, those who thought they might be but later found out they weren't but felt a part of this community anyway and had a better empathy for those of us who are now lifers, from officially diagnosed, from supportive spouses...
  5. Figs also seem to be problematic. CS
  6. Wow, so you not only moved but went through a time warp as well. They sound like they are in the dark ages. Stick to your guns and avoid them for anything if at all possible. I know I don't know enough about your situation. I know my doctor was willing to go with anecdotal info because my blood test was negative and I was very unwilling to do a gluten challenge...
  7. I am sure it's coincidence but the last several Lara Bars I have had seemed to be almost all dates and very little of the other stuff. I am sicker than a dog at present. I keep trying to give them up as the dates really do seem to bother me. I gave up raisins last year because they were like crack to me.. I would go through boxes of them and just kept losing...
  8. I agree with everyone here about this being my support group. I tried the local one but just didn't seem to fit in with all the people trying to keep up appearances of a "normal" diet when there was almost nothing I could eat. Didn't help that one of the presenters from a local hospital made so many assumptions about how impossible it would be for any celiac...
  9. I just checked here for old posts on the subject and decided to go with PB8 by Nutrition Now as it seemed to be the best bargain ( I am..uh... frugal..) And was available locally at a store by the mall. I am in my first week. It is gluten, soy and dairy free but It seems to be a bit of a challenge to my body. After several years of gluten free things are...
  10. I consider myself educated now. Thank you. It is just something that stuck in the back of my mind from my early ventures into understanding gluten-free and all my other problems. One of those statements that, contextually, can be made without fibbing in order to put forth an agenda but isn't really true either. I guess that would mean I don't have GRAS status...
  11. I was thinking the same thing here. The peanuts and chocolate are higher in lectin content as are legumes. Lectins are supposed to increase gut permeability which is also a problem for someone with a damaged gut. I have stayed away from peanuts and legumes. Makes sense. I used to love them but whenever I would eat any I knew I wouldn't be able to sing the...
  12. Lost two maternal aunts to pancreatic cancer. My mom is the lone sister to not have it so far but I have seen all the signs of celiac in her even though she tested negative after my diagnosis. I was also serum negative but positive by biopsy. My father in law had pancreatic cancer. I cannot get my wife to take this as a sign to have the whole family go gluten...
  13. Is your La Choy Soy Sauce gluten free? There are definitely those of us who had to cut out dairy, soy and other grains initially as well. You don't say how long you have been at this. As to being "on the diet" are you doing this because of diagnosed celiac? If so, spend plenty of time here reading as much as you can so you are able to start identifying all...
  14. No suggestions other than to say I had a similar experience when my wife was out of town for a week. When she came back I had problems once again. Painful because we still argue about it after three years now and yet, I try to smooth things over.. real dilemma. Good luck.
  15. It is my understanding that, technically, soy has never been granted official GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status by the FDA. I will have to track down my source on that, though. Maybe Weston Price.. Price Pottinger.. Maybe Mercola.. Can't find it at present. CS
  16. I agree here. That is another reason the reaction to the accidental glutening is taking longer as well. It, being an autoimmune response, is not something that just works through the system (ie: intestinal tract) and is over. It sets up a cascade of autoimmune responses. I got had by something the last week and have had everything from nosebleeds to arthritic...

ARCHIVED Sick And Tired Of Doctors?

Please keep in mind that you first told her about your celiac and then she "diagnosed" you. CS
  18. Tears of joy for you! Congratulations on one incredible accomplishment. You are truly amazing! CS
  19. My first exposure to soy after going rigorously gluten free/soy free was almost worse than a glutening. I avoid it like the plague.
  20. Am I to understand that Dawn dish washing detergent is safe? This is a topic that recently came up at home. Thanks, CS
  21. Back to the sorbitol. Although supposedly safe, and this may be coincidence, when I had my first encounter with it after knowing I had no exposure to it for at least 6 months, my gums bled like crazy after using a particular toothpaste that had it in it. Prior I had only been using straight baking soda. I do wonder if, in fact, my immune system is on hyperdrive...
  22. Peter, I have always respected the fact that you are a level headed clear thinker and yet you give cause for concern here. You say Shelley Case is completely trusted and yet you question, at least on a personal level (experience?) her recommendation that sorbitol is completely safe. I know we all have our different levels of sensitivity due to the wide...
  23. Well, there are issues.. I don't think it was malicious.. they just don't get it on so many levels. I am still trying, after three years, to cope with the fact that I have to guard my own little safe corner.. walked in to the kitchen last night as I was cooking up some burgers and picked up the spatula without checking or thinking.. had been used for their...
  24. My family threw me a birthday party recently ... and had cake, ice cream, punch.. and nothing..NOTHING ..for me to eat. What? I just sat there and watched everyone else eat..
