Oooh.. I have been looking for something chocolate that is soy and dairy free. I have had a piece of dark chocolate sitting on my preparation table in the kitchen for weeks but haven't eaten it because it has dairy and soy lecithin in it and I am not willing to take the chance. Soy has been out as well as dairy for me. Is there any place other than on line...

ARCHIVED Elimination Or Cave Man Diet
chasbari replied to jenngolightly's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Google Loren Cordain, PhD and you will find information on his take on the paleo diet. There are others as well. As for me, I just stick with fruits, non legume veggies, no nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and tobacco because of my RA) and meat and eggs. I know he recommends staying away from eggs but they are a cheap source of protein for me and... -
ARCHIVED Severe Pain In Lower Right Abdomen... Related To Celiac?
chasbari replied to Becci's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The small intestine, particularly the duodenum, exits the stomach on the right side and might be considered lower abdominal area. That is where they look for damage when they scope for damage to the villi. I know that before I was diagnosed I was very aware of pain on my lower right side. That being said, it could be something else but... I highly doubt that... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Shed Light On This Topic
chasbari replied to miche's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would say it looks like you are off to a good start. Yes, there is a period of feeling like withdrawal from old gluten laden foods and it may take longer than 9 weeks. Lots of changes and if there was any damage to the gut (you don't say whether you had an "official" diagnosis") there will be plenty of healing that will have to take place. I know I was... -
ARCHIVED Positive Biopsy, Negative Blood Tests
chasbari replied to echopants's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like your doctor is working backwards. I had a negative blood panel and a very positive biopsy that was ordered because of very compelling anecdotal evidence that overrode the negative blood work. The biopsy overrules the negative blood work as already cited above as the biopsy is considered the gold standard for diagnosis. i think you will find many... -

ARCHIVED People Who Were Diagnosed And Feel Much Better
chasbari replied to somersat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Things certainly aren't perfect yet but instead of dreading going to sleep....if I could, I now sleep easily. I used to feel like I could never have enough padding on the mattress to keep me from major discomfort (in fact it felt like my body really wanted to be six feet under.) We took the mattress cushion off as I have no pressure points like I used to... -
ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally
chasbari replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funny, but from all of your incredibly insightful observations on other posts I was sure you were someone who wouldn't suffer the ups and downs so much. Thanks for getting this whole discussion rolling. It has helped me tremendously today. I avoided reading the spoons at first because I didn't think I could handle it today. Turns out to be exactly what I... -
ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally
chasbari replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had the terrible adjustment of going from being a human doing to becoming a human being. Before my diagnosis there were days where all I could do was to sit and stare the ceiling, or the TV or the computer screen because I could barely move anymore. For someone who was so invested in what I did as opposed to who I was, this was the absolute low point of... -
Ran out of my Cal Mag Zinc D supplement several weeks ago... Seemed to have stabilized my teeth while on it.. until today when a huge chuck of yet another molar broke off. My teeth have been a mess most of my life... most likely as a result of the nutritional consequences of celiac. My dentist was at a total loss and would always blame my poor dental hygiene...

Negative blood test and positive biopsy here and there is no doubt that the symptoms get much stronger after gluten-free for a time. Your situation sounds classic, really. Also, many of us have discovered that when we get rid of the gluten we also find that dairy is problematic as well as other things... in my case soy(which is in everything.. even canned...

ARCHIVED Blood Pos/neg, Do Endo Or Not Do Endo Advice
chasbari replied to pufffee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Negative bloodwork here as well but doc was willing to send me for endoscope anyway because of anecdotal evidence being so strong. Biopsy was very conclusive for positive diagnosis. Good thing you kept digging. -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated With Family Member
chasbari replied to idonteatwheat's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep living your life and you will, whether they will ever admit it, become an example of what could be. You can lead a horse to water... well, you know the rest. I have many of the same concerns with my immediate family and yet they refuse to see how a change in the diet could help so many things that they would rather take medication for. Doesn't make sense... -
Along those same lines... sort of.. when I was first talking to my physician about a possible diagnosis he was reading off the notes his assistant had made before he entered the room. He was asking general health questions when he read and re-read my chart and then asked why I was interested in Cialis. I was taken aback for a moment before I realized that...

ARCHIVED Obscure Sources Of Gluten?
chasbari replied to David in Seattle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I gave up on toothpaste and was using only baking soda for a while to see if that would make things better. One day I just decided to go back to Crest and by the time I was done brushing with a medium bristle brush (which is the same I would use with the baking soda) my gums were bleeding pretty badly. This was never a problem with the baking soda even though... -
ARCHIVED Worried, Major! Weight Loss, Normal?
chasbari replied to book-worm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had some weight to spare when we first suspected celiac. When I went gluten-free I lost forty pounds in very short order and had everyone worried. Could never eat enough to stave off hunger and still eat all the time presently but after a year have finally reached a set point. Everyone thinks I am too skinny but I am now much healthier than ever before... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue, Hunger And Blurry Vision
chasbari replied to karlsthlm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think the supplement is actually L-Carnatine. See if you find anything that way. I, too, experience blurred vision and sometimes slurred speech if I go too long without calorie intake. I have reason to believe I am having fat malabsorption problems. Sounds like you have a very high caloric intake which seems to me to indicate a lot of healing needing to... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else With This Issue Prior To Biopsy Diagnosis?
chasbari replied to macocha's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sounds like you re heading in the right direction with your doctors. I wouldn't wish this diagnosis on anyone...except for someone who actually has the disease. That way they can be treated properly by following the gluten-free lifestyle and thereby get healthier. Best of luck with this and hope you get some good answers. CS -
Just as in the normal respiratory tract where you have a fast turnover of the epithilium that lines it there is constant repair/replacement of the cells that LINE the tract.. respiratory or digestive. That, of course, would be in a normal healthy and functional system without any extraordinary damage. Because villus atrophy and perhaps severe villus blunting...

ARCHIVED Stress Dreams About Eating Gluten Foods
chasbari replied to GFLindsey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have occasionally had the dream that I accidentally ate some old favorite only to realize that I have to spit it out. I think I have even awakened trying to do so as if I were choking. Just this past week I had a horribly real dream where I found myself standing in the middle of our kitchen with flour all around. All over the floor, all over my feet, flying... -
ARCHIVED Little-Known Condition, Celiac Disease, Usually Goes Undiagnosed - The Ledger
chasbari replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
"Celiac disease is a lifelong, inherited autoimmune disorder, which means the body damages its own immune system." To me this seems incorrect. It is not the immune system which is damaged, as in something like AIDS but rather the immune system that is triggered to turn on some part or parts of the body as a result of some stimulus, in this case dietary... -
ARCHIVED Husband Eats Gluten At Home - I Keep Getting Sick - Cc?
chasbari replied to 8Curvey8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At present my eyes are burning.. I can barely keep them open. I have a small area in the kitchen that is gluten-free and they are in there fixing dinner. Been a relentless barrage of toasted cheese sandwiches and grilled tortillas and the list is endless this past week. I have been feeling particularly bad this week and the only thing I get is a bunch of... -
ARCHIVED Exercise While Healing
chasbari replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a hard time tolerating too much exercise in the first few months of going gluten-free. As long as I was mindful of how my overall health and energy was I would add little bouts of exercise. If I dropped weight as a result ( I dropped 40 pounds scary fast in the first several months of gluten-free and had everyone very worried!) I would back off of exercise...
