  1. Are you seeing your screen name on the list of online members with an * ? If you have an * next to your name you remain unseen by others. This is what I see now, that I did not before: GottaSki*
  2. I had a nice long companion rant regarding docs, allergists and their lack of education/general knowledge with regard to food intolerance all typed up and ready to post yesterday when the plug got pulled on the site...guess it was a good way to shut down my rant Had also asked if you did get epi-pens - glad you have. Take care
  3. Mines too bright and too slow - where is the whiny emotion?
  4. Mushroom is correct...a phone call explaining the need for blood tests because he has removed gluten from his diet should be sufficient to obtain blood work. If you choose to wait until the appointment on the 9th - I would still have the full celiac panel drawn in addition to genetic tests - yes the celiac antibody tests are more accurate if he wasn't...
  5. Board Games Playing Cards - more than one deck comes in handy if you have bored kids Extra batteries for everything Last time we lost power we pulled out the old CDs along with a getto-blaster gathering dust in the garage - our teens had a blast listening to our "ancient" discs and playing cards. Ziplocks half full of water shoved into all parts of...
  6. That is very good news Glad to hear you are being tested as well...many of us have multiple autoimmune disorders as AIs tend to run together. You may find removing gluten improves your Sjogren's and Hypo symptoms. Should your celiac tests be negative it would be a very good idea to remove gluten from your diet along with your daughter to monitor for...
  7. That is fantastic news! Thanks for sharing
  8. Snow in October - YAY!!! :D :D of course we don't live in the stuff...just love when there is enough to slide down and provide much needed snowpack / future water to those of us that have to pay heavily for this scarce resource. **** Let it snow ****
  9. If they are beat up non-stick I'd skip it and store them out of the way. If they are metal that can be scrubbed - scrub them - brillo pads work great to scour them. If you have a dishwasher...run them thru after you scrub them well. If still in doubt - line with foil until you can purchase your own.
  10. Completely understand and feel free to ask questions - it really is the best way to speed the frustrating transition process. If you haven't yet, take a look at the "Newbie 101" thread - it contains loads of useful tips. Welcome to the forum Missy! Oh...forgot to add. Celiac Disease is genetic - you, her father along with any siblings should have...
  11. Yes, there is value in determining the damage to her digestive system. Is it essential - NO, although many doctors will not officially diagnose without it. Do you know if your daughter had a complete celiac blood panel? Any nutrient testing - Celiac Disease prevents proper digestion/absorption of key nutrients - it is essential to monitor these. ...
  12. I do understand the path you have chosen, but would highly suggest you have your primary or allergist order the full celiac panel NOW and have his blood drawn after school if at all possible. While the tests will not be necessarily as accurate after being a week gluten free - there is still important information to be found in these initial blood tests ...
  13. Welcome Matt! Both very good questions - awareness has improved a great deal in the three and a half years since I was diagnosed - things are moving in the right direction - although it often seems the knowledge needed throughout the medical community is being transported on the back of one lonely tortoise! Great detective work on your part - perhaps...
  14. I have used many Source Natural products including their enzymes.
  15. and learn to make gluten-free pizza! Again, give yourself time for the transition...you'll be able to replicate all her favorites as you learn more. Have you read the "Newbie 101" thread - loads of good start-up info there and continue to ask questions - it really is the best way to speed up the process.
  16. Add healthy fats! Avocado, nuts, coconut/olive oils, nut butters. Meat with every meal. Paleo muffins - baked goods made with almond or coconut flour. Make sure you are getting enough calories. I use a caloriecounter.com to help make sure I get enough daily calories - it also helps track nutrients which I find very useful info.
  17. If he has been told or read of the genetic link - perhaps he has made the connection that you could have inherited Celiac Disease from him and is fearful that he should be living gluten-free too De Nile is not just a river in Egypt
  18. Welcome Jessica! Whether your daughter has Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance the treatment is the same - remove ALL gluten and watch her improve. That being said...if she responds to the removal of gluten and had a positive EMA-IgA - I'd guess that the damage to her small intestine was either spotty or in it's very early stage. Do...
  19. We use Bob's RM for cornbread - additionally I bake it very thin to use in cornbread stuffing for Thanksgiving!
  20. Glad to read he is willing....he's got the desire, so he'll learn
  21. Welcome! I certainly understand your frustration. I wish I had some magical words of wisdom that would change your family's level of care with regard to gluten cross-contamination. Sadly, I have none. If you have tried repeatedly, it is time to drop it and do whatever is needed to keep yourself safe. Clean counters, keep your own cutting board/cookware...
  22. Hi Mw- I'm stealing the game plan from Bartfull here -- simply tell your kid's doc that you have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and would like to have a full celiac blood panel run on each of your children. You simply leave out the word "self" in front of the diagnosed. I was nervous to as our pediatrician to have my kids tested when I was "officially...
  23. I'd start with the most important information. Your daughter has symptoms that may be related to gluten ingestion. Your doctor believes this because you have Celiac Disease and there is a very strong genetic link in Celiac. I would add that many children test negative and if gluten is the cause of her symptoms, the damage will only get worse. Besides...
  24. Hi Bill- Just throwing it out there - perhaps your sons should have get a full celiac blood panel now - current testing can be very confusing. With such a strong genetic factor to this disease, I'd get a baseline for them now. If you had obtained an "official" diagnosis it would be recommended that all your children and siblings get tested every...
  25. Welcome Back! My answer remains the same as in the above post with the following addition: If your son's GI is dismissing the firmly positive DGP IgA without a complete celiac blood panel, refusing the need for a biopsy and providing no alternate reason for the positive DGP - it is time to look for another doctor. I'd highly suggest you look for...
