ARCHIVED Food Sensitivity Masked By Eating It With Other Foods?
GottaSki replied to desperateforhealth's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Mushroom- Yes my gas actually got worse after going gluten-free. I am not sure what caused this - although I suspect it was corn as I increased the amount of corn as our diet evolved away from gluten. Ps the swithfoot guys are great to uplift us all and happen to hail from san diego - north county coastal. Best...Lisa -
ARCHIVED Food Sensitivity Masked By Eating It With Other Foods?
GottaSki replied to desperateforhealth's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi dee ho- just wanted to add to the gassy topic. I had horrible, aweful, increasingly smelly gas over the past five years....I tried in vane to isolate my problem foods until I did full elimination. It is extremely difficult at first, yet finding everything that was causing my failing health is priceless -- added bonus - I've been gas free for months... -
ARCHIVED What Kind Of Doc To Test Food Intolerances?
GottaSki replied to ucemmy22's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I do not believe there is one doctor and certainly no test that can pinpoint each food intolerance if this is your problem. After 25 years of misdiagnosiis, doctors telling me my symptoms were stress, hormone or depression related I was dx'd with celiac. I did not improve gluten-free - in fact I became much sicker until I eliminated every possible intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Help!...oh, Please Help!
GottaSki replied to waterfront's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I've only had the rash once, but have had severe episodes of itching that last for several days to a month. It is enough to drive you MAD. My severe itching episodes seem to be part of my body detoxing - except for one rash just before I was diagnosed with Celiac -- it is just severe, creepy, crawling itching everywhere from head to toe. Have had more... -
ARCHIVED Going Crazy-Need Help Please
GottaSki replied to varthurs's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Mushroom. A positive tTG IgA is not possible without your immune system reacting to Gluten - while a negative result does not rule out Celiac Disease. Going gluten-free seems like the best next step if you are certain you don't want an endo. I've gone back in forth about the need for my initial endoscope. Over the past few years I thought... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Decide Whether I Should Eat Eggs Or Not
GottaSki replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just finished six months of very strict elimination diet. Egg was the very first item I trialed and the only item that I kept in my diet during the rest of my trials...loved eggs scrambled with different vegies a few times a week. Guess I figured it was a great addition to my meat/vegi/fruit diet. I'd agree with remove eggs for at least a week or... -
ARCHIVED Will Celiac Disease Go Away Once My Leaky Gut Is Gone?
GottaSki replied to alicewa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You are welcome...glad I popped back by...this thread really perked my hope for getting some items back in time. Have a great weekend -
ARCHIVED Will Celiac Disease Go Away Once My Leaky Gut Is Gone?
GottaSki replied to alicewa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Some Day Oh...I did find out something interesting about nightshades (well tomato). My cousin's hubby was involved in the science of genetically altering foods until he became unhappy with his research and left academia to become an organic pig/poultry farmer 30 years ago -- anyway he suggested I trial heirloom tomatoes to make sure that my intolerance... -
I can't tolerate any item that ends in -ite or -ate along with basically anything that is added to food to preserve it. During a six month strict elimination diet I was eating only whole foods and have now given up processed foods for the most part...hoping with healing I'll be able to eat some items again one day.

Ditto. Patience is not just a virtue...with Sillyaks it is a necessity -
ARCHIVED Will Celiac Disease Go Away Once My Leaky Gut Is Gone?
GottaSki replied to alicewa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know that I'll never be able to eat gluten again - nor do I want to. However, I am hopeful that once time has passed my gut will heal and once again tolerate some of the other foods I've lost. I just finished six months of trialing foods on a strict elimination diet and plan to re-trial the foods I lost once a year for the next few years. Most info... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
GottaSki replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree...look beyond gluten. I was labeled Refractory Celiac -- think about the definition -- Celiac that is not improved by a complete adherence to a Gluten Free Diet. Upon Celiac diagnosis one already knows that their digestive system has been impaired. Additional food intolerance can be a factor. No alergy/blood test will determine this problem... -
ARCHIVED Alchohol Key In Certain Instances?
