  1. I agree with this as all of my kids and both grands have Celiac Disease or NCGI. But again, I have several copies of genes and my husband is a non-celiac carrier. The point is that while many families have several celiacs, there are others with only one. Additionally, it seems more of us may be triggered by present day food supply than previous generations...
  2. Doors on Smithonian Channel right now
  3. This, unfortunately, is quite common. A second opinion would be a very good way to proceed.
  4. gravy with waffles??? I think my California Men may bow down to you - next breaky for dinner will include gravy btb...I suggested we utilize the brown sugar'd candied bacon for early Christmas morning and got swept off my feet by my 17 year old - many thanks
  5. Perhaps I am misinterpreting this statement - I have been as gluten-free as possible in the world we live in for over three and half years and still have serious health problems stemming from decades of undiagnosed celiac disease. From what I've read, Ms. Esposito was yet another of us that doctors misdiagnosed for years and she has made every attempt to...
  6. My men are having breakfast for dinner - waffles, eggs and hmmm...what is that lovely smell wafting from my kitchen??? For me - my first attempt at apple breadlike substance without using eggs -- and for the first time ever in all my years of cooking I used too much salt -- maybe the eggs absorbed any previous oversalting -- along with encore chicken...
  7. I believe the current statistics show 1 in 22 - it depends on so many factors. If you are curious, you could have yourself gene tested. I have a pair of one set of genes which means all of my children have at least one celiac gene. Even if your children inherit a celiac gene it does not mean they will develop Celiac Disease. About 30% of the population...
  8. I agree...full celiac panels for you all. Let us know if you need the list - I can post it later. PS...all first degree relatives of a diagnosed Celiac should be tested every 3-5 years and more frequently should symptoms arise.

  10.
  11. Thanks Paul! Bill- I completely agree - negative tests do not rule out Celiac Disease - especially in cases of DH. One remaining test would be if you get accidentally glutened and have a DH outbreak you could have that biopsied. Those with DH on the forum give great advice in that area.
  12. That is fantastic news!!! I am very happy for you - wow, now there is something to be thankful for. Thank you for sharing
  13. Hey Bill- You are not alone in your confusion. The plain truth is there has not been enough research into NCGI - period. The symptoms are often identical to those in Celiac Disease with the exception of antibodies. Paul (GFinDC) is posting on this thread and if I'm remembering correctly he has a few links to the most recent NCGI papers - if not I...
  14. Welcome! While I agree your symptoms could be caused something other than Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance -- I think it is very important to have a full celiac blood panel while you are still consuming gluten. Should these tests all be negative, it would be wise to remove ALL gluten for a period of three months (six is better) as elimination...
  15. Exactly - let us know if you have questions
  16. Thought I'd add favorite for when the whole clan invades -- really large roast beef or prime rib with mashed potatoes, gravy and a few vegie sides followed by sinfully rich chocolate cake. Roast beef - heat oven to 500 - yes that hot - roast for seven minutes per pound and turn off the oven - keep oven closed for two hours - perfect every time.
  17. What items would you normally prepare - almost any favorites can be made gluten free. If you list your desired menu - we can all help provide replacements. Traditions are important to retain and you don't need to lose them - just make some minor adjustments
  18. Just my guess - slightly abnormal will likely mean one or more of the antibody tests was positive. With Celiac Disease the general rule is "positive is positive". I would not wait for Monday to obtain the results of the tests. Call and request written or electronic copies of the tests ordered. If you post them here - many of us can help interpret. ...
  19. I'm seeing a coconut milk pumpkin shake in my very near future - thanks for the great idea
  20. Broccoli Soup - friend of mine sent me a recipe that used roux to thicken the soup - used sweet potato instead - worked great Roast Chicken Brown Rice (for my men) Eggs removed from diet this past weekend - last high lectin food. Smoothies or meat/vegies for breakfast now too.

  22. I lost contacts for a year in my 20s - was able to get them back using disposables - very thin and comfortable. Still have occasional bursts of dry eyes but have avoided Restasis thus far. If your eyes are continuously dry - Restasis is the way to go!
  23. Welcome Jack's Mom! I can't tell you if his problems are completely related to Celiac Disease, but can confirm they could be. Couple thoughts regarding Jack: Is it possible he is getting minute amounts of gluten in school? Have you removed all gluten from your home? It is possible to have a shared kitchen, but a very high level of care is needed...
  24. Burnt orange shag is back!!! well they call it my some other term - my folks replaced their "custom" shag from the 70s in their family room with a very close match - my Dad said - "No, this is not shag" - still laughing because no matter what the designers call it -- this kid from the 70s calls it shag - period
  25. Nice - I knew today would be a good day for a phlip Sorry you have a root blocking the path - but certainly glad it will be covered by your homeowner's association - now if the e-break will magically repair itself all will be grand! Oh...the oven - mine is older than yours -- one of the old white porcelain gas stoves from the 30s that I love -...
