ARCHIVED How To Make Someone Understand
GottaSki replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My sister is this way. For the first couple years I tried to find safe foods so I could go out with her - she had no problem letting me pick the restaurant. Once my intolerance list increased it became impossible to eat anywhere so I started toting my own food. Now if I'm going out with her I pack a salad or other simple meal - I have a cute soft cooler... -
ARCHIVED Have You Felt Any Of These Symptoms?
GottaSki replied to Danondan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree - you should definitely get tested. Don't remove gluten until you've completed celiac testing. People often regret trying the diet first, because they lose their best chance for diagnosis. Once testing is complete, remove ALL gluten for at least three months. You primary doctor can order the full celiac blood panel for you to start the process... -
ARCHIVED Not What I Expected
GottaSki replied to ivy light's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"normal" and "negative" mean the same thing in a tTG blood test Glad you got an answer and hope you heal very quickly! -
ARCHIVED Had My Endoscopy- So Confused
GottaSki replied to Momma Bear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And I would report that nurse's comments to the nursing supervisor - she needs additional training on many levels. How dare she say that you are wasting their time. I've had endos twice since diagnosis at my doctors request and will likely have more in the years to come - at least until my small intestine shows improvement - that nurse has no idea what... -
ARCHIVED Had My Endoscopy- So Confused
GottaSki replied to Momma Bear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow. I am sorry for the confusion your endoscopy caused. You can not have a little gluten without causing further damage. I agree call your GI and have him explain the statement. You were deficient in nutrients and you had positive antibodies even after removing gluten - the antibodies would likely have been much higher had you been tested before removing... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Oz Says Don't Go gluten-free If No Symptoms
GottaSki replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Agreed. Celiac Disease was not the focus of this show. I would have preferred a guest doctor that is an expert in Celiac Disease research and a real gluten-free cooking demo (using the items they had on the whole food display), rather than some popular blogger that brought some recipes that could be gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Decide?
GottaSki replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
PS...when you trial foods, make sure it is the whole food. For instance trial with fresh or frozen corn - not corn chips or corn tortillas or slices of tomato rather than spaghetti sauce or salsa. -
ARCHIVED "special" Foods And A Celiac Mindset
GottaSki replied to archaeo in FL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We evolved - at first we put little green dots on everything that was gluten-free. We had always cooked the majority of our food so as time went on we had replaced almost every glutenous item with a gluten-free version. We still had glutenous bread and cereal for my hubby and one teen that hadn't gone gluten-free. I had serious reactions to many foods... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Decide?
GottaSki replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What other foods are you eliminating? Did you remove all grains because they were obviously causing problems for you? If it is a food that you know is causing you problems, remove it for six months then re-introduce it - wait at least three days to see if you have any reaction to it - if no reaction add it back into your diet. If you have a reaction... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Oz Says Don't Go gluten-free If No Symptoms
GottaSki replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do not watch Dr. Oz, but someone mentioned today's show was to be about "gluten free allergy" so I recorded it. I had seen a clip from another show he did on gluten-free was awful because the topic was how unhealthy the "popular gluten free diet" was - without discussing either Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. "The right way to go... -
It is very common for doctors to order just the tTG IgA. Some understand the need for the panel, some will order if asked and some will flat out refuse. Since it is already ordered, get it drawn. If the result is positive on the tTG you will likely be referred to gastroenterology for more testing. If it is negative, I'd ask for the full panel. ...

ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
GottaSki replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not 100% certain you have a problem with gluten either. What you presented was you have unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain after eating bread and donuts, extreme fatigue and feeling like you are not getting energy from your food. Did you have a full celiac blood panel? Did your gastroenterologist take enough samples from the small intestine... -
ARCHIVED Absolutely Frustrating...
GottaSki replied to MrsSprinkles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so sorry you are getting these answers - I got them for over two decades - it's stress, you are overworked, it's hormonal because of your recent pregnancies, you are depressed - I knew in my heart they were wrong, but I did let them dissuade me from pushing for answers until I was so sick there was no choice but to push. Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance... -
I was in an office with a similar circumstance. I always brought my own food, but did have a few problems from using the kitchen, so eventually I didn't touch a thing in it. I brought my food in glass containers, used a paper towel to open and close the microwave and washed my dishes at home. I also had a set of silverware and a sharp knife I kept in my...

ARCHIVED 18M Old - With Genetics Against Her
GottaSki replied to Aprilelayne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Careful with Reflux meds to - I'm not saying to not use them - just my son was on and off them for seven years with no improvement - removed gluten - huge improvement. I am also not saying you or your daughter have a problem with gluten - only that with your symptoms, should the tests all be negative and "normal" I'd strongly suggest removing gluten, it... -
ARCHIVED 18M Old - With Genetics Against Her
GottaSki replied to Aprilelayne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just read this thread -- how awful for your daughter and you. Constant diarrhea is not any child's "normal" and is something to be concerned about. Your daughter did not have a full celiac blood panel. DGP (Deamidated Gliadin Peptide) IgA/IgG are often the first positive tests in children. At the time of my celiac diagnosis at 43, my 18 month... -
ARCHIVED Anorexia Nervosa Induced Gluten Intollerance.
GottaSki replied to Alie J's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your body has been under stress for a long while. Stress can trigger Celiac Disease. It can't hurt to have doctors order a full celiac blood panel. How horrible if you were to sabotage regaining your health by eating foods that are not right for your body. It looks like you are eating a large amount of dairy - cheeses, milk, protein powder ... -
ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
GottaSki replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you need to re-read the responses to your post. NON-CELIAC GLTUEN INTOLERANCE is the cause of your symptoms. There are NO MEDICAL tests that can diagnose this - the only test is completely removing all gluten. You need to remove ALL gluten - not just breads. It is tough to remove all sources, but once you do you will feel better, not necessarily... -
I don't think you'll have a problem - you have a good understanding of Celiac Disease symptoms - that is a great start. Good Luck!
-
Welcome! Great question. You most certainly can ask your family doctor to be tested. Problems can arise because many doctors are not trained, do not have up-to-date knowledge nor experience treating Celiac Disease. There are hundreds of symptoms - many of which look like other conditions which leads to incorrect diagnosis. Some doctors will only...

ARCHIVED Staying On Gluten For Testing...
GottaSki replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There really is no way for anyone to answer this for you. It is possible you may still have positive tests - there just isn't anyway to know what your tests might have been without removing gluten or if 5 days ingesting gluten will raise the antibody levels in your blood. -
ARCHIVED Staying On Gluten For Testing...
GottaSki replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
PS...If you have your primary order blood tests, ask for nutrient testing as well. Another strong indicator of Celiac Disease is deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. My Celiac Doc recommends Bs, D, K, Iron, Ferritin, Copper and Zinc. -
ARCHIVED Staying On Gluten For Testing...
GottaSki replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are no tests for Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance, so even if you had continued to eat gluten, you may not get a clear answer - other than gluten is causing you health problems. Additionally, both blood tests and biopsy can be falsely negative. The tests have their best chance to be accurate when you are consuming gluten. Yes, three weeks is enough... -
ARCHIVED Almond Butter/pb Recall Expanded
GottaSki replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Curious -- anyone know how long it takes to figure out if the problem came from within the plant that produces these products OR if it is possible that other companies could have received problem nuts but have not yet recalled their products. I certainly picked a great week to trial almonds
