  1. Are you certain you are getting a stomach ache from eating meat? The reason I ask is that I used to believe my stomach bothered me when I ate steak - turns out it was nearly everything I was eating with the meal. Same with pizza - my stomach always bothered me and I thought it was the tomato sauce - turns out it was the crust. I'm not doubting you...
  2. I'd say your assumption is spot on. The dramatic drop in antibodies is proof that her efforts to remain gluten free are working. I also agree with KarenG that you should get a copy of the endoscopy report so that she has it for her history. While it is beneficial to have a GI that specializes in Celiac Disease - it is far more important that you had...
  3. I'd say Tommy's Mommy is smart to question the need of the endoscopy. Positive blood plus improved health by removing gluten = Celiac Disease. Given his reaction to gluten I don't see a benefit to adding it back into his diet to confirm what you already know to be true. Additionally, since he has already had improvement gluten-free - the endo may not be...
  4. My teens always take their lunch: A piece of chicken or a sandwich (either p-nut butter, chicken or pork mixed with BBQ sauce on Udi's bread). An apple or grapes. Either water or juice.
  5. Yummy! Sounds like you should hide one pint of bread and butter pickles in with your pickling supplies so that next year you can celebrate the completion of your duties on Pickle Day
  6. Welcome! Given that she has Celiac Disease on both sides of her family along with digestive symptoms and inflammation detected - it seems prudent to rule out Celiac Disease. The endoscopy is not a bad idea as it could give you the answers you are looking for -- make sure the doctor takes at least 6-8 samples of the small intestine for biopsy. Some...
  7. Your energy levels are higher than they have been in years in just two short weeks! You will likely have other improvements as your time gluten free increases - keep a list of symptom improvement - digestive, energy, skin, hair, nails. There is no reason to trial gluten - especially at only a few weeks in. If you aren't convinced by symptom improvement...
  8. I'm a bit confused with regard to the timing of your testing. When did you get positive antibody test - before or after gluten-free for 4 months? Was it tTG IgA? If is was a positive tTG IgA - that is Celiac - not Dairy/Soy intolerance or allergy. As for best possible endoscopic results with regard to Celaic Disease - if you've been gluten-free for 4...
  9. I agree with everything that Ravenwood said. The positive blood test definitely trumps negative biopsy as there can be many reasons for a false negative - any time gluten-free before the endo, the experience of the GI with Celiac Disease, the amount of biopsies taken, etc. Another very important test result was that she improved rapidly on a gluten...
  10. I agree with Chad - bacteria is part of the equation. My son's GERD nearly disappeared during his first months gluten free. It slowly returned. Seems to be doing better since we've added daily probiotic - took several weeks before we noticed improvement.
  11. Welcome Dan! This sounds VERY convincing to me: "Feeling better since being off gluten. It's only been a week." Continue to live gluten free - many times the test of removing gluten is far more accurate than any medical test. Make sure you remove ALL gluten - it can be hidden in many, many foods. Clean kitchen of all gluten - replace...
  12. Sounds like a good plan to stick with the diet that is making you feel good and not challenge anything for at least six months. I am 47 too - the constipation definitely got worse the 5-10 years before I was diagnosed at 43. I have no doubt that undiagnosed celiac / gluten ingestion was the problem for me all along. Hang in there - sounds like...
  13. Raw food diet can be tough on a healing gut. I'm not suggesting it is the cause of the constipation - just it can be tough for your body to handle all raw vegies right now. In your first post you said between constipation and gluten symptoms - are other symptoms improving on your current diet?
  14. p.s. Also noticed that you went gluten-free in March of this year...it is possible that you simply haven't had enough time to heal. Depending on the damage to your intestines it can take a very long time to heal completely.
  15. Hi Sara- You are not alone in having chronic constipation rather than diarrhea with celiac. I've battled different degrees of constipation my entire life. My celiac doctor was the first doctor that ever wanted to have a detailed discussion with regard to constipation - very frustrating to get docs to understand. Many doctors still don't know that...
  16. Is this exactly how it was written? Very confusing, but I THINK the capital N's are your results - hard to tell which test correlates to which result. If I am correct this would mean all your tests were negative. Please double check this is how it was written - maybe someone else will have a better take on it.
  17. Hi Chrissy- I didn't know Target carried - so I checked mine and found a Hearty Grain - just thought I'd check if your Target carried the "white" as I thought of your son when I picked ours up today and wanted to be sure you were able to try his cinnamon toast with white, not grain bread. Hope all is going well!
  18. I see no reason to challenge unless the individual doing the challenge is the person that is not convinced that they need to be gluten-free. You already know you need to live gluten-free, there is no reason to make yourself sick to please others. Stick with what you know to be true. Remind others that you are not asking them to give up gluten, just...
  19. Tom- I was speaking directly to your comment which I referenced in my last post - "And sorry but I can't help but throw in that Common Sense tells ppl that heavier things fall faster." I should have kept the thought in my last post to myself - as it is not relevant to this thread. -Lisa
  20. Ok...perhaps I should have said IMHO...but come on I can help myself but still choose to point out that the wording of your posts indicate no regret in pointing out problems in the wording of my posts.
  21. In case you are interested...I did find a source for a celiac panel without a doctor - one of my kids is considering a gluten challenge within the next year as his original celiac panel was negative. He has had improved health since going gluten-free, but he doesn't have as severe reactions to accidental glutenings as his siblings hence the question in his...
  22. Most cost effective is to go completely gluten-free and monitor changes in symptoms. Get yourselves healthy - then worry about testing/gluten challenge down the road if one of your kids questions their need to be gluten-free.
  23. GFinDC Love the calculation - don't even want to think how many days, hours and minutes have been lost due to mis-diagnosis of Celiac -- it took 22 million minutes just for me to get diagnosed -- okay I have had some pretty great minutes in there despite severe symptoms
  24. Hello! If you were gluten free at any time proceeding your testing, your results may not be accurate. High tTG IgG can indicate Celiac Disease. The problem is there are other autoimmune diseases that can cause a high tTG IgG. So the IgG alone can not diagnose Celiac Disease. One other consideration where the IgG is more effective in diagnosing...
  25. No. It may be true that many people may "feel" better eating gluten free, but it is certainly not true that "almost everyone" is sensitive to gluten. I don't see a reason to wean them gradually. Just make sure you have some of their favorite gluten-free foods at the ready &/or replicate some of their gluten-filled favorites with gluten-free versions...
