  1. We don't eat out much...maybe once every few months for the reason you mentioned - it's just not worth getting sick. When we do eat out it is usually an occasion with family/friends that we don't want to miss and I never enjoy myself - hoping that will improve at some point. Now Foods - Super Enzymes -- I take 4 before a restaurant meal. I used to take...
  2. Hi All- Bumping this back to the top as I have just started full elimination diet. I was dx'd Celiac in March 2009 - was very slow to get better, but did finally improve a great deal - felt healthy for the first time in years! Unfortunately good health only lasted about 8 months - my digestive symptoms stayed at bay for a long time with mainly fibromyalgia...
  3. We have several celiacs in my family and we all become more and more sensitive as time went on. One of my teen aged sons will occasionally (one item once every few months at school or social activity) ingest gluten on purpose, each time he became sicker and for longer. I think he's gone about 4 months without a slip now and he says he's done with tempting...
  4. #3 - Pursue it. ALL of my kids and grandkids had negative celiac panels. Mine was only marginally positive at 43 years old - turns out I had serious intestinal damage and celiac was diagnosed by biopsy. Back to kids...they all had negative panels and ALL improved gluten-free. We chose to eliminate gluten as a test rather than push docs to endoscopy...
  5. My teens and my daughter's kids never had official dx and have not as yet run into a situation when they need one. Hope your son feels better very soon. Good Luck!
  6. Welcome! You've already received excellent responses - you must stay gluten-free for life! Your family and friends are learning right along side you so their views may change over time. I haven't had to explain our need to eat gluten-free for well over a year, but I do remember feeling like it was the only thing I was talking about for the months following...
  7. I second Skylark. My kids all tested negative but all improved gluten-free. Your doctor already said weak positive, so that combined with improvement from eliminating gluten should be enough for a diagnosis should you need one. Personally I think the most important part of your statement is that your son is ready to go gluten-free. If his symptoms improve...
  8. The tests can be negative! Mine were only marginally positive, yet my damage was severe with several positive biopsies. My daughter, sons and grandchildren ALL had negative blood panels - one son (17), daughter (27) and her kids (2,4) all improved gluten-free, last son shows some minor symptoms, but has not gone gluten-free (he still eats gluten out...
  9. I've got similar symptoms - thought I'd note that my sensitivity to CC got worse the longer I was gluten-free. Our family's kitchen went totally gluten-free in steps. First we had separate areas, toasters, etc. Slowly we found it was easy to prepare most things gluten-free so we only had a few items left for the gluten eaters (bread, cereal, etc). Eventually...
  10. Yes, Gluten Free cooking becomes easy with time. As already stated most recipes can be made gluten-free by replacing the flour - others only need a few minor adjustments. For a long time I googled gluten-free recipes first, now I generally google regular recipes first because it is easier to replace a few ingredients - rather than shop for 12 different...
  11. I had a rough time when I was newly diagnosed - some symptoms got worse, but my digestive issues improved over the first six months (very slowly) - digestive enzymes helped a lot.
  12. $150 NO way, not ever - $100K absolutely, especially if I get to choose the item!
  13. I too had nightmares for the first year or so. They became fewer as time went on...I haven't had a gluten nightmare nor anxiety that an item is gluten free for quite sometime. Thank goodness...although I am starting a very strict elimination diet so I hope bad dreams and anxiety aren't part of the deal this time around.
  14. Hang in there...wish I could tell you that the reactions will improve. Over the past year I have become beyond hypersensitive to Gluten. Micro amounts cause me to bloat within the hour...which continues for hours after and I become achy and at times very emotional. I am fortunate that each time I have felt almost all better the next morning. We now...
  15. We've been purchasing our gluten-free pastas from Amazon for several months...recently they have been offering an additional 25% off on top of the subscribe and save discount of 15% -- you do have to order in bulk - most brands are come in boxes of 12 packages. I've been paying between $14-20 for a box of 12 packages with free shipping -- kind of nice having...
  16. The internet has allowed ordinary individuals to take more control of their medical destiny - we can now circumnavigate the strength of the drug companies to find all the potential ways to improve our health - outside of the prescription drug possibilities. Please do not misunderstand - for many ailments medical research has produced amazing results...
  17. Great info -- here is a video about their work Open Original Shared Link
  18. The mix sounds like a possibility - does the label state "gluten free" or are the ingredients just gluten-free? Does it mention whether it is produced in the same facility or production line as wheat? Accidental glutenings are nearly impossible to avoid 100% - my reaction is pretty violent, but I do take digestive enzymes as soon as I bloat - 1st sign...
  19. First step is take a deep breath. Everyone regardless of age has difficulty understanding how seemingly healthy food could be hurting them. The first few months are not easy, but you will learn how to eat without gluten. Baking is EZ - I make delicious brownies, cakes, cookies and even make a cheesecake that everyone loves - I never cared for cheesecake...
  20. Thanks to everyone's generous help during 2009 - I can say this is the best New Year's Day I've had it many many years and I am hopeful for even more improvement this new year. Wishing each of you a healthy 2010! Lisa and her grateful family.
  21. I had all the same symptoms you listed. I was dx'd with Celiac Disease in March of this year and Fibromyalgia in October after over 20years of these symptoms worsening with no diagnosis. My first months of gluten-free brought improvement to my bloating and other digestive issues, but none of the Fibro symptoms improved until just recently - I'm 9 months...
  22. Hi All- We'll be staying in Tahoe - North side of the lake and are wondering if anyone can suggest a restaurant that can manage gluten-free for our New Year's Eve meal? Thanks and Happy New Year!
  23. I have taken the following for nine months: Multi, Calcium with Mag and D, B-6/B-12 combo, fish oil - morning Added the following when diagnosed with Fibro: Malic Acid - 800mg morning and afternoon Added about 6 weeks ago: L-Tryptophan at bedtime and N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine in the morning. Added 3 weeks ago: Tyrosine with afternoon Malic...
  24. it's a combo...severe bloat the night i ate more nuts than usual and bad D the next day haven't had even mild bloat since removing nuts this past 6 days
  25. I've been improving so very much this past month that I have finally found another problem. I have kept my food journal pretty regularly during healing, but could never figure out what was causing my occasional bloat -- each time I was certain I hadn't been glutened and nothing stood out as the cause. So the other day I was busy (God it is great to be...
