ARCHIVED Started This 30 Years To Late, Wish We Had Known Much Earlier :(
GottaSki replied to New-To-This's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Healing prayers for your husband and prayers of strength for you. He can heal. My system was a mess and was very seriously ill when diagnosed in March. At nine months I am feeling younger than I have in 20 years! I hope you both have an easy transition to gluten-free. Sounds like you'll do well because of the frustration of going undiagnosed... -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good Morning All- Wow, could not have had better news - Ktnhsv, so glad that you are giving living gluten-free a try to improve your health! These first days and sometimes first months are the hardest, but you can do it. As you have seen, it is better to ask questions here and get support rather than suffer alone. I do have wonderful news--I am... -
I'm not a teen or young adult, so I tried to send you this in a private message (system wouldn't send so I'm responding on your post). Hope you don't mind. If you are looking for support, you should consider posting where all ages of gluten challenged can help. As for your question about whether you have Celiac Disease -- your symptoms are consistent...

ARCHIVED Everything Came Back Normal
GottaSki replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are referring to the work the Stanford and/or Australian Researchers are conducting -- I think you'll find that many with gluten issues would prefer to continue living Gluten Free. When I was first diagnosed I thought it would be great if there could be a way to eat gluten safely -- I've changed my mind and now ask -- Why would I want medical intervention... -
What a wonderful day for you Miss May! Here's wishing you many more. I know we turned a corner somewhere between 1-4 months gluten-free that it actually wasn't a chore at all and our food tasted better -- might be because it wasn't making me as sick? Cheers & Happy Friday to you!

ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, now I'm starting to feel like a gluten-free Salesperson (just kidding ) So if the difficulty of craving wheat, dairy and sugar is the road block -- just throwing this out there and not endorsing it -- Can you bake? If so, bake lots of sugary treats -- cookies, cakes, brownies, etc - Hey you can make some very sweet rice crispy treats even... -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Long Did It Take You To Get Pregnant After You Started Trying?
GottaSki replied to Becci's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mine were all many years ago when I had mild to moderate Celiac Disease symptoms that I didn't know were Celiac Disease yet. I actually think my honey's swimmers were more of a problem than my health -- he quit drinking and I was pregnant one month later (we'd been married, but not trying - just a few accidents for 5 years)????? -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here - Hubby Recently Diagnosed
GottaSki replied to MindytheOrganist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our pantry items went to the Food Bank and our fridge/freezer got lovingly dumped in my sister's kitchen -- they don't cook as much as we do -- so they were shocked at the amount of food we kept on a regular basis -- I think they were able to use most of it. How about a local church or homeless agency -- they may be able to steer you towards someone that... -
Well said and I whole-heartedly agree! I first heard "Gold Standard" from my Celiac Specialist. He is a wonderful physician given what is currently understood about Celiac Disease. In my never to be humble opinion -- Our current medical system needs to somehow remove the insurance companies from the driver's seat -- now if I could only come up with...

ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone is right...this is not a punishment. My family eats the same or even better than before. Even the non-celiacs are feeling better in our household. Miscellaneous family and friends are amazed at how good our cooking is -- most were afraid to come for dinner once I was diagnosed and explained that we needed to remove gluten. It does take a while... -
I don't have information specific to Iodine and Celiac Disease, but can tell you I supplement with Fish Oil (had been lemon flavored Cod Liver Oil for about 7 months, but I recently switched to a Fish Oil capsule because I take enough supplements that it was getting hard to drink the spoonful of oil). I thought that small amounts of Iodine were important...

Welcome Miss May! You certainly owe no apologies -- we have all gone thru what you are experiencing. I can't imagine anyone would jump for joy at the opportunity to examine every item that goes in ones mouth. Rest assured it does become easier and then second nature with time. Be good to yourself right now and ask away...there are always people...

ARCHIVED Help With Enterolab Results
GottaSki replied to Jaxella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not an expert, but it looks like you are definitely gluten intolerant. The tTG IgA is also positive which means you probably have Celiac Disease. Negative tTG IgA can still have Celiac Disease and Positive tTG IgA rarely don't have Celiac Disease. Personally I was diagnosed first with Celiac Disease and then Fibromyalgia. It is much more common... -
ARCHIVED Gas After Eating
GottaSki replied to Barretts mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This does happen to me, not regularly, but enough that it sounds familiar. I think I've narrowed it down to the days that I eat more nuts than other days. My guess would be something else in your diet that you eat each day. A food log may be the best way to figure it out - then remove only one item that you are eating at a time to figure it out. I'm... -

GottaSki replied to nascentes morimur's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! I don't have much to offer, but surely someone else in this group will come up with suggestions. I am curious how long you have been gluten/soy/dairy free? Hope you find a solution very soon. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tuesday
GottaSki replied to dmurth01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Very glad that everything looked normal on your biopsy -- I'm glad because although you could still have Celiac, if you do perhaps there hasn't been severe damage -- which means if you do improve on a gluten-free diet you should heal very quickly. Great News! and have a wonderful trip! P.S. Can you eat a gluten filled bagel for me? lol -
Ordering food in can be more difficult -- I've found very few restaurants that make me comfortable that I am actually receiving gluten-free food -- we generally prepare our food ourselves and are dining out less frequently than pre-Celiac. Here is a link to Gluten Free in San Diego -- it may be a good place for you to search for more info: Open Original...

Welcome and I am sorry that you are feeling poorly. Couple thoughts: Is it possible that you are feeling more ill on Saturdays because you don't have class or other commitments? If you are busy all week long and still healing since your recent diagnosis you may just need a down day to rest. If so, give yourself permission to rest. Of course this...

Unfortunately she would need to be eating gluten -- I believe it's 4-6 weeks for blood work to show elevated antibodies. -
ARCHIVED Why Is This Such A Popular Condition For People To Self Diagnose With?
GottaSki replied to silvertail's topic in Publications & Publicity
Sad, but very true! I just want to slap the memory of those dismissive doctors -- and I generally am not a violent person My son and I order this same way -- then more specific when the rare server says - "Oh you have Celiac Disease" - those words are music to my ears and unfortunately rarely offered. I read a great example this week... -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I should add that when I was diagnosed I became extremely frustrated that my improvement was not dramatic as some that post had. Everyone heals at a different rate and can have different level of damage to their intestine. It can take up to two years to completely heal, although there will be many minor improvements before that if gluten is the issue... -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have most definitely improved with all my digestive issues - I am even losing weight (about 20 pounds this past 9 months) - I had unexplained weight gain for years - about 5-10 pounds every year! Also my vitamins/mineral blood tests have all improved every three months since eating gluten-free and supplementing with vitamins - multi, B, D, Fish Oil... -
ARCHIVED Why Is This Such A Popular Condition For People To Self Diagnose With?
GottaSki replied to silvertail's topic in Publications & Publicity
I forgot about those with autism - that is another big one. Celiac Disease does not automatically make gluten and/or wheat and allergy for you. I test negative for all food allergies including wheat, but I sure do have the auto-immune reaction to gluten. -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
GottaSki replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good Morning ktnhsv- If you found the possibility of Celiac on your own, I'd say your best (least frustrating and least expensive) route is too go gluten-free for at least a couple months. I did have many symptoms similar to yours. As a busy mother of five, I'd imagine that feeling better is more of a concern than an official diagnosis. If your... -
