ARCHIVED Three Days In And First Accidental Glutening
GottaSki replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry...did not mean eat things you are obviously intolerant of. Yes, dairy can be hard for some with Celiac Disease to process as can a lot of other things...if you remove too many items during the first weeks and sometimes months gluten-free you may be removing nutritious foods needlessly. As time passes if there is not improvement...certainly one... -
ARCHIVED Three Days In And First Accidental Glutening
GottaSki replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I vote for the colander...it was one of the first things to get me. In my opinion it is way to early to be considering other intolerance. You had some improvement during your first three days which is fantastic....focus on that if you can....accidents will happen in the early days and heck they can happen anytime, but will become rare as you master living... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Again
GottaSki replied to amitaitos's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You were not diagnosed again...once you have Celiac Disease you have it for life -- that your tTG has dropped significantly in four months means you are on the right track. It can take time for the tTG, EMA and DGP to all get back to normal. Were there more results from the first panel? EMA or DGP The second panel with positive EMA doesn't mean... -

Make 'em - enjoy - you are healthy and that doesn't mean plump. I think I'll make a batch too...Mom loves lemon and the rest of the family is more than a bit fond of these now. I am on a spiralizer roll....on a very limited diet trying to gain strength back....finally used the small blade I use for Znoodles on Sweet Potato...fried them up in Coconut... -

Really great point. All of my hormone levels were very low -- with the exception of TSH...which was "normal" but far too high for me. Now that everything has started functioning a bit better...all my hormones that were close to nil are rising and my TSH has decreased...I think I am finally close to appropriate levels for me. -
ARCHIVED De-Glutening The Kitchen
GottaSki replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep...most say toss wood cutting boards and utensils....we did not as we had custom boards built by my hubby many moons ago and utensils crafted by our nephew...we/he sanded...then I washed them within an inch of their lives...then we re-oiled them....never had an issue. Use your best judgement or ask if you have other concerns. Colanders, NonStick... -

ARCHIVED Smoking Marijuana Seems To Gives Me All The Gluten Symptoms
GottaSki replied to Renegade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just a thought....if I am remembering correctly you have been gluten-free for a month or two. Perhaps your body is reacting differently to marijuana than it had in the past? There is a strong connection between the brain and the gut...would not surprise me if your tolerance to pot changes just as many have a change in the amount of alcohol or different... -

ARCHIVED How Long Challange Is Recomended Before Biopsi?
GottaSki replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree...hope the scope provides the proof the doctor is looking for...do be sure to talk to him/her about the level of discomfort from ingesting gluten. -
I agree with Irish...very pretty girl...ask her if you are stupid. I'd vote for you are too clever to be stupid...just need to hard wire that "I want gluten switch" to the off position -- just a little does hurt -- so stop it -- thanks for the clever thread thanks for the giggle

ARCHIVED Need Advice, Please!
GottaSki replied to Niks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the longer history. Her extremely low B12 at three months gluten free indicates she was not yet absorbing nutrients. The low Adrenal and Thyroid numbers also indicate that her system had not begun functioning normally. I disagree with the GI telling her it could not be another intolerance. Many with Celiac Disease have to remove other... -
ARCHIVED How Long Challange Is Recomended Before Biopsi?
GottaSki replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello! The recommendations from the US Celiac Centers are between 6-12 weeks of at least a slice or two of glutenous bread. Perhaps trying to eat toast or a grilled cheese (if you can tolerate dairy) late in the day -- sometimes this helps get folks thru the challenge. I agree with Jay...there are many reasons to have a proper diagnosis if possible... -
ARCHIVED Tomato/tomato Sauce Alternative?
GottaSki replied to Renegade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is not accurate. Many brands of commercial pasta sauce are gluten free as is most tomato paste. The reason I say most tomato paste as there was a confusing can of tomato paste awhile back that contained spices and gluten with a label nearly identical to the plain tomato paste. It is always wise to check the ingredients each time you purchase..... -

Hi Dee Ho...well that is a bit cheerier than I am....have had a flare from hell this week...thought I was glutened...but can't pinpoint that and haven't had a flare like this since the 7 month jobbie last year. Gluten usually just gets me for three days....so the mystery of me continues....Hormone Cream, Antihistamines and Magical Bath along with a few other... -

Welcome Niks! You already responded to me first thought -- accidental gluten getting in. How about her medications...have you checked with their manufacturers to assure they are gluten free....pharmacies often switch generics -- this happened to my daughter again just last year and we had been gluten-free for a very long time. I second using a food... -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea In The Middle Of The Night?
GottaSki replied to LisaaaNoel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Yes, your symptoms could be Celiac Disease. I had abdominal bloating without gas for years and we all have variations of diarrhea or constipation -- some quite serious. Also of note is Celiac Disease can prevent the production of the enzymes necessary to process dairy. You mentioned your blood tests were negative. Do you know if your doctor... -
I firmly believe un-diagnosed Celiac Disease caused all of the symptoms I was told are Fibromyalgia. Celiac Disease destroys the ability to properly absorb nutrients, our bodies make do with what they can until different systems eventually fail. I have lived thru the excruciating "Fibro" pain you describe as has my daughter. I could never tolerate any...

ARCHIVED Tomato/tomato Sauce Alternative?
GottaSki replied to Renegade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just cook carrots then throw in the blender with onion, garlic, salt and pepper...sometimes I use ginger instead of garlic. I got the idea while eating mostly soups for a period to give my gut a break....try googling carrot or carrot cream soups for more exact recipes. Oh I also make Basil or Cilantro "pesto" with almonds...I cant eat pasta right now...
