  1. Welcome! I highly suggest removing all gluten from his diet for at least three months - this is often the best test with small children. I can tell you from experience. When I was finally diagnosed at age 43, I had very little improvement during the first weeks. My grandson at the time was 18 months old and had never had a solid stool - his mother and...
  2. Ah...I'm don't know much about positive allergy testing...maybe someone else can chime in if this test indicates that you are allergic to gluten. Whether you have an allergy to gluten, celiac disease or gluten intolerance - the solution is identical - remove ALL gluten. Your CRP indicates inflammation in the body.
  3. Ditto - I tested positive for a few environmental allergens, but no foods. Allergy testing will not indicate Celiac Disease, nor Food Intolerance - there are a few foods that cause full anaphylaxis with me, yet I tested negative for allergy more than once by blood and skin. It is a very good idea to be tested to find out if you are allergic -- but...
  4. First - the IgA and IgG antibody tests are far less accurate if you are gluten free or even gluten lite - because if you are not ingesting gluten, your body has no reason to produce the antibodies measured in the blood tests. Second - I'm a bit confused with regard to which Gluten Antibody Tests you had. This is a Full Celiac Blood Panel: Total...
  5. Hi Andy! I just read your original post today - I was near tears - then I got to your post from today and was so very happy to hear the progress you've made with your diet and with your doctor. It is awful to read about yet another person that went undiagnosed/misdiagnosed for so many years - generations in your case - but how wonderful to hear you...
  6. Great article - I knew coconut oil was beneficial, but this article explains the benefit/detriment of all oils very simply. Thanks for sharing pricklypear!
  7. You do need to look for a new doctor. I don't often recommend - I advocate working with doctors in partnership. BUT, in this case she does not understand the significance of the low Total IgA AND she is dismissing your list of symptoms - many of the symptoms you listed can be caused by nutrient deficiency. Most doctors are not educated in nutrition...

    ARCHIVED Follow Up With Doctor

Hi Kitty- These are the tests my Celiac Doc recommended in additional to Full Celiac Panel - at Dx, at 6 months then annually thereafter: Bs, D, K, Iron, Ferritin, Copper and Zinc I've seen others suggest adding vitamin A to the list. Good luck to you!
  9. There are several IgA & IgG tests in the full panel. This is the danger of just running the screening of tTG IgA. In Celiac Disease antibodies to both IgA and IgG are produced in reaction to gluten. If you have very low total IgA, your body is unable to produce IgA Antibodies. This is the reason the Total IgA is run. When it is low, there should...
  10. Good Morning- Here is a link that explains my strict elimination diet experience. I had better health then EVER in my life for about eight months. I did have a autoimmune type flare a few months ago that has been a huge set back, but this information remains relevant as I can not yet eat any of the items I removed from the experiment. There were...
  11. Great result and plan Dad! Given your answers with regard to her body type, exercise, etc. - it certainly sounds like additional food intolerance. Removing dairy is a great place to start. Not sure it was mentioned before -- if you find she is intolerant of something, it doesn't mean she will be intolerant for life. Trial any removed items at...
  12. This happened to me at age 43 at about a month gluten-free. My appetite slowed with time, but I was not a growing 8 year old. I'd guess his body is just very happy to be given food that doesn't hurt. Your son's digestive system was likely hurting all along, but it was his "normal" so he didn't know what it was like to eat food and not have it bother him...
  13. Sounds to me like the organizers of this year's breakfast don't eat much fruit themselves. In my opinion - when something like this is planned by parents it often changes "flavor" from year to year. Are they serving fruit in addition to the sausage/toast? Perhaps you could speak or email one of the organizers to let them know that: 1) They have excluded...
  14. It is extremely frustrating, but it will get better. You are doing what you can. By adjusting your diet and asking questions you will figure this out. That your face isn't swelling is a big improvement...give your gut time - it has been bloating for a long time, it may take some time to heal. You are not alone - it took many months for my digestive...
  15. Thanks - I did not know there was a home tTG IgA test available. I am glad you had a full celiac panel done. If I'm remembering you correctly, you had symptoms that indicate Celiac Disease - if all your blood tests come back normal it is a very good idea to remove all gluten for at least three months as this is often the best test to determine if gluten...
  16. Forgive me, what is a BioCard? I just can't imagine a test like the one in the picture can be accurate to diagnose or rule out Celiac Disease, when it is often difficult to get accurate answers with blood tests. Does this product claim to diagnosis/rule out Non Celiac Gluten Intolerance as well? Thanks!
  17. We have all had similar frustrations - you are not alone. The transition to being completely gluten-free is very difficult - add to that you just delivered a baby and are likely not getting regular sleep. You will have more emotional moments - heck I was crying in the aisle at the grocery store out of frustration while reading all the itsy bitsy ingredient...
  18. The crispy ones have barley malt - the last time I checked. We stick to plain and peanut
  19. Welcome! PricklyPear is spot on - I agree with each point. Does the bloating get better/worse, bigger/smaller on different days or time of day? Is the rest of her body much smaller by proportion? If so, perhaps she is still getting gluten somewhere. Once gluten is removed many with Celiac Disease become extremely sensitive to minute amounts of gluten...
  20. Hmmm reprogramming my T cells so that I can "safely" ingest gluten -- interesting, but I'll stick with living gluten free. Zonulin research to possibly aid in healing of our highly permeable small intestines along with research to produce enzymes that can aid in protecting our system from small amounts of gluten/CC while dining out are both more interesting...
  21. We evolved into a gluten-free kitchen because three out of four of us have to live gluten-free, but while we were still a combined kitchen - I replaced our 4 slice toaster with two 2 slice toasters and then covered the gluten free - first with a bright green tea towel and later with a toaster cover. Worked great in our house. Follow everyone's suggestions...
  22. Oh man...I am so sorry to hear that you are hurting again. Something similar happened to me. I was healthier than I ever had been in my life for eight months last year. I had only added four foods back in that I had no reactions to for about a month when I had major, major backslide. I also went back to full elimination mode but have yet to get rid...
  23. I agree that you should completely remove gluten and watch for more health improvement. I believe it would be wise to call your primary doctor to order a full celiac panel along with the vitamins/minerals listed above -- add vitamin Bs to the list. If you take all the blood tests now, you will have the data to compare in the future. Get the blood done...
  24. The GI is correct that they should be tested again. I've read that re-tests should take place at 3-5 year intervals - unless symptoms arise. Celiac Disease can be triggered at any age. If they already have symptoms with negative blood work - gluten should be completely removed for at least three months to monitor symptoms. I don't have an answer...
  25. I agree with the bread comments - but don't know of any problems with their flours. My two cents says don't buy this combo pack unless you already have need for all the items in it -- the bargain is greatly diminished if several of the items go unused. When we were newly gluten free I bought oodles of different flours for each recipe I found. Within...
