  1. I'm not familiar with the brand you are using - I clicked on the link and could not find detailed ingredient info. I'd pass on this brand and use another. I like "NOW" and Source Naturals, but there are several other gluten-free brands available. It can be difficult to find supplements that are soy and corn free, but shouldn't be hard to find gluten-free...
  2. Exactly - that's why the whole panel is important - we all test differently - a positive to any of them along with either family history &/or symptoms is important info. I believe this doctor thinks he is doing the correct thing, just doesn't have a good understanding of the necessity of the whole panel. I remain hopeful that testing will...
  3. Not damage per se - as far as I know a positive deamidated gliadin peptide DGP test only lets you know that the body is creating antibodies to a peptide that is specific to gluten. The question then becomes why is the body is making antibodies? More important to analyzing any one test is that someone that is a first degree relative without symptoms ...
  4. Welcome! Love your screen name - my kids have called gluten "mom's kryptonite" since I was newly diagnosed - about the time I had my first experience with CC at a restaurant. Sorry you are feeling poorly - there really is no way to speed it along besides what you are doing already - ginger root can sooth the stomach issues and lots of water is always...
  5. Great band - favorite of our family - young and not so young "It seems my ship still stands no matter what you drop" Great catch phrase for the tenacity of silly-yaks - so great to hear you had an excellent adventure - inspirational too! Thanks for sharing
  6. With the family history, he certainly should have a full panel - minimally tTG and DGP (it is possible for the DGP IgA or IgG to be positive before there is a positive tTG- which can mean Celiac Disease hasn't caused enough damage for the antibodies to be found in the tTG and EMA tests yet). It is my understanding that EMA can only be positive if tTG is...
  7. Hi Nicole! I hate hearing someone else has a similar history to me - I went undiagnosed for decades - a combination of me toughing out most minor symptoms and doctors completely dismissing symptoms that I brought to them repeatedly as stress, overwork, hormones, motherhood or depression. Although AI disorders do run in together - I wouldn't jump...
  8. IMO The cross-reactive theory is dangerous because it has some truth in it's basis. Yes, those with Celiac Disease often have difficulty with other foods either initially or that develop over time. Are there proteins within certain foods that tend to cause problems - YES. Are these 18 foods the only foods that have proteins that can be problematic - NO...
  9. Welcome to the forum and thanks for the info
  10. It is possible. Was there a lid involved? When we had a combined kitchen I found that the lids weren't being washed as well as the pots - that is when I bought separate pans. Separate pans, cooking utensils and colander in a different color worked great in our kitchen. One other possibility -- perhaps if the sauce was new to you - something besides...
  11. I think someone already mentioned how nightshades (tomoato, potato, peppers and eggplant) are connected to joint pain. When you mentioned eating a lot of beans and rice I thought I'd mention again. Are there spices in either? Peppers of all types fresh or dried spice all cause severe joint pain in me. Any salsa with the meal -- tomato with pepper and...
  12. Darn it - hoping you both feel better very soon
  13. Lectin Lock - very interesting - I'll be adding this to the bag o' tricks - certainly couldn't hurt when I start trialing again. Thanks for sharing
  14. Hi Peg- When I was dx'd my digestive symptoms improved at first - but my other symptoms joint/muscle pain, major fatigue, brain fog, memory issues got much worse and eventually some digestive symptoms returned. For nearly two years I removed either groups of foods or singular foods and kept a fairly detailed food log. I could never pinpoint any food...
  15. So hard when they test negative - not knowing if symptoms are related to gluten or something else...my kids were all teenager or adult when I was finally dx'd. One that tested negative decided on his own to go gluten-free shortly after me to see if he could improve major GERD that never got help with meds along with frequent flu type episodes -- his health...
  16. My mistake...I thought he was gluten-free before and you were challenging. Sure hope you find answers for him!
  17. It is my understanding that the lectins found in quinoa are very similar to wheat lectin - thus can be difficult for people with celiac disease to process. I seem to have problems will all foods with high lectin content - lucky me
  18. Oh I am sorry... My son has good luck with digestive enzymes helping with minor / CC type glutenings - might help a bit. Ginger ale helps my kids, but bothers me -- I do make a tea with ginger root that helps my stomach aches. Not sure if he has been consuming a large quantity of gluten - when I was researching gluten challenge for my other son...
  19. Absolutely - without a doubt. Myself, three kids and two grands all had/have different symptoms - even our reactions to CC or accidental glutening are different.
  20. no meds then or now....maybe it could have been fat malabsorbtion since I was low in every other nutrient measured at diagnosis. Sure didn't seem like I was having a problem absorbing fat -- was always far too heavy for the healthful diet I ate along with getting plenty of exercise. It does makes me curious, but am happy that although I still have serious...
  21. Always ask for hard or electronic copy of ALL medical tests. I learned the hard way - mistakes happen - ten years ago I was told all my tests were ok by a nurse. I then asked specifically to double check one that had been abnormal in previous years. She said, "yes, all your tests were normal". Nine months later I get a call to make sure I followed up...
  22. Still seems strange. When I was extremely low I was out ALL times of the day with at least head, arms, part of legs exposed - only used sunscreen if I was going to be out longer than 1/2 hour. Never wash vigorously afterward...except for my face. Pre- celiac diet was not intentionally low fat - sure I was getting plenty between meat, cheese and oils/butter...
  23. I find this subject very interesting. At diagnosis my D was at 17 - I live in sunny San Diego and rarely missed at least a 45 minute walk outside - most days I was out in the sun much more than that. I have been above 35 for about a year, but don't think I would have got there without supplementation. So while sunshine is very important - for vitamin...
  24. Thanks for answering...no wonder you have doubt. You should have been diagnosed in 1999. I still think your six months gluten-free confirms the 1999 Dx. What does your doctor make of the 1999 lab report? If there is doubt regarding the diagnosis how does the doctor explain your dietary response -- perhaps Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance -- same end game...
  25. Hi Laura and pass a welcome to your Sis! It is not possible to become intolerant of gluten by removing it from one's diet. I have seen a several references to this over the past year and it is not true. There are MANY foods we don't eat on a regular basis - if we developed an intolerance every time we didn't eat a particular food for some time - EVERYONE...
