  1. As I expected California's Proposition 37 regarding labeling of GMOs did not pass -- good news is it did garner many votes and much attention to the need to know what is in our food. Thought I'd share this email that I received today from The Institute for Responsible Technology Food Policy Fund is a 501©(4) non-profit organization engaging in advocacy ...
  2. Dairy was the toughest for me to figure out. I removed it once shortly after gluten and did not notice a difference so added it back in. Much later I removed it along with many other foods during a strict elimination diet for several months. When I trialed each dairy item separately I was able to tolerate butter, some cheese and cooking with milk/cream...
  3. And I can eat spinach all day long, but cannot eat quinoa, beets or chard
  4. Welcome Lunacat! Yes, many of us get fuzzy headed along with many other symptoms when we consume gluten. I do think it is a good idea for you to completely remove it for at least three months (six would be better). A strict gluten free trial is the only test for Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. NCGI can have many similar symptoms to Celiac Disease,...
  5. Hmmmm....what type of hurt/pain? One of my endos I felt some discomfort when I ate for a day or so after - not sure but thought it might be where they took samples. Do you know if they took samples from different parts -- like your stomach in addition to small intestine?
  6. It was very scary... While I have not had to use the epi-pen yet - I do feel better knowing they are available and that my family knows how to use them. I avoid seeds as I would gluten so no problems thus far. I do use benedryl for more mild reactions I have had to other intolerances. Bottom line is now that I am aware of my potential problem...
  7. Yes and not all gasteroenterologists are well versed in celiac testing or are actively looking for anything other than "classic" celiac symptoms. This is the reason I remained undiagnosed for over 43 years.
  8. The pie experiment went well - coconut milk is a great sub for evaporated milk in the recipe I've always used (back of Libby's canned pumpkin) -- only problem was my fresh pumpkin puree wasn't as thick as canned so they set, but I'm going to make adjustment for the next round (I have a lot of fresh pumpkin left otherwise I would just use canned pure pummpkin...
  9. I strongly agree with 'Ravenwood' - you are improving and gaining weight while gluten-free As you gain weight and you are consistent with staying gluten-free your friends and family will see that you are correct. Do make sure you carry gluten-free snacks when out - sometimes "friends" will point out the times you eat gluten as evidence that you can...
  10. Well I think doctors with no training or up-to-date knowledge of Celiac Disease and Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance are CRAZY It is shameful. You have come to the right place, let us know if we can help!
  11. It worked for me...both firefox and chrome...i have had more gliches with FF to date. I'd add it to Scott's "bug" thread - might help remind folks to post their gliches
  12. So sweet... If Niki (dog) is on her bed Shelby (cat) joins her BUT if little ity-bitty Shel is the first to plop down in the middle of Niki's bed - Nik will sniff Shel and then lay down next to the bed - usually because of a bop on the snout from Shelly -- dogs are so sweet - when I see it I remove Shel from the bed accompanied with the prerequisite...
  13. Ah...now I remember...you had a recent double-ender...have you received the pathology from the endoscopic biopsies? Have you removed all gluten? Since you have completed all testing, it is time to remove it all and give living gluten-free a strict three month trial (six months is better) as this is often the best test for Celiac Disease and the only test...
  14. Not much on it's own. It looks to be a Total Serum IgA result within normal range - granted the lower end of "normal". Did you have any other blood tests run? Make sure you request written/electronic results of ALL tests.
  15. I ended up with anaphylactic reactions to seeds after I removed them during a very strict elimination diet along with a host of different reactions to many other foods. Allergy type symptoms are nothing to mess with as they often become worse with each accidental exposure. Call or email your primary to explain the reaction you experienced. Mine ordered...
  16. While I am sad to hear you have visible damage - I am very glad to hear that you now have confirmation of everything you suspected and more. It will make your follow-up endo much more interesting to have this baseline to compare it to. As for the familial thyroid history - you may have stopped this cycle as many with both thyroid conditions and celiac...
  17. I think it depends on you. If you have doubts they can become much more pronounced during times while healing. I know if I had not been diagnosed I would have doubted the need to be gluten-free during some of my early days gluten-free. Knowing what I do now - I agree with Ravenwoodglass that the positive AGA along with dietary response should be enough...
  18. The kid can definitely talk -- it's exhausting just listening to him at times -- luckily he always goes home
  19. Welcome Back Mama! First, if you and your son are testing very low Total IgA than none of the IgA based antibody tests in the celiac panel will be accurate. Request a written or electronic copy of what tests were run for both of you. The IgG based antibody tests are essential with low Total IgA and there should be a Total IgG run as well - which is...
  20. Yep, your daughter may like udi's - I can guarantee by the regular invasion of groups of teenaged gluteneaters to my home that teenaged boys love it and never complain about gluten-free cakes, cookies and cocoa peeble rice krispy treats while hanging out here. One kid was able to convince his parents that he thought his dad and sister may have celiac and...
  21. Not whiny at all - let us know if you have any questions during your transition - getting all the gluten out is not easy and healing can take time and bring a whole new list of frustrations - but it does get easier with time! Your daughter's symptoms are very similar to one of my sons - he decided to remove gluten over three years ago when I was diagnosed...
  22. Raven is absolutely correct! Even though I tested positive on antibodies (barely) with total villous atrophy and have enough copies of genes that all my children have the genes. One of my sons was unable to get diagnosed because of neg blood work despite complete symptom resolution after removing gluten. You do not need a doctor's blessing - it is...
  23. Yes. You can post both the written observation from the doctor and the pathology report here and we'll try to help. Call your doctor's office and request a written or electronic copy of the endoscopy report with pathology of any samples taken. Even though you already have the report with pictures I'd ask for them both in case the doc added any observation...
  24. I'm not in your situation, but do agree that waiting 18 months to start healing is a very bad idea. I do suggest you keep a detailed symptom list for each or you, along with improvement in symptoms - you may discover some symptoms improve that you never consiered to be more than just a bit of this or that. With your daughter headed to college...
  25. Welcome Jessica! To the best of my knowlege, a strong positive on Gluten Allergy IgG test means you are certainly intolerant of gluten. IMO, your best next step is to have proper celiac blood tests with the addition of nutrient testing which can show if you are deficient in nutrients - also an indicator of Celiac Disease. Your doctor may or may...
