  1. Yep, caused me trouble from the beginning. I removed it early on...dumb luck on my part, I guess.
  2. Is that three month set back an arbitrary number or is there clinical evidence of such. I know I have been able to maintain strict gluten-free with only one glutening episode for the last 7 months and am healing up well. I have a hard time, after the experience I had of a severe one time glutening, with believing that it sets you back with that much damage...
  3. I may be way off base here but I thought MSG was a contributing factor in gut permeability so it would be bad if dealing with leaky gut syndrome. I am willing to be entirely wrong on this if someone with more knowledge steps forward. I am wracking my brain to come up with the source... CS
  4. I wouldn't chow down too much if I were you but rather keep some gluten in the diet if you are really concerned about the biopsy showing damage to the villi. It won't heal that quickly if you are still having exposure ...even just a tiny bit as it is not an issue of how much but rather that you have any. One advantage to getting a firm medical diagnosis is...
  5. My son works at Blimpie here in town and when we talked about this he said it would be no problem (and a no brainer, he added) to skip the bread. They even have their cash register set up to deduct a dollar if you opt for no bread. He couldn't comprehend being unwilling to take full price and just skip the bread. That's not a bad day, that's just rude. Reminds...
  6. But which blood type is salt good for.... ?? Seriously though, I concur with Paleo. I am thriving on it in so many ways. Healing, feeling much better and, ahem, younger. Did I mention brussels sprouts? Go Paleo!
  7. Thanks for the link. CS
  8. I don't know about the diabetes but I do know that before I was dx'ed for celaic I was having all sorts of problems with excess thirst and urination... especially after meals. I was attributing it to leaky gut symptoms as I would also have visual acuity problems and heart palpitations after eating. I could never get enough water to drink but after meals I...
  9. I also got my diagnosis in February of this year. I used to work out regularly before first rheumatoid arthritis and then celiac sidetracked everything. I have been healing very rapidly but have noticed that I still don't have the endurance I once had..yet. It seems to be that when I get adequate rest and the right food my body is starving, active and healing...
  10. I rarely got sick prior to gluten-free and still do not. I have been dealing with RA as well. My rheumatologist (before my celiac DX) recommended vitamins for me which would make my RA even worse. I told him I felt like I was handing my enemy a bazooka by taking the vitamins and supercharging my immune system. He said I was greatly misunderstanding how RA...
  11. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I am actually in North Canton, Ohio. I have been to Pittsburgh... and much to my dismay never made it to Primanti's before my diagnosis. That was the one place I wanted to go... Now, uh, I think I shall never set foot in the place as I am pretty sure finding gluten-free food there would be highly unlikely. Been gluten-free...
  12. Actually this looks very much like Loren Cordain's Paleo Diet. I started out generic gluten-free to little effect other than feeling not worse. When I switched to paleo (and eventually added eggs in for cheap protein) I got better real fast. I lost body fat and my gut really started to heal. I do eat fruit, though, as well as veggies and lean meats but stay...
  13. Raisin Rack in Canton has a celiac support group that meets regularly. Just around the corner and down the street for me but I seldom make it there because I am usually too busy. Good people and shopping there though. Giant Eagle has a gluten-free section as does Acme... sort of. Chuck Oh, I just remembered, BAM Cuisine here in North Canton started a gluten...
  14. How about going to a restaurant in advance of taking your clients there. Scout it out. Talk to the manager about your situation and the fact that you are looking for a good place to be able to entertain your clients without having to worry, in front of the business, about your concerns. Once you establish a good relationship with them and get a feel for what...
  15. Dx'ed in February and still starving. Lost 40 pounds and whenever I eat really good food I am even hungrier. That lets me know I am feeding my body food that is allowing me to heal as I am getting healthier by the day. Of course, for two decades I was not hungry because there was so much swelling and damage to the gut that I just ate out of habit. Now I know...
  16. We finally came to the conclusion I was dealing with Celiac shortly before Thanksgiving this past November and went gluten-free even though I had no diagnosis and everyone was cautioning about how it would prevent a proper diagnosis. Sure enough, the blood test was negative but my doctor was very willing to continue down the diagnosis path because of all...
  17. Quinoa was very bad news for me. No thanks... ever again. I think there are issues with the saponin, even residually, and leaky gut problems which seem to have a very noticeable effect on not only my celiac but also my RA. Chuck
  18. I agree about checking with the pharmacy to make sure the Amoxicillin is gluten-free. I found, before my DX for celiac and after I had been dx'ed with Rheumatoid arthritis with high lupus numbers that antibiotics would trigger flares without fail. Funny, the National Lupus Foundation states that while there is no causative link between lupus and antibiotics...

    ARCHIVED Body Builders

Open Original Shared Link Not sure if this link will work or if it is OK for me to link to another site but this is a link to my discussion about my celiac from a high intensity workout perspective if you are at all interested. I am an amateur body builder at best. I have found there a re a few others over on the site that also suffer from Celiac. Back...
  20. Excellent answers from everyone else. My experience was that I was skinny as a kid, worked hard to gain weight through my teens, started putting on excess weight later on, lots of joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis and eventual digestive issues and finally a diagnosis this past February. Once gluten free and paleo I lost weight drastically and started gaining...
  21. Having been involved in fitness for most of my life I can relate to your frustration. By the time I was finally diagnosed in February I had gone through stages where I could barely get out of a chair or make it up steps. My body still seemed to occupy the same amount of space but, in hindsight, I realize my body composition had changed drastically in the...
  22. I was denied because I was up front with them about the fact that my performance abilities (But certainly not my teaching abilities... I have been maintaining a private studio throughout all of this ordeal) had been compromised because of the nature of late stage celiac. I was unwilling to take on new performance contracts because I didn't want to make it...
  23. I am curious too as I was denied a TA position because of "health concerns." Chuck
  24. I know nothing about the Tgase question but do know there are some who hold the opinion that when eating eggs you need to avoid eggs produced by soy fed chickens as this somehow works its way into the food chain. If you have soy intolerance problems this might be a possible reason. I cannot tolerate soy but have no problem with commercial "non organically...
  25. My wife was out of town for 8 days... no gluten kisses and no chocolate chip cookies and other baked goods filling the air here at home. She returned and started baking and I have been in pain ever since. She started to prepare macaroni at my parents' house while I was there and I could barely keep my eyes open because it burned so bad. It made me start thinking...