GottaSki replied to GFDF's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have also found huge improvement in health thru a restricted diet. As for alcohol ~ I gave up caffeine and alcohol for several years as I got sicker and sicker, which did me no favors. I currently drink one cup of coffee in the morning and red wine in the evening - after giving up so many foods, I am thankful to have wine back ~ at least for now -
My primary now runs the following tests on my annually - if I am not visiting my celiac doc: tTG IgA Iron, Ferretin, Copper & Zinc Vits A, B1, B2, B6, B12, D, K and if you haven't had the following tests, it might help rule out other autoimmune disorders: ANA Liver Panel ALL Thyroid Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate C-reactive protein Lastly...

ARCHIVED Brain Fog?
GottaSki replied to maisgf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
All of the above, except learning disabiliy (felt like I had learning disability, but no one saw me that way as I'm in my 40's) ~ mine was very severe and turns out was caused by than more than gluten. I was gluten free for over two years before I started elimination diet that revealed another 10 items causing problems. Good news...it's been 4 months... -
ARCHIVED Running Out Of Foods To Eat
GottaSki replied to allergyprone's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oh...and don't forget to keep a log of when you removed foods...try them again after 6 months or more as healing may bring the ability to digest some of them back. I get to try avocado on Valentine's Day...can't wait -
ARCHIVED Running Out Of Foods To Eat
GottaSki replied to allergyprone's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good Morning and Happy New Year to you! Sounds like you already are on the right track and don't believe a dietician can provide much insight into what you already know. I went to one on the recommendation of my Celiac Doc the week after I was dx'd and already knew more than she did and she was connected with a major Celiac Center! I also have a long... -
ARCHIVED What Does The Average Celiac Look Like
GottaSki replied to cbonner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree--awesome post!!! -- Sillyaks are like any other human in that every human being is DIFFERENT!!! When I was FINALLY diagnosed at 42 two different docs said things like "Celiac, that is a childhood disease" and "I don't think you have Celiac, people with Celiac are very thin" -
ARCHIVED Fed-Up, Frustrated, And Ready To Quit
GottaSki replied to Lys-88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The first weeks and months of gluten-free are the toughest, in my never to be humble opinion! I was in tears at the grocery store...panicked when I had to go to someone's home or meet at a restaurant...etc., etc., etc. Hang in there -- your health is worth the struggle. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! PS most items for thanksgiving meals... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Suffer From Inflammation?
GottaSki replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Never had an abnormal test for inflammation...yet I have lost three pant sizes with only 8-10 pounds of weight loss since starting elimination diet three months ago. I have shrunk everywhere...it is now completely obvious to all that I had inflammation in every part of my body. -
ARCHIVED What Are You Cooking For Thanksgiving?
GottaSki replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanksgiving brings a special day to reflect on how grateful I am that I found the eleven foods that had destroyed my body and played havoc with my children's health. Dinner with twelve or more family members will include: Juicy Turkey with tasty GlutenFree gravy, homemade cranberry sauce (already a Gluten-Free item), Gluten-Free Cornbread Stuffing, gluten... -
ARCHIVED The Most Annoying Thing About Celiac Is...
GottaSki replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hands down...watching my teen-aged sons struggle with the "oh goodness that pizza looks and smells great" while hanging with friends. I got so sick that I'm grateful for health and being in control of my food....yet for my kids the symptoms are bad but not incapacitating...very tough to stick to it in social situations. -
ARCHIVED Newborn - Mother With Celiac
GottaSki replied to Swimmr's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Take her to see her doctor...my Granddaughter was just like that and it was something structural with her digestive system. Highly doubt anything you are eating could bring the reactions she is having. I sent you my email address in case you want to chat as I don't always check this forum. Have a good day! Get some rest whenever you can. -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet - Success Story!
GottaSki replied to GottaSki's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow...that sounds like the perfect place to live from early teen to young adult. I'll have to get your advice when we head North...won't be for several seasons or more as I have one college freshmen and another headed to college in 1.5 years....but once college is paid for I aspire to be a ski bum!!! -
ARCHIVED Newborn - Mother With Celiac
GottaSki replied to Swimmr's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
First - Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby girl! Second - Thanks to you and your husband for his service to our country. Third - If you don't take care of you, you won't be able to care for your baby. Celiac does indeed run in families. All three of my children and two grands have at least a major gluten intolerance along with intolerance...
