  1. I wanted to be clear about something: I think it is probably unusual, not common to have damage at a year. I did have very severe damage at diagnosis - I didn't mean to suggest everyone with Celiac Disease would have the same results - only to show that sometimes post gluten free endoscopy do show damage. There are NO absolutes in those with Celiac...
  2. I think that sounds like a wonderful idea ~ good luck in your job search ~ they will be lucky to have you
  3. I understand how frustrating and unclear the diagnosis process can be. Then comes learning to remove gluten which sounds overwhelming. IT IS worth it to improve your son's health and does get much easier with time. There is no reason not to remove gluten immediately after the endoscopy. The treatment for Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease are identical...
  4. I've never had TJ's chocolate chips, but DO avoid anything that has shared equipment statement that they produce. We use Nestle or Ghiradelli chocolate chips and bake with vanilla often. It is common to become more sensitive to gluten once removed. Hope you are feeling better soon.
  5. Yes. If your test comes back positive, I would call gastroenterology and let them know you've had a positive test for Celiac Disease and would like to move your November appointment up if at all possible for two reasons: 1) your insurance expiring 2) no one should have to wait over two months to move along the Celiac Disease diagnosis process...
  6. So true....we adopted a teeny-tiny kitty five years ago...she came into the house and took over everyone. She immediately put our 75 pound dog in her place and then trained her to help with mischief when we weren't home. She converted my honey from someone whom disliked cats his entire life to her personal servant. She is still tiny, but there is no...
  7. Thanks Adalaide! I was never a fussy eater, but oh boy I could always pick out the hint of coconut in anything...when a wanted to make treats for my honey that I was certain not to touch - he got seven layer bars...hmmm haven't made those for him in awhile - I think I will, he'll be pleasantly surprised. I think I'll skip the coconut butter and...
  8. Has she been up walking? It is hard recovering from abdominal surgery, but the walking helps to get things "moving" and it will help her to feel better - laps around the unit you are in can really speed things along in many ways. Start with one lap and then try two....I've recovered twice from abdominal surgery - the first time I laid in bed, the second...
  9. Yep, there is "Sunbutter" and other brands. Many stores already carry it -- check for it near the peanut/other butters. Unfortunately I've developed severe anaphyalactic (sp?) to sunflower seeds - think I'll be scared to trial them even if I do get some other foods back. I might try coconut butter - does it have a really strong coconut flavor? Coconut...
  10. Welcome Danny! Congratulations for connecting the dots. It is unfortunate that so many of us with numerous symptoms go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for many years. I don't think I read one of your symptoms that could not possibly be linked to Celiac Disease. You should definitely get tested for Celiac Disease. Full Celiac Blood Panel: Total...
  11. Right there with you...my kid's symptoms hurt me worse than my major ones - every time. Glad you found us...keep asking questions...we have all gone through this and know how frustrating the diagnosis and tough the transition. I hope your diagnosis goes quickly. Often you can call your primary to get all the blood tests. If they come back positive...
  12. Not surprised here...I spent 8 days in the hospital and was released a few days early because I could not get gluten free meals - and this was at a major teaching hospital with a Celiac Center - yep believe it. The only thing I could eat was ensure and some frozen treat that I was nearly certain was gluten-free. I didn't even want the ensure, but it...
  13. Are you taking them before each meal? If you don't notice a difference, perhaps there are foods in your diet that are bothering you. Have you stopped taking them? If so, did you notice a difference once you stopped. I don't notice a huge difference, but there is a minor difference. They also seem to help my son with cross contamination issues...
  14. I second Freeform's HCL suggestion. Digestive enzymes before a meal and Betaine HCL after the meal help in my family.
  15. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease at 43 - I am certain I had it my entire life but was dismissed because all of my blood tests were "normal" with the exception of anemia for decades. When I removed gluten, many of my digestive symptoms improved. Unfortunately my fatigue, joint/muscle pain, fogginess (memory problems and difficulty speaking the words...
  16. Amazing the difference - I've felt over 90 more often then my real age throughout my 30s and 40s - but felt better than I did at 18 for eight whole months last year....gotta get that magic back - never knew how sick I'd been my entire life before I had that window of health - 'tis amazing what a body can tolerate before causing a real fuss
  17. Once gluten is removed getting diagnosed with Celiac becomes harder (it is not an easy process to begin with). I can think of two major reasons to get a diagnosis: 1) already mentioned: if you have children it is important for them to be tested if you have Celiac Disease. Many symptoms of Celiac go unnoticed or are simply dismissed because it's just...
  18. Welcome! Transitioning to living gluten-free is very tough, but it does get easier with time. You mentioned you had an amazing three days when you tried removing gluten which bodes well that you will be feeling much better once you remove ALL gluten - which will give you more time and energy to help ease your transition. You mentioned vitamin deficiencies...
  19. Welcome! No need to be so hard on yourself - you have acknowledged the need to learn about Celiac Disease and are now dedicated to living gluten-free. While this disease can make anyone feel much older than they are, you are still a very young adult. To me, it sounds like you are set to succeed, heal and start feeling young again. Happy healing...
  20. Happy Anniversary to you! Always great to hear stories of improvement - thank you for sharing
  21. You are right....we've had those before and so easy - great treat for those that are in the process of giving up multiple foods - I know they can be made with almond butter - I can't have either right now but thinking I need to find some coconut butter. Thanks for posting Bossley and for the substitution idea Adalaide
  22. Very true. It is extremely frustrating that testing is not precise - also one of the reasons that so many people go undiagnosed. I agree with the answers Nicole provided to your follow-up questions. Keep reading and asking questions - the learning curve and transition to gluten-free is tough, but does get much easier with time. Hang in there
  23. This is a tough call. I can't remember - you had positive celiac blood tests, right? Given the following variables: - any positive celiac blood work - improved health while living gluten-free for several months - harsh reactions to consuming gluten I would not eat gluten at all. The reason I say that in this scenario is you could ingest gluten...
  24. Hi Crissy! Finding out you have Celiac Disease and transitioning to gluten-free living is very tough - but it does get much easier and you can improve your health for the rest of your life by eating foods that are good for you -- there are plenty of yummy and not-so-good-for-you food treats that are gluten free too I remember seeing a post recently...
  25. Hello and Welcome! Many people with Celiac Disease have other autoimmune diseases and thyroid conditions. Your digestive symptoms, constipation, brain fog, fatigue and numbness can all be symptoms of Celiac. My daugther (28) was diagnosed with Lupus, RA and Fibromyalgia during her early teens. When I was diagnosed three years ago she was the first...
