ARCHIVED How Many Of Us Assume A Gfd Will Fix It?
GottaSki replied to WendyLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I certainly remember the disappointment that came when removing gluten was not the entire answer for me. I was so thankful to finally have a diagnosis - my family and I were thrilled to be able to improve my health by simply removing food. Well we all know it's not simple to remove all gluten - but it is definitely do-able. Then to have some digestive... -
ARCHIVED Where To Get Blood Test When Uninsured And Poor?
GottaSki replied to Seeking2012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the Deamidated Gliadin Peptide is the newer version of testing for the production of antibodies against the peptides of one of the proteins found in gluten - Gliadin. The DGP is preferable to AGA - IMO. -
ARCHIVED Babies With Celiac, What Did You First Notice?
GottaSki replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OMGoodness...the connections to celiac are continually amazing. I believe I was undiagnosed my entire life for many reasons...but I had never heard the pigeon-toed symptom -- I had to wear corrective shoes for at least eight years because my toes turned in -- boy were they ugly! -
ARCHIVED Afraid Yet Optimistic, For My Husband

Frieze is right...that would be too long. You can usually call either your Primary or the GI and explain that the Celiac Panel NEEDS to be run now as your husband has begun eating gluten-free and you will lose this data if you wait for your December appointment. Yes, B12 is often checked for deficiency -- my celiac doc runs B1, B2, B6 and B12 -
ARCHIVED November 11 Is Remembrance Day
GottaSki replied to psawyer's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love this...one of my sons had the opportunity to produce a video for the National Stories of Service project -- he met a WWII Veteran that became a good family friend and his story left a lasting real world understanding of sacrifice with my son. Projects like these are invaluable as they preserve history that we are silently losing. I hope these projects... -

Thank you for sharing this poem Peter. My FB status today: Today I remember my Grandfather - he was a quiet man that never shared his WWI experience with his family as many of his generation and those that follow do not. My father researched his history and found my Grandfather served in 27th Division from New York City. While in France this division... -

ARCHIVED Please Help (Elimination Diet)
GottaSki replied to Mennoknight's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease at 43. While my digestive symptoms improved within the first months gluten-free - my joint/muscle pain, brain fog, memory issues, insomnia, fatigue, etc ALL got worse! Hence the search for other intolerances for over two years. The puzzle is often tough to figure out when many intolerances are in play. For me different... -

Allison - Elvis Costello Great story!!! One of my many nicknames is "navigator" as my husband will never relinquish the wheel until he nods off - so I - a map lover - have always been the navigator until he is too tired then I drive -- after adding coffee -
ARCHIVED Babies With Celiac, What Did You First Notice?
GottaSki replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My grandson was 18 months when I was finally diagnosed. They had already removed several foods thinking an intolerance was causing severe loose stools and frequently sore tummy from birth. When I was diagnosed, his Mom removed gluten - within days he had his first solid movement and his stomach aches disappeared within a few weeks. Thankfully, young... -
ARCHIVED Afraid Yet Optimistic, For My Husband
GottaSki replied to nicoleashley's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All good...would still suggest completing his celiac blood work and nutrient testing. Does his weight match his diet/exercise levels? I ask because some of us have unexplained weight gain rather than weight loss with Celiac Disease. I was deficient in many nutrients despite all other tests being "normal" for decades. -

ARCHIVED Afraid Yet Optimistic, For My Husband
GottaSki replied to nicoleashley's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Nicole! A couple thoughts: The blood work is incomplete. Given the increased intraepithelial lymphycytes your husband should have had a complete celiac blood panel. The tTG-IgA is meaningless without a Total Serum IgA -- IgA deficiency would make any of the IgA based antibody tests inaccurate. Do you know if there was more than one sample... -
ARCHIVED Surprised This Morning With Celiac Diagnosis, Not Sure What To Do
GottaSki replied to rorenchan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the club - officially While it is best to be monitored annually by a GI that specializes in Celiac Disease - the follow up testing can be handled by your Primary. If you haven't had nutrient testing - give them a call or email to order: CBC - Complete Blood Count CMP - Complete Metabolic Panel Bs, D, K Iron, Ferritin, Copper and... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I Am Going To Die....:(
GottaSki replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This might seem harsh - please understand I am not trying to be so. You have Celiac Disease. If you consume any gluten, the symptoms you have will worsen and many more will join them. I have no doubt you feel bad now, but it can get much worse and likely will if you don't remove ALL sources of gluten. For now simplify - eating one meal a day is not... -
ARCHIVED Please Help (Elimination Diet)
GottaSki replied to Mennoknight's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Removing one food at a time - one week at a time with symptom log is a fantastic way to go if it works. Sadly, for me, it provided no clear reactions which is understndable given I was eating many gluten-free meals that incuded several foods that I was intolerant of. My go-to lunch at work was quinoa with red bell pepper and peas with a few handfuls... -
ARCHIVED Input On Pathology Report
GottaSki replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Megan! I went back to check your previous post because I couldn't remember your story. How long have you been gluten-free now? Any improvement in symptoms? Did you end up taking meds for Crohn's? Is the list above everything you were tested for? There are no celiac antibody blood tests listed. Only Total Serum IgA - this is meaningless... -
ARCHIVED Just Met With Dietician Today Really Confused And Slightly Scared!
GottaSki replied to Meadowsk1002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Excellent advice has been given - take a deep breath and read it a few more times this weekend. You'll figure this out and will find most healthful foods are gluten free - it just takes time. Take several more deep breaths, perhaps a nice long hot bath and let us know if you have more questions. The transition is never easy - but does ease... -
ARCHIVED Where To Get Blood Test When Uninsured And Poor?

That's right: AGA = Anti-Gliadin Antibodies or Gliadin Antibodies DGP = Deamidated Gliadin Peptide Antibodies Both can be tested based on either IgA or IgG -

GottaSki replied to AshBil's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh...I am sorry it hit you hard. Lots of water. Ginger tea helps me as well - usually not until the next day. Do you have digestive enzymes? They are a good thing to take daily while healing and do help a bit with accidental glutenings. Hoping you feel better very soon -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Results

In my experience - the training and experience of doctors is incomplete with regard to Celiac Disease. I - along with members of my family and several friends owe our lives to very competent doctors. -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Results
GottaSki replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They are negative - technically a very good thing - but frustrating none the less. The unknown factors in Celiac Disease and NCGI are incredibly frustrating. So much remains unknown about celiac disease and next to nothing has been studied thoroughly in NCGI. I remain hopeful your endo pathology will provide a firm diagnosis, but if it doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Results
GottaSki replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac Disease can be very difficult to diagnose. Until we have alternatives, we must utilize the mechanisms currently available - this often necessitates using: Blood Work Endoscopic Pathology Dietary Response Genetic Testing IMO the waste occurs when doctors don't suspect or test for Celiac Disease - the years of health I and others have lost...
