  1. undeclared sulfites would do it in me -- I can't eat anything that ends in -ite! I'll read up on that one for sure! Thanks Skylark!
  2. Last August I removed every possible food intolerance and then trialed each food separately over the past 6 months. All of my reactions were very clear with the exception of potato. I should add that all other nightshades had very bad reactions. When I initially trialed potato I had no reaction. They remained out of my diet while I trialed other foods...
  3. That is not a stupid question and even if it were -- this is the place to ask any question with regard to Celiac Disease! Your theory would be true if comparing just you and I because I had severe symptoms for many years before I was finally diagnosed - my original endo revealed severe villi atrophy and all my biopsies were very high on the Marsh Scale...
  4. Hello Seifer- It does sound like food intolerance. Upon going gluten free you change to other grains, legumes and nuts to replace the gluten items. My digestive symptoms improved a great deal during my first year gluten free, but other symptoms got much worse. It took me a long time of trying to remove one item at a time before I decided to remove...
  5. Celiac diagnosis is tough on anyone...there are so many different facets to Celiac that it is often mis-diagnosed and even when one is lucky enough to have "classic" symptoms or a doctor that thinks to run the Celiac Panel -- it remains a very difficult process to be diagnosed...followed by even more confusion as one learns the ins, outs and allovers of gluten...
  6. At one point post celiac diagnosis I was supplementing with B, D, Calcium, Malic Acid and specific amino acids for over a year...I had great improvement for about 4-6 months...then became much worse until I was bedridden. In August I eliminated all possible food intolerance and have been improving steadily and have far more good days then bad. Today...
  7. This could be a slippery slope. Should someone eat something containing gluten once in awhile and not have major discomfort afterward it would likely lead to eating gluten more the once in a great while -- by the time they have symptoms they may have caused serious damage to their digestive track. I know with my 18 year old son -- each time he ate...
  8. Glad you are already getting the testing underway. I know it is not possible to worry about our children - but remember IF your daughter is celiac she will feel better once gluten has been removed. The transition is not easy - but my 18 yr old son went gluten-free at 15 and aside from maybe one or two slips when everyone else was eating pizza he has...
  9. I developed such reaction to seeds while trialing foods on elimination diet - first reaction we handled with benedryl - second was much worse. Before the seed reaction I had almost got an epi-pen for exercise/heat induced anaphylaxis. Because of the seed reaction I have not trialed nuts and am not sure I will. I've been carrying epi pens everywhere for...
  10. Yes. Although I do enjoy my meals - it is very frustrating to not being able to eat anything processed - I MISS salty snacks to most - especially when those around me are crunch, crunch, crunching.... It has gotten easier to stick to it as my health improves - somedays are fine - yet today is a pity party day - probably because I don't feel well and...
  11. "CD3 immunostain demonstrates increased intraepithelial lymphocytes throughout most of the architecturally preserve villi" Increased lymphocytes is certainly part of Celiac Disease...that your villi seem to have little damage is great news. I don't recall what your tTG IgA result was...there are often false negatives, but positive is positive for Celiac...
  12. Sounds both you and your daughter should have a celiac panel -- I'd add in all Bs, D, K, Iron, Ferritin, Copper and Zinc (these can show if you are having any problems absorbing nutrients due to intestinal damage). If your celiac panels return negative, you could still have an endoscopy to see if there is blunting of your villi and/or have several biopsies...
  13. I found out over the holidays that most of Sees candy is indeed gluten-free! Someone bought a box into the office -- they always offer things to me first so no one with gluten hands touch first I did a quick internet search and found most of the candy in the box was gluten-free...I was able to pick a few that met all of my dietary restrictions so I made...
  14. After three days of green smothies I continued to detox on meat, vegies and fruit for a couple weeks then trialed each of the remmoved foods individually without adding any back during challenges. I was amazed with all the crazy and diverse reactions to the different foods - it is not easy - but the gains outweigh the hardships - except when I have a...
  15. Does your daughter want to re-test? Sounds like she has her answer already if she has had improvement in her health while gluten-free and problems with small amounts of gluten. AND she could go back on gluten (many suggest three weeks isn't long enough for blood work) have another negative blood test -- all for nothing but a set back in her health improvement...
  16. Apple, Pear, Blueberry, Spinach, Kale smoothie. A bit later -- eggs scrambled with onion and topped with cheese.
  17. A positive tTG IgA blood test confirms Celiac Disease -- but there are often false negatives. With your symptoms it can not hurt you to go Gluten Free -- it is not easy to make the transition long term, but well worth it if it brings health. Glad you have already had the blood work along with endo. It will be interesting to get the pathology report...
  18. Welcome! Yes, your symptoms could very well be Celiac. At the very least it should be ruled out. Caution -- Do not remove gluten until you have had the Celiac Panel of blood work because if you remove gluten your body may not be producing the antibodies that show up in the blood work. Additionally, should you and your GI Doc decide to do an endoscopy...
  19. Daughter now 28, dx'd Celiac at 25 when I was finally dx'd. She was dx'd with Lupus at 13 - over the years she was additionally diagnosed with RA, Fibro, Sjogrens, had her gallbladder removed was on heavy medication for Lupus and a lot of other medical issues. Removing gluten at 25 was a turning point that improved some of her health concerns but not all...
  20. Just read another article about him. He did indeed have an enlarged heart in addition to the kidney and blood clot issues. Just a guess, but I think he probably was diagnosed with SLE, not just "Lupus Like".
  21. That is interesting...the article doesn't mention treatment so speculation is hard...I believe gluten intolerance and/or Celiac Disease is involved in many if not all autoimmune diseases. My daughter had been diagnosed with Lupus, RA, Sjogren's, Fibro, etc before I was diagnosed Celiac. She has had improvement with some of those since removing gluten and...
  22. I had never removed Soy until my full elimination diet and boy what a reaction I got when I trialed a cup of soybeans! Here is my note from my food log 9/23/11: "Major bloat - 8 months prego within 20 minutes of eating one cup soybeans - next day none had digested." Hope that wasn't TMI -- hope no one is eating while reading this post
  23. Thanks for this thread....I'll be having an MRI in the coming months as MS has never been ruled out for me. Although your results are indeed very scary I imagine there is relief of getting some answers. Hoping your health improves each day and thanks again for sharing
  24. Had to jump into the end of the conversation here because I was laughing out loud. My nickname to family and close friends is "bubble girl" -- on top of all my food issues I am allergic to heat and exercise so my husband and sons joke about making me a suit like Mr. Freeze wore in Batman to ride my bike and run in the heat of the day
  25. I use Bob's Red Mill Chocolate and Vanilla to make cakes and cupcakes and have frozen chocolate cupcakes...think the longest was just under a month as teens found my stash If you add choc chips (dark or semi-sweet) to the chocolate cake mix you get the most sinful chocolate cake...it is what I make for everyone's birthdays -- family, co-workers, etc...
