  1. Hey, I'm stumped again Kite with insufficient momentum? Kid with immature Mom? Koalas wading in marsh? something to do with a kangaroo or kazoo? IMO (in my opinion) we are certainly OT (off topic) - hopefully making the OP (original poster) while laughing at ourselves.
  2. ....and not a stupid question at all...I scratch my head regularly over abbreviations here - FWIW - took me way too long to figure out
  3. This process is not easy. Keep him on gluten until the endo is complete. Ask how many samples of the small intestine your doctor plans to take and whether these samples will be taken regardless of visual signs of Celiac Disease. Here's a great article that another member posted which explains what should be done. Read and bring a copy along to...
  4. I strongly agree with Raven's advice - call your doctor and ask to have all the tests Raven suggested ordered as soon as possible because you'd like to remove gluten and have learned that this will adversely effect the results of these tests. Removing gluten can make an already difficult process much harder - don't remove it unless you are certain you...
  5. Absolutely - I found it easy to make almond butter in a food processor. Roast 2 or 3 cups of almonds for 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Place in food processor to process for 15-20 minutes...yep it takes that long...first it will become almond flour and after time it turns into almond butter - be patient. IMPORTANT: Make sure your almonds come from...
  6. Welcome! If you post your blood test results here, we can tell if you have had any of the blood tests necessary for a possible Celiac Disease diagnosis.
  7. Welcome! Removing gluten for well over a month will definitely cause all blood and biopsy results to be less accurate and likely negative which will leave you with many unanswered questions. Blood tests - All tests in the Celiac blood panel measure antibodies that are created in response to gluten ingestion. No gluten - no antibodies to be measured...
  8. Kahlua + Vodka = Black Russian Kahlua + Vodka + Milk = White Russian Kahlua + Coffee = yummy
  9. Great link! Thanks Stephanie
  10. Good Morning Megan- It is indeed frustrating that many of us have to be pushy/forceful/adamant with our doctors regarding running celiac tests. It is my opinion that celiac panels/not screenings should be run for all patients presenting with gastro, autoimmune and non-specific symptoms - as this certainly would have prevented decades of illness, misdiagnosis...
  11. I agree with Patti - start with simple soup/broth made from chicken or turkey. If you are able to tolerate broth, than try baked chicken or turkey parts. I would advise against starting with processed meats - even applegate which is excellent. I believe any of these processed products would be very tough on your system. Applegate uses paprika, celery...
  12. From what I understand HLA-B27 is a gene that is associated with different forms of arthritis. Autoimmune disorders tend to run together and it is quite common for people with Celiac Disease to have other autoimmune conditions and vice-versa. Unless your father had a pair of these genes, it doesn't necessarily follow that you inherited it. Given that...
  13. Unfortunately, no one can tell you an exact time. I can tell you that most of the major celiac centers recommend between 6 and 12 weeks - ingesting the equivalent of 1/2 to 2 slices of glutenous bread per day when gluten has been removed from the diet. Given the short time you have removed gluten, a shorter time may be sufficient - it is just not possible...
  14. Nice greetings from sure to be sunny in the morning - San Diego, California
  15. All this talk of lotto tix - I think were all due for a big win! I've always disliked chlorine, but am very happy pools use it - would rather swallow a touch of chlorine than untreated pool water Personally, I think the gains from swimming far, far outweigh any drawbacks. It is so hard to know what causes upset in the healing digestive system...
  16. Welcome Back! Yes, these test results are all negative. I don't see a Total Serum IgA - this test is important to verify you have sufficient IgA to produce the antibodies measured in the other IgA based tests. I don't recall if you spent any time gluten-free before your blood tests. If you did, this could cause the tests to reflect negative.
  17. Perhaps your Mother's doctor will include genetic testing in her tests. Should hers be positive you would then have reason to ask your doctor again OR if hers are positive it may be enough information for your kids to be genetically tested by their pediatrician. I was fortunate - when my kids tested negative with symptoms my celiac doc recommended that...
  18. I agree that your symptoms including the gallbladder removal could all be related to Celiac Disease. My daughter is one that had hers removed long before I was diagnosed with Celiac, which led to her diagnosis. We'll never know for certain, but do believe the undiagnosed celiac triggered the need for surgery. I also think the BEST chance you have to...
  19. Sounds like you have a great primary - I'd ask her to order the tests. That way you'll have the results when you consult with GI and if you are deficient you can start supplementing to help from becoming more deficient.
  20. I know you have been through a tough time just getting this doctor to test tTG-IgA and don't wish to make you jump through more hoops. I just want to make sure you understand that one tTG IgA test is not enough to rule out Celiac Disease or NCGI if you have symptoms. As I see it, you have four choices: Have your doctor order full celiac blood work...
  21. Hi Nicky- My personal experience matches what your doctor said. My was slightly high at Celiac Diagnosis low 40s with reference range of 0-33. My Celiac Doc told me that it is quite common for elevated liver enzymes with active Celiac Disease. It came down steadily over time gluten-free and was in normal range by one year. I'm at 3.5 years gluten-free...
  22. I have multiple food intolerances that developed &/or worsened after I was gluten-free. My first thought is your symptoms came on suddenly, so has there been any items that are new to your diet - change of brands or ingredients in things you regularly consume. If not, you might want to consider other intolerances. Mine fall within the foods...
  23. Red wine - any will do in a pinch, but partial to Old Vine Zin Cosmo - out on the town Black Russian - favorite drink in the snow currently abstaining do to some pesky gut inflammation, but have tolerated red wine quite well and very often whilst living gluten-free - and plan to again just as soon as possible
  24. No apologies ever needed here...most of us learn about about Celiac Disease as we go - I had no clue what celiac was prior to my own diagnosis. All of your daughter's tests are within normal range which is good. I haven't heard of numbers going up after removing gluten, but that certainly doesn't mean they can't. I also agree that if you are researching...
  25. When suggesting how to increase calories, I generally start with add healthy fats...like avocado - so I'll amend that a bit: Can you eat nuts? Cashews, Pistachios, Almonds? Coconut Oil - easy to add to many foods - when I'm low in calorie totals - quite often with my limited diet - I use a bit extra in my vegies and other foods. Carbs - Potato,...
