  1. I had this happen as a child and totally forgot about until it happened once about a month ago. Sure hope it doesn't happen again, very disturbing.
  2. Welcome! I would pack enough digestive enzymes to take before each meal. Now or Source Naturals brands are our favorite, but any gluten-free digestive enzymes will work. Oregano Oil can be very good to take proactively while traveling. Haven't had much luck in our house with accidental gluten recovery. SE Asia - you should be able to find...
  3. Thank you! My digestive system seems to be settling a bit the past couple days -- I'll take anything I can get right now. Finished antibiotic for SIBO about three weeks ago -- upped the probiotic and added the pepperment and oregano at the same time...plan to keep them in the routine for a very long time. I sure hope they continue to work...was able...
  4. Yes, I think most of us become more sensitive and some become hyper sensitive -- we can get symptoms that you describe and worse from very small amounts of gluten - a whole flour tortilla - don't even want to think about what that would do to me For me - I recall becoming more and more sensitive over the first 6 months which encouraged me to become...
  5. Thank you so much, but I am not scared to gain weight -- I have never in my life been afraid to eat healthy food (well maybe during the teen girl years ) -- there is just not much I can eat right now -- I am adding healthy fats to all of my GAPS soups/meals. I actually lost 30 pounds my first year gluten free and had a wonderful healthful period just...
  6. Removing gluten often reveals other food intolerances - Grains, Dairy along with nightshades (tomato, peppers, potato, eggplant) are the most common. Tomatoes cause allergy type symptoms in my mouth. A genetic test can be helpful in putting the pieces together, but I think the improvement of symptoms on diet is the strongest indicator and reason to...
  7. Welcome! No need to apologize - this is the perfect place to vent. I've had similar experience except that I had severe digestive issues prior to diagnosis along with muscle/joint pain, severe fatigue, etc. The only thing that improved for me during the first seven months was my digestive symptoms. My pain, fatigue, brain fog and more became much...
  8. Wishing your pain away - hoping it feels better quick!
  9. Good Luck to you! No need to be nervous - of course I was a bit nervous for my first endo - didn't have the joy of the double ender until later They'll give you meds to make you sleepy - I hardly remember anything from any of mine - you'll wake shortly after - hopefully doc will give you a synopsis of what they saw - if not the results should...
  10. Getting back to answer what I believe your question was -- from what I understand: In IgA deficient individuals, the tTG IgG can be more sensitive -- not necessarily true for non-IgA deficient individuals. I have read in interviews of Celiac Docs (I think Mayo or Univ of Maryland) online that quote for non-IgA deficient individuals the tTG IgG has the...
  11. Welcome Erin! While I have no idea whether the chicken or the egg came first, I am confident that gluten intolerance / celiac comes before depression and other psychological issues. It frustrates me to no end that doctors automatically jump to prescribing anti-depressants/mood stabilizers without ever considering food intolerance. Psychological...
  12. Welcome Michael! Depending on the level of celiac damage to your small intestine, perhaps you are not absorbing enough nutrients as it sounds like you have a good grasp on what nutrients you should be obtaining from your food. I'd vote for getting your vitamins and minerals tested to find if you are low. Perhaps you will need supplements of some kind...
  13. Great question -- I am definitely part of the 1% -- long history of removing foods: Mostly whole foods since 2010 - completely whole foods since last summer. Currently only eating meat, vegies, broth -- progression of foods removed was like this: March 2009 - Gluten Free had improvement to digestive symptoms and lost about 30 pounds first...
  14. Welcome Angie! I have always had C rather than D -- I believe it is one of the reasons I went undiagnosed for so many years -- it is unfortunate that most primary docs still believe that those with Celiac must be underweight with D -- so many of us retain weight with C. Improvement can take time - it took many years to cause the damage - makes sense...
  15. For at least 25 years I told doctors repeatedly about the same symptoms that got worse and worse...all blood tests were always "normal", was told I was depressed, hormonal, stressed from overwork and motherhood, my weight was solely based on calories in - calories out, etc., etc., etc., -- until finally when I was so very sick and bloated to 9 months pregnant...
  16. Thanks Bubba's Mom! Great help to know what others with unresolved symptoms are testing for - sorry you are still having docs scratching their heads too - so frustrating - especially because it took them 43 years to find my celiac - was so hopeful back when I got diagnosed that my health would finally be fixed. Question - do you know what the counts...
  17. Good Morning Razzle Dazzle- Your signature says you have been gluten-free since June. If you are not consuming gluten, your tests will likely be negative. One needs to consume gluten for several months for blood tests or endoscopic biopsy to reveal Celiac Disease. Have any of your symptoms improved while on the gluten-free diet? If so, I'd say save...
  18. You will likely have more improvement as your time gluten-free increases - very glad to hear you have had some improvement already! Have you had your thyroid checked in the past? Since you have symptoms that are possibly related to your thyroid that have not yet improved on the gluten-free diet, I'd get TSH, Free T3, Free T4 along with thyroid antibody...
  19. IMHO Don't think you are going to find what you are looking for in current medical literature. The good news is there is more current information about Celiac Disease than ever and much of it is more accurate. The bad news is there is a long way to go in understanding Celiac Disease along with all other autoimmune diseases. The term credible source...
  20. I agree - I'd feel comfortable saying she has Celiac Disease based on the results of the endo alone -- but she also had antibodies and improved on gluten-free diet. If it becomes an issue in the future you could take her current results to another doctor to acquire a diagnosis. My adult daughter was diagnosed by symptom improvement from diet only after...
  21. Welcome Troy and Dave! Troy - glad you are diagnosed and on your way to healing -- very sorry the process was rough (unfortunate that is often the case - took me 25 years). Dave - the test doesn't work - it is only an indicator. If it is positive, it IS positive. The problem is when the test is negative it does not mean you don't have celiac disease...
  22. Welcome! Very glad to hear you are feeling better on a gluten-free diet. Am am sad to hear your family is not supportive. I have to ask -- have you told them how much better you feel off gluten/conversely how bad you feel when just handling gluten for them? I know I tend to roll along saying everything is fine, until I can no longer roll. If you...
  23. Much of the information out there says that the difference between Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease is the type of damage done to the small intestine by gluten. Your daughter's damage sure sounds like Celiac Disease to me - yet it is confusing that she doesn't have the genes for Celiac Disease - hmm Is there a reason you need to have a firm Celiac...
  24. From August 2011 - March 2012 I felt better than I ever had my entire life! Until I removed all possible food intolerances last August I never knew how sick I really had been. I had energy, no problem exercising, was mentally clear for 16 hours a day and was on my way to getting my career back on track -- it was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately I...
  25. Yes, these are negative results. Were you tested due to Celiac symptoms? If so, you could still have Celiac or Gluten Intolerance. My children all tested negative, but have all had improved health gluten-free. Good Luck
