  1. Goodness Gracious - I have many of the same symptoms - don't have infertility or sinus issues and my SED rate has never elevated (when tested) - ANA has often throughout my life. Have you seen Rheumatology to rule out Lupus and other AIs? Are you effected by heat/cold besides photosensitivity - like cold or warm/humid days or during exercise? Have...
  2. All very true - you have found a place with others that have walked and sometimes crawled the same path. This is the place to vent - we've all done it - there is always someone popping on that can help.
  3. We toss pasta with butter, fresh garlic, parmesan and salt regularly. Yummy! Edited - Mushroom beat me to it
  4. Yep...I use a paper towel to open and close the microwave at work. Admittedly, I am a super-sensitive silly-yak. Couple other thoughts: Was this the first time you had that particular brand of gluten-free english muffin? Some gluten-free items can be difficult on your system. It is also possible that you reacted to your previous gluten...
  5. Hi LJ- I had a very scary anaphylactic reaction to sesame seeds while challenging them on a full elimination diet. Very similar to your experience - my doc also prescribed epi-pens which I carry everywhere. Thankfully I have not had to use them yet, but as these reactions can worsen it is far better to be safe than sorry. What may be of interest...
  6. Being seen by UoC gets my vote if you are living in Chicago. If you have only been gluten-free for a week, I suggest continuing to eat gluten until you can be seen. You don't need to overdo it - a slice of gluten containing bread a day is sufficient. If ingesting that much makes you extremely ill, you should consider cutting it out until you are sure...
  7. I have not been diagnosed with CFS, but have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The two are very similar. My research has found nothing that differs in the conditions other than CFS lists fatigue as main symptom and Fibro lists pain as the main symptom. Since both pain and fatigue are subjective I don't see the difference. I can tell you I've been horizontal...
  8. First - far from scientific observation. I was accidentally glutened. My symptoms have been far less severe than with any past experience. Can't prove, nor disprove the tea as the reason - but I'm going to keep drinking it.
  9. Welcome GFin from Oz! My MIL had Sjogren's - once I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and learned the ins and outs of said disease, I strongly believed that she had undiagnosed Celiac Disease. Here is the good - possibly great news: Many symptoms of Sjogren's are greatly improved or completely resolved once gluten has been removed. The bad news: ...
  10. Thanks Mindwarp Living with multiple allergies/intolerances sure does make life interesting. Anaphylaxis makes it plain scary - had my first such reaction last year - boy I thought I had it tough before - not!!! Sure hope your son is able to stay safe every day.
  11. Forgot to ask if you had any IgG blood tests. Even if you don't decide to have an endo, I'd make sure you have the IgG tests. My own IgA tests were weakly positive and my IgG were higher. tTG IgG DGP IgG Also, if they haven't been run - blood tests for nutrient deficiencies. Celiac Disease damages the villi of the small intestine thus preventing...
  12. Hi Mark- I'd say welcome to the club - you have Celiac Disease. Nicole is right. It is amazing that your body has managed to produce enough IgA antibodies considering you have EXTREMELY low Total Serum IgA. I can't imagine what your result would have been had you had normal IgA levels. Since you have been gluten-free for four months, more...
  13. Thanks IH Not beating myself - I give a quick kick and move along - had plenty of "dohs" - certainly enough to know this won't be my last My grumpy and froggy symptoms are much better this morning - digestive and body aches and pains will last a bit longer, but I know they'll improve.
  14. It can be a symptom, but I suspect I had celiac my entire life and was never forgetful until my late thirties - in fact had an incredible memory from childhood to young adult. Some kids are more forgetful than others. I have one that never forgets a thing and another that forgets anything that doesn't interest him - he is 17 and has not outgrown this...
  15. PS...for those of you that are thinking it...I've already kicked myself for not sending this email before I purchased and ate these almonds. This isn't the first time I've gotten burned trying to save money. More caution will be used next time - well maybe
  16. Good Morning All- About a week ago I was able to add almonds back to my limited list of safe foods. I find almond butter quite expensive, so I purchased a four pound bag to make my own. It was really easy to make, unfortunately I had a gluten-like reaction within the first hour. My initial symptoms to gluten ingestion are bloating, suddenly tired and...
  17. That is correct. -tTG (tissue transglutaminase)is the most common screening test for Celiac Disease. -DGP (deamidated gliadin peptides) is used to measure the antibodies that are created in direct response to peptides found in one of the proteins of gluten. Two high positive results indicates Celiac. Add to them the positive response to diet and cellular...
  18. I'm glad to see you are having additional testing as it is important to rule out other causes of fatigue. Did you have fatigue prior to Celiac Diagnosis? It can take many months gluten-free for fatigue to improve and it can even worsen in the early months. I had some improvement in the first weeks gluten-free, but my fatigue worsened for several months...
  19. Hi Marie- Here's a link to a recent discussion about arsenic in rice that might be helpful to you:
  20. Welcome! My first thought is - even if your son eats gluten for the next three months it does not guarantee a positive biopsy. The evidence you already have should be enough to diagnose: Symptoms - bloating, diarrhoea, tummy pain, irritable, lethargic Positive Antibodies - do you know which tests were positive? Biopsy - Inconclusive, BUT...
  21. Ribbit, Ribbit - Linda is not alone and the typo sure made me smile. We could start the froggy club - so much more fun to say "I'm a bit froggy today" rather than "I've got brain fog - again". oops...off topic
  22. That must have been a fun talk Great detective work...make sure you emphasize all the products she'll still be able to use in the next discussion. If you really end up in the dog house you could offer to take her shopping for a replacement - not just pay for it - of course if she takes you up on it be careful - the other women at the make-up...
  23. I completely understand. My 18 year old son (also born to be an engineer and is presently an engineering major) decided to go gluten-free at 15 - a few months after I was diagnosed - his tests were negative, but had some serious health problems. He improved gluten free - doubted the need to remain so a few times - each time the reactions got worse to the...
  24. Was Celiac Disease ruled out by full celiac panel, nutrient blood work and endoscopic biopsy? I'd vote for a longer - very strict - trial of at least six months. Even minute amounts of gluten can maintain the reactions and will definitely prevent symptom improvement - especially digestive. If you have been eating regular amounts of gluten, make...
  25. I try not to say this often, but you need a different gastroenterologist! - Positive Gliadin IgG - Anemia that doesn't improve with supplementation - Family history of Celiac Disease - Improved symptoms gluten-free!!!! "some teens like the special attention a diet gives them." If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must...
